Building up God’s kingdom In today’s Gospel (Mk 4:26-34) Jesus compares the Kingdom God to a small mustard seed. It is a small seed but when it is sown in the ground, it springs up and becomes a huge plant and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade. Please note that the large plant does not happen all of a sudden in the field. We cannot expect a miracle to happen in the field but it is a process which involves human initiative. So also with the

Kingdom of God. What is the Kingdom of God? Jesus says in Lk 17:20-21, “The Kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed…in fact, the kingdom of God is among you.” We usually imagine that the Kingdom of God is something like a place or thing which can be found somewhere in the air or on above. But Jesus is not teaching that kind of kingdom here, which is ‘not yet’ that would come only at the end of the world. But the kingdom that Jesus is talking about in today’s Gospel which is ‘already here on earth’. In reality the Kingdom of God is the reign of God and letting our lives be guided by the Spirit. St. Paul in his letter to Romans 14:17 says, “The kingdom of God is . . . righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom 14:17). And such a life of God’s reign is not given to us as completely developed but as a potential seed. And we the disciples of Jesus have to sow the seeds of God’s Kingdom and let God bring about its growth and fruit. The seeds of God’s kingdom are, of course, love, joy, peace, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, justice, righteousness, humility and so on. We need to first plant these heavenly seeds in our hearts, families, communities and wherever we are, and wait faithfully for the growth of God’s Kingdom among us. No wonder, what so ever the size of the seed is, small or insignificant, when we plant them with faith, then God himself will bring about its growth and fruit. The world will rejoice in the shadow of God’s kingdom. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Fr. Edison

God in the Bedroom Part 8: 50 Years of Humana Vitae Prophecy 3 Continued

In his third prophetic declaration, Blessed Pope Paul VI

warned that government entities would impose contraception on its citizens. This declaration has been realized in foreign

policy in which countries receiving foreign aid are required to receive and promote contraception (birth control pills, con-

doms, etc.) to their citizens. Further, in the United States, the Affordable Healthcare Act, “Obamacare,” required that all insurance policies include contraceptive coverages regardless

of religious beliefs.

As Christians, we are called to evangelize the faith. Your donation to the 2018 Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal will confirm your desire to

extend the beauty and treasures of our faith throughout northern Colorado. Please make sacrifice the measure of your gift. You can make your gift at archden.org/donate.

Thank you.
