1 . On 6 March, the FBI sent report on the i r debriefing of NOOENKO

regarding the O S W ~ of 16 March, th is report. has not. been located

in SR, although s i d that the original was carr ied up to CjSR).

This mport ment:ioned that OSWALD was taken to the "Botkinskaya Hespital•.

2. At ,about that t ime, or short.ly af te r the Agency must have sent aquery to the FBI regarding the ident i ty of the elderly Derican whom OSWALD

claimed he met in the hospi tal . The contents of th i s query are not known.

J. On 10 March, the FBI sent another report , referencing the 6 Marchreport , and indicating that p a r a g r a p ~ s thus-and-so would furnish such information as was available to them.

4. CI/,PIG i s now sending a report to the e m r ~ Commission includingthe FBI report , plus the information we gave her on the S.P.Botkina Hospital

in Moscow, as gleaned from the instal lat ions director.r for 1958 and

1962,plus the information recei-ved from a source, not ident i f ied to us, tha t an

us. GOLDEN was about 60, and may be the "elderly A m e r i c a n ~In passing, §aid that CI/piG had queried State about. the

"elde r ly American" and she had heard that a negative reply had been re -

ceived, although no one seems to be able to f ind the repl/iy a t present..

Diary . In an ent ry dated 26 October 1959, when he was

allegedly confined in an un identif ied Moscow hasp ital, there is

a reference to an e lder ly Amer ican .

The i tem in i ts entirety reads.:

An elderly Amer ican a t the hospital grew suspic ious

about me for some reason . Because a t Embassy I told

h im I had not reg is tered a s mos t tour is t and I am in

general evasive about m y presence in Moscow and a t

hospital . 11

I t is apparent that every effor t should be made to identify

the elderly Arne rican, if he existed. We have seen no re fe rence

to this detail in any rna t er ia l s thus far made available to this

Agency on the OSWALD investigation . We asswne that the lead

is st i l l outstanding. I t is our reconunendat ion that the Depar t -

the entr ies in OSWALD's His tor ica l Diary and would poss ib ly
