Notes from the Office:
Attention Parents/ Visitors of Elm Street Asking all visitors who are entering Elm Street during O’Canada to take a moment, remove their hats and stand at attention
until both our anthem is over and announcements have been
read. Thank you for being a part of our team as we lead by example for our children.
Character Traits:
Last month's character trait was determination, and this month's character trait is cooperation. Ask your child how they
can practice this trait both at home and at school.

Other News: Terry Fox Donation:
Many thanks are extended to the Perry family for their donation to Elm Street’s Terry Fox Walk. This donation was made
in memory of Christopher Perry, a former Elm Street Eagle. Elm Street staff and students had a Hat Day and raised $462
for the Terry Fox Foundation
Scholastic Book Fair:
The first scholastic book fair will be held in the library from
November 10th to 17th.
Nov 10th - Preview day
Nov 14 and 15 - Hours 8:30 to 10:00 and 1:00 to 4:00
Nov 16 - Hours 8:30 to 10:00 and 1:00 to 7:30
Nov 17 - Hours 8:30 to 12:00
This is a great chance to purchase books to expand your home
library and maybe do some Christmas shopping. Students will be bringing home a flyer with the hours of operations as the date gets
closer.
Library News:
All students have been to the library and are enjoying all the books we have to offer. Ask your child what they are selecting and reading. The more interest you show in their reading, the more pride they will take in it.
Music News:
From now until the Christmas concert four musical groups will be starting
their rehearsals. Starting during the week of Sept. 25th to the 29th, the
Grades 4, 5, & 6 Girls’ Choir and the Boys in Black (Grades 4, 5, & 6 boys)
will be beginning.
These students will be working on material for our annual Remembrance
Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 7th. Students from Grade 5 and 6
who are already participating in either the girls’ choir or the boys’ group
will be able to participate in the hand-bell choir as well. The Grades 1, 2, &
3 Primary Choir will be starting around the second week of October. All of
these groups will perform during our annual Christmas concert (Friday, December 15th). During this concert only students
in Grades Kindergarten, Grades 2, 4, & 6 will perform. Those students who belong to a “Split” grade will participate in
whatever their class number is (even numbers perform at Christmas, while the odd numbers perform in June). Students
who are in Grades 1, 3, & 5 will perform during our June concert along with our performing groups. All groups practice
during various morning and lunch time recesses throughout the year.
Grade 3A & 3B:
Grade 3 is off to a wonderful start this year! Everyone has settled back into school routines, adjusted to new classmates,
teachers and we ALL enjoyed the summer September weather! This being said, with the arrival of October, we are now
feeling the crisp, cool autumn mornings and evenings! Brrrr! Please keep this in mind when sending children to school.
Outdoor recesses can be chilly!
I am excited to share some events that have happened already in Grade 3.
Both Grades 3A and 3B had the opportunity to visit, explore and experience
two Island farms in celebration of Open Farm Day on Prince Edward Island.
One involved cattle, chickens and sheep, while the other was a large dairy
farm. For some of our students, it was the very first time they've had the
chance to visit an Island farm. In addition to this, the field trip had a direct
curricular link with our Science Unit: Agriculture.
Also, many thanks to O’Leary’s Hockeyville Committee for providing practice tickets at the
last minute to a few Elm Street classrooms. Again, for some students, this was a “once in a
lifetime” opportunity which was enjoyed by everyone!
We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
