Congratulations to Kings High School Visual Art Students Jerod
Allen, Lauren Lalli, and Sam Huber on recently earning national
recognition in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This year
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards received more than
230,000 submissions. Only 1-percent received National recogni-
tion! National Medalists are celebrated at world-famous Carne-
gie Hall in New York City on May 31.
Sam Huber, a KHS junior, was one of three students selected to receive the $1,000 Creativity & Citizenship
Scholarship. This award is given to young artists and writers who take on a topical and important theme
chosen by the Alliance and their partners at the National Constitution Center. This year students were asked
to creatively express their views on the importance of Voting. Sam said the money will go towards college.
After graduation next year he plans to study graphic design at an art school.
Jerod, a senior, was surprised to find out he was a winner. He graduates this May and plans to attend the
University of Cincinnati to study film in the CCM program this fall. Jerod and Sam are both excited to visit
New York for the ceremony.
For Lauren, also a senior, this experience has been remarkable. This is the second year in a row she has won
a Scholastic Art Award, something she never expected to happen. After graduation she plans to study social
work. She is still deciding on colleges. Congratulations everyone!

ter Department will present Stephen Sondheim’s

in the auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults, or $8 for
students and senior citizens.
When a Baker and his wife learn they’ve been cursed
with childlessness by the Witch next door, they em-
bark on a quest for the special objects required to
break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from
Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel, and Jack (the one
who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone’s wish is
granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences
of their actions return to haunt them later, with dis-
astrous results.

Congratulations to
Kings Junior High
Spanish Teacher Aaron
Bunker on being
named the Outback
Steakhouse Staff
Member of the Month
for April.
Mr. Bunker was nominated by coworker
Patty Hopperton. In her nomination
Mrs. Hopperton wrote “Aaron always
has time for ALL students and never
minds that he is interrupted several
times throughout the day because a
student loves to come talk to him. Aa-
ron is always upbeat! Kids love his class
and continue to come back and visit
him after leaving KJH.” Congratulations
Mr. Bunker!

Kings Senior Yard Signs
The time has come to take orders for the 12th annual Senior Yard Sign display! For those that may be new this year, signs are printed on both
sides, like the sample below (The actual size is 24” x 18”). Your student’s name is hand printed on the bottom of each side by parent volunteers,
stapled onto brackets. You can personally pick up your sign or have your senior bring the sign home from school. Pick up is 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 9,
in the HS Cafeteria, or seniors will bring signs home from school on May 10. We know how proud you are of your student’s accomplishment in
graduating and this is such a fun way to show it to friends, neighbors and the community in general! We truly hope to have 100 percent partici-
pation so no one will be left out. Simply complete the form from the link below and return by Friday, April 19, along with your $10 (checks made
payable to KAPP (Kings After Prom Party)). Feel free to order as many as you want!
If you are able to help with the printing of the student’s names on these signs, please complete that portion of the form
as well. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call Diane Westaway at 513-543-3371 or you may email her at
[email protected]. Thanks! (There is a $10 fee for any returned checks).

KEA Seeking Donations for Upcoming Silent Auction
Every year the Kings Education Association hosts a Banquet and Silent Auction Fundraiser to raise money for their Kings
Education Association Future Teacher Scholarship. For the last 10 years this $750 scholarship has been awarded to a Kings

The KEA still needs donations for the silent auction on May 10. The KEA is looking for donations of gift cards, experiences,
or items that can be auctioned off to Kings staff. They are also accepting talent donations (piano lessons, swim lessons, pho-
tography sessions, etc.). If you or someone you know would like to make a donation, please contact Sheridan Pagan at 398-
8050 ext. 15054 or [email protected].

Congratulations to two Kings Junior High eCYBERMISSION teams on being chosen as
state finalists for their projects!
eCYBERMISSION is a web-based Science, Technol-ogy, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) compe-tition where teams can compete for State, Region-
al and National Awards while working to solve problems in their community.
Team Black Eye (Ben Smith, Cole Swartz, and Zane Middleton) discovered that tooth decay is a prob-lem and tested to see if toothpaste protects teeth
from coke erosion.
Team Polaris123 (Bella Ehret, Tiffany Steele, and Michael Messer) wants the community to become more energy independent and tested wattage of
batteries versus solar cell. These teams researched community/local issues, came up with a problem, designed an experiment, tested it, collected data, analyzed the data, and wrote their conclusions.
These were submitted online and have been cho-sen as state finalists. We are keeping our fingers crossed that one or both of these teams will win. First place is $1,000 bond each and 2nd place is
$500 bond each.

Dear Parent, The score of the big game. The name of the girl in their English class. The clothes and hairstyles. Those are just a few of the details your student will want to remember about this school year. Help your student keep those memories sharp by buying a 2012-13 Kings High School Yearbook. For only $75 your student will have a book that will be enjoyed now, and 20, 30 or even 50 years from now. You also can make the yearbook extra special by purchasing namestamping and a protective plastic cover. It’s easy to order! Buy online at www.yearbookforever.com and enter the school name. Parents of seniors will also have the opportunity to buy a personal ad in the book. Imag-ine your son or daughter’s surprise when they open the yearbook and see their own baby photo and special message from you. Or honor the seniors of that special team, sport, or activity with a photo and message they will never forget. The last day to buy a Yearbook is April 26. Order now, so your student won’t miss out when the yearbook is distributed in the Fall of 2013. Seniors who have graduated have their books mailed home to the official address on record at Kings. As an adult, you know how important high school memories become. Don’t let your stu-dent’s memories fade; make sure they get a yearbook now! Sincerely, Kelly Shields Yearbook Adviser Kings High School
