Virtual Exchange at Coventry

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is the term that we

use at Coventry University to refer to ‘virtual mobility’ experiences that

are incorporated into the formal curriculum. COIL projects are:

▪ Specifically designed to use Internet-based tools

▪ To link students from geographically distant locations and different

cultural backgrounds, perspectives and experiences

▪ So they may engage in meaningful discipline-specific exchanges

aimed at developing digital and intercultural skills

Intrinsic motivation

experiencing foreign travel (food, sights, sounds, smells).

Extrinsic motivation

Realisation that intercultural competence can lead to greater success.

The degree to which you are confident you can interact appropriately in intercultural

situations (building bridges).
