FRANCIS’S PROJECTWhere he wants to lead the Church

CONTENT Mons. Fernández, a close friend and advisor of Pope Francis since his years in Buenos Aires, engages in a dialogue with journalist Paolo Rodari over the ‘re-volution’ the Argentine Pope is bringing to the Chur-ch: before principles comes the announcement of the Gospel. In Francis’ project, the Church has to explain the joy of the Gospel, showing how mercy is the core of the Christian announcement. According to Fer-nández, Pope Francis intends to shake the Church, to push her out of the boundaries of her privileges, in order to be able to reach all people, especially the last ones: because the Church needs to be poor and for the poor.

EXPLAINING JESUSWord – Communion - Mission

CONTENT In this book, Cardinal Tagle addresses three funda-mental dimentions related to the Christian experience: the Word of God, often more «annunciated» by the poorest people than by biblical scholars; the com-munitarian dimension, that fi nds in the Virgin Mary its most eloquent symbol; and the mission to the people of Asia, a continent with a relatively small number of believers in the Catholic faith.Through a narrative style, the author elegantly sythe-sizes his theological refl exions with his life of pastor amongst his community.

THE CHRISTIAN FAITH AT THE TIME OF

SOCIAL NETWORKS

CONTENT A short guide on the relationship between Christianity and social networks. According the Author, one of the «guru» of social media communication in the world, internet is not a secluded place, separated from our daily lives; rather, it is an integral part of it. AUTHORAntonio Spadaro, a Jesuit, is the editor-in-chief of La Ci-viltà Cattolica, the Italian Jesuit journal. He is also a con-sultant for the Pontifi cal Council for Culture and the Pon-tifi cal Council for Social Communications. He teaches at the Pontifi cal Gregorian University. His books have been translated into several languages around the world.

FREE THE EARTH For an Eco-Theology of Tomorrow

CONTENT Global warming, pollution of the earth, economic exploitation…Today more than ever our planet is on the brink of disappearing due to an economic model that savages and destroys environmental balances. In this small but dense book, the Author, one of the most important theologians in the world, elaborates his new concept of «eco-theology of liberation». Based on a new relationship between humanity and nature, this new bond will fi nd its roots in the respect of the envi-ronment rather than on its dominance.

AUTHORLeonardo Boff , Brazilian, is one of the most important representative of the theology of liberation. In recent years, he has broadened the scope of his theological refl ection to the theology of earth. He is the author of more than six-ty books in the areas of Theology, Spirituality, Philosophy, Anthropology and Mysticism. Most of his works have been translated into the main modern languages.

NO DEVELOPMENT WITHOUT ETHICS

CONTENT We are in a deep crisis, but everybody talks about growth. «We are yet to learn our lesson», writes the author, according to whom economic growth is not at all a synonym for world development.Human development and the growth of the national GDP are two entirely diff erent things, and, without ethics, there would be none of it. The author demon-strates that ethics is not a chain that hampers growth, it is a condition that makes it possible, authentic, and long-lasting for the entire world.

AUTHORÓscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, cardinal, is the Archbishop of Tegucigalpa and the president of the Hon-duras Episcopal Conference. He is the supervisor of the «Group of Nine»: the nine cardinals chosen by Pope Fran-cis to reform the Curia Romana.

THE NEW MAP OF THE GLOBAL CHURCH

Christianities: Realities and Future scenario

CONTENT By 2025, 75% of all Catholics in the world will not be European. The centres of the new global church will therefore move to Latin America, Asia and Africa. What will this entail for the new geography of Christianity? In a moment when the «roman» Pope is from «the end of the world», Jenkins analyses the changes that are happening in the global community of Catholic belie-vers. We thus discover that a new vital energy for a tired faith can come from the peripheries and that the South of the world will be the future protagonist of a renewed Pentecost.

AUTHORPhilip Jenkins is Distinguished Professor of History and Co-Director for the Program on Historical Studies of Reli-gion at Baylor University and Emeritus Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Humanities at Pennsylvania State University. Amongst his most famous publications are The Lost History of Christianity: The Thousand Year Golden Age of the Chur-ch in the Middle East, Africa and Asia - and How It Died (HarperOne, 2008), God’s Continent: Christianity, Islam and Europe’s Religious Crisis (New York: Oxford University Press, 2007) and The New Faces of Christianity (New York: Oxford University Press, 2006).

«In the 21st century, the voices of the Ca-tholic Church will be coming from Latin America, Asia and Africa» Philip Jenkins to La Repubblica

MONEY AND THE GOSPEL

CONTENT An up to date and cutting-edged reading of Luke’s Chapter 16, that probably presents some the most «economic» pages of the Gospels. In the present si-tuation of deep economic crisis, where debt plays a key role and the so-called «restructuring programs» are slowly destroying the macroeconomic system, the author lets the voice of Jesus resonate with us, calling us to decide between God and Mammon, between disgracing money and inaugurating a new era led by an economy of sharing.

AUTHORAlex Zanotelli is a Comboni missionary who carried out his work in the slums of Nairobi for many years. After retur-ning to Italy, he moved to the projects of the Sanità district in Naples, one of the poorest in the city and of the entire country. He is the leader of several civil campaigns, such as the one against the privatization of the national water system.

«Which Christianity can shake the con-sciousness of believers and non-belie-vers? The one of an authentic faith, says Schönborn» Il Sole 24 Ore

Christoph Schönborn

CHRIST IN EUROPE. A PROLIFIC

STRANGENESS

CONTENT The Cardinal of Wien identifi es a paradoxical relation-ship between Europe and Christianity: the Old Con-tinent has less and less believers but, at the same time, Christians are asked to be more faithful to the Gospels. Christianity can off er Europe a true and real freedom, and, in turn, it can listen to secular culture and to its call for credibility, one of the most rpessing issues of today’s world.

AUTHORChristoph Schönborn has been the archbishop of Wien since 1995. He is one of the most renown and respected cardinals in the world. He has coordinated the prepara-tion of the Catechism of the Catholic Church with the then Cardinal Ratzinger.

CAPE OF GOOD HOPEThe Africa you do not expect

CONTENT In Africa there is plenty of «good news», although it often goes unreported. We still cling to the old stere-otypes of famine, violence, war and death. This book challenges these vision of Africa by gathering only sto-ries of success narrated through the words of its pro-tagonists - men and women from across Africa who have excelled in business, innovation, technology, li-terature and much more. We thus meet four Nigerian schoolgirls who invented the engine that uses urine as a source of power; the fi rst course for women imam in Mauritania that combats religious extremist; the story of Natnael Berhane, an Eritrean cyclist who fl ed from the military dictatorship of his country to become one of the most promising bicycle racers in the world. Thanks to Nganguè, we look at Africa from a diff erent perspective, one that is full of «afroptimism».

AUTHOREyoum Nganguè is a Cameroonian journalist and anthro-pologist who now lives in exile in Paris. During the 1990s in his native Cameroon, he founded the satirical magazine Le Messager-Popoli that caused his arrest and imprison-ment for the corruption scandals it exposed. He is also one of the founders of the Journalistes Africains en Exile association. He currently works as an editor for the French magazine Pelerin.
