Welcome, Kia Ora, Talofa, Kumusta, Mālō ni What a special way to begin our school week, with our Blessing Ceremony! Mackenzie gave an explanation of the different cultures represented in the designs for each of our school Virtues panels. Through the planning process Mackenzie and Amber investigated many different

cultures’ art and learnt that all cultures have similar shapes and features present in their art designs. Our VIRTUES PANELS emphasise how our Catholic Faith and the wonderful cultures of our families at OLR link as one. I would like to once again acknowledge the Catholic Wellington Archdiocese in the refurbishment of Rooms 1 and 8.

Over the last couple of days I have been fortunate to spend time in classrooms learning alongside our children. I am always so impressed with our students engagement and their willingness to share with me what they are learning about. We have so many positive learning experiences and talents of our students to share .

BASKETBALL - With the up-coming arrival of our basketball hoops and netball hoops we encourage students to sign up for basketball and miniball. The hoops will provide opportunities for students to practise during school time.

PLAYGROUNDS - On behalf of the Playground team we encourage you over the next weeks to take your children to a range of park and school playgrounds within the Wellington region. We will be surveying students and our community to gain feedback of what you consider are important features for the development of our new adventure playground.

Early Arrivals - Earlier this term we mentioned students arrival time at school. Could you please ensure your child/ren do not arrive before 8.20am. We are going to be sending letters home to families where we see repeated early arrivals. We have a before school care service to support families in the morning and afternoon.

EVACUATION PRACTICE AFTERNOON - TUESDAY 4th APRIL 2-2.25pm We have a practice Evacuation day planned for TUESDAY 4th APRIL. On this date students and staff will leave the school grounds and walk to Our Lady of the Rosary Church at 1.30pm. We will require students to be collected from the Church from 2.00pm to 2.25pm. The purpose of this is to identify any factors we as a school will need to refine in the event of an emergency in the future. IF you are NOT able to collect your child/ren at the time and from this venue, staff will return to school with your child for their usual afternoon collection. You are required to complete the Signmee Response Form to indicate the arrangements you have for your child/ren for this afternoon. The Signmee Response Form was emailed last Wednesday.

World Of Waste - On Thursday the 15th of

March Mr J took some of the enviroschool members on a trip to learn about World Of Waste. First we took a bus to the Dowse where we met Jodie. Jodie explained how the Maori in the valley used flax to make ropes and nets. After Morning Tea we took the bus to the Silverstream landfill and Jonas from the Council explained how in 10 years the landfill will be full and we won’t have a place to put our rubbish. Then after a photo or 2 we were back on the bus to Waste Management. At Waste Management Aldy took us on a tour of the place and explained how they sorted cardboard out into different types and put them into bundles so they can be sent back up to Auckland to make more cardboard. Overall it was an amazing day and I would gladly do it again. Noah Yr 7
