HISTORY OF THE COMPANYEstablished in 1971 and located in Mobile, AL, TAG/The Architects Group, Inc. is a creative and innovative design firm with a reputation of designing award-winning projects that meet the needs of our clients and community. Mobile had a number of small architectural firms, but none big enough to tackle the major projects the city was on the verge of needing. So in 1971, three small firms joined to create TAG/The Architects Group. The firm is staffed with registered, professional architects trained in all aspects of project design and management. TAG Principals Ronnie Taylor, AIA, David Barr, AIA, Daniel Borcicky, AIA and Robert Krchak, AIA have a total of over 100 years of combined architectural experience and have worked together at TAG for over two decades.

TAG has experience in performing field investigations, site surveys, on-site charettes, project programming, pre-design planning, cost estimating and scope definition. We use Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) as our primary tool to develop construction drawings. We are experienced in developing design documents as well as all supporting documents (Design Analysis). The Design Analysis document reflects our overall understand-ing of the project as well as all field data collected. In addition, our Project Managers and Construction Managers provide construction support services such as field inspections, shop drawing review, review of pay request by contractors, field or factory witnessing of testing for critical pieces of equip-ment, start-up/commissioning and as-built drawings.

Taylor-White and Calcedeaver Elementary schools are iterations of a prototype school designed by TAG. Both schools hold true to the previous prototype design with one notable addition -- they are both outfittedwithatornadoshelterswhichmeetFEMA361andInterna-tional Code Council 500 standards. The classrooms and center cor-ridor contained within the shelter have enough capacity for the entire school, which is approximately 750 students and teachers.

Both schools contain 17+ classrooms, 2 special education class-rooms, computer lab, science lab, full kitchen and dining facilities, gymnasium, nurses’ area, administration and lobby.

TAG received the Top Block Award for this project from the Alabama Concrete Industries Association and an interior design award from ASID Alabama.

The Robertsdale Elementary is a 121,000-square-foot school to replace the existing facility. It is designed with 68 classrooms to ac-commodate K-6, a gymnasium, media center, library, full kitchen and dining facilities, parking and administrative areas. This project incor-porates design and construction practices that significantly reduce the negative impact of the building on the environment and its occupants with regard to site/land planning. It also features day-lighting, high efficiency mechanical systems, and other elements to promote water efficiency at the facility.

The new school is a 2-story, $5 million dollar, 57,680-square-foot elementary schoolItconsistsof32classrooms,1sciencelaboratory,1artroom,administrative areas, library and computer center, multi-purpose areas, gymnasium, full kitchen/cafeteria, and teachers’ lounge. There is also covered walkway and pickup/drop off areas for school buses and full parking lot. The new school is built adjacent to the original, historic school which remains on the property.

The Bedsole Building design expands and renovates the entire second floor of the Student Activities Center, adding a new state-of-the-art library, main entrance while renovating portions of existing spaces for offices, classrooms, and activity areas such as, coffee shop, TV room and game room. The existing entrance was confusing and non-de-script. The new entrance is now clearly defined. Within the new library, study carrels, a media center and computer area are available, along with other new amenities including seating areas for group study, and a large classroom equipped with multimedia capabilities. In addition, the room accommodates 50 students and features optional dividers allowing two functions to take place simultaneously. The project has received an ASID Interior Design from ASID Alabama in 2008.

TAG has provided ongoing design and construction administration ser-vices to Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for Improvements at Gulf State Park. These improvements consist of new construction in addition to renovation projects. New work includes a pool house with pool and spray ground, nature center and class-room, boathouse and docks, amphitheatre with stage and interpretive displays, and recreation area with native landscaping that ties the new campus together. Renovation effort breathed a new life into the existing Campstore and Registration Building.
