Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 10th annual meeting of the Egyptian ScientificSociety of Bronchology we cordially invite you to attend and share the activities of the meetingthat will take place in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in Cairo University in the periodbetween 1-3 December 2010.
This meeting is a special event as the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology celebrates tenyears of growing success and fruitful work. With your support and attendance through 9successful meetings, you have given the society momentum to move forward, and we hopethat -through attending this year’s meeting- you will benefit from the meeting and give us afurther push to keep moving forward through our second decade of collaboration.
This meeting also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of ChestDiseases in Cairo University. The first specialized Department in Pulmonary Medicine in Egyptwas founded in 1940, and led to the initiation of Chest Departments in different faculties ofMedicine throughout the country, paving the way to a whole era of research, education, anddedicated patient-oriented health care.
The meeting this year is endorsed by the ACCP and organized in collaboration with the EgyptianFellows of the American College of Chest Physician. The meeting is also accredited 13 hourson CME from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).
On this year’s agenda you will find the most interesting and hot topics in the discipline, deliveredto you in various formats: Literature review lectures, meet-the-Professor sessions, satellitesymposia, interactive sessions, and sessions for original investigations.

The Chest Department of Cairo University:The History in Brief
The late Professor Abdel Aziz Samy has started the Department as a subdivision from the Internal MedicineDepartment in 1940. The department was considered the first in the specialty in Egypt and the MiddleEast. He then was appointed head of the Department in 1950 till 1970. Conference Venue
The conference will be held at Learning Resource Center in the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. Thecenter is a state-of-the-art establishment for hosting conferences and workshops. The place contains a mainauditorium which holds more than 400 attendants, 2 main lecture rooms of 200 persons, 4 lecture roomsof 80 persons, multiple rooms for diverse activities, a fully equipped animal operating theater, as well asrooms for endoscopies and computer-based educational facilities.
Post-congress tours:Tours will be available for your leisure to explore the wonders of Egypt. Enjoy the sun on thebeach and the underwater world in Sharm El Sheikh or in Hurghada. You can also take a cruiseup the Nile between Luxor and Aswan. This is a cruise into history.
Day-tours:The pyramids, the sphinx, the citadel, and the Egyptian museum are a must-see.
Climate in Cairo:Cairo enjoys almost 365 days of sunshine. The temperature during December averages around20-22°C.
Electricity:electric current throughout Egypt is 220V. Sockets are the standard continental European round-pronged plug.
Time Zone:Egypt is GMT+2
Passport and visa:For most nationalities, tourists will be granted entry visas at the airport. For further information,please contact your travel consultant as few nationalities require pre-entry visa.
Customs:Foreign currency is allowed in and out of the country. A declaration form must be filled forvaluable objects that are brought in the country. Always declare your video camera.
Business hours:Banks are open from Sunday through Thursday from 08:30 - 17:00.Shops are open from 10:00 to 22:00.

Activities During the Conference
CME Accreditation:The meeting is accredited for 13 hours of CME from the European AccreditationCouncil for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).
CME POLICY:Participants will be accredited for the 13 hours if they show proof of attending more than 8 hoursduring the meeting. Attendants will be required to scan their badges at the entrance in the lecturerooms to obtain the allocated CME hours.
NON-CME ACTIVITIES:There are a number of non-CME activities in the form of Satellite symposia. These symposia areheld alongside the conference in hotels. Special invitations are required to attend these activities.

Opening Ceremony:The Opening Ceremony will take place in the main auditorium at the Learning Resource Center(LRC), in the faculty of Medicine on the 1st of December at 12:00. During the ceremony, Prof. ElSayed Salem will give a talk on the history of the Chest Department of the Faculty of Medicine,Cairo University. The title for the talk is: “70 years of Achievements at the Chest Department,Cairo University”. Also, a documentary will be shown narrating the history of the Department.

Press ConferenceA Press conference will be held on Wednesday 1st of December at 15:00 following the OpeningCeremony. The press conference will be discussing the issue of evolving concepts in CommunityAcquired Pneumonia, which is an issue of interest to the public. Professor Hartmut Lode, Professorof Medicine at the University of Berlin will address the public and the media on the recent advancesin the field of respiratory tract infections and the current guidelines for management.
Clinical Activity AreasThese are special areas in the conference venue, sponsored by pharmaceutical companies, aimedat increasing awareness of the attendants regarding some topics from pulmonary functions, computerskills, and performing flexible bronchoscopy. These clinical activity areas provide an opportunityto interact with the experts in the different fields and are considered as an independent educationaltool abiding to the ethical guidelines ruling the pharmaceutical companies nowadays.
Continuous Medical Education for Interns, Nurses, and Pharmacists:These are whole-day activities for interns, nurses, and pharmacists to update them about what theyneed to know about Chest Diseases in the hospital and in the outpatient setting; with special interestabout infection control, asthma, and COPD.

1- Pediatric Rigid Bronchoscopy: December 2 - 3, 2010 Fees: 1000 LE
The workshop is intended to train pediatric bronchoscopists on the details of rigid bronchoscopyfor diagnostic purposes as well as removal of aspirated foreign bodies.

3- Medical Thoracoscopy (hands-on animal lab): December 2-3, 2010 Fees: 2000 LE
Medical Thoracoscopy is the golden standard of dealing with undiagnosed pleural effusions. Thiscourse is intended to train interested Pulmonologists to the technique. Animal lab provides highquality acquaintance with the procedure.
