Air Handling Systems

The EDPAC Air Handling products are Modular in construction with 13 frame cross sections. Air flow

capacities range from 2500m3/hr (0.7m

3/s) to 90,000m

3/hr (25m

3/s). Each system is designed and

configured to suit a specific application and includes a combination of sections to match the specific

requirements of the application. This flexibility affords us significant latitude when seeking to match a

system with the constraints of your project – whether it is a low noise application requiring reduced

velocities or a compact unit size to meet restricted

available space.

Features and Options:

 Modular frame construction comprising profiled

aluminium section complete with flanges to

accommodate sealing gaskets.

Doubleskin panels in 50mm or 25mm with plastic coated exterior and galvanised interior enclosing a

CFC free panel or rock wool liner as required. Thermal break is available with the 50mm panel

construction.

Fan options that include EC direct drive fans (that do not require any control drives), or direct drive

backward curved fans and backward curved centrifugal fans with

optional VSD.

Heat Recovery systems that can be thermal wheel, counter flow

heat exchanger or coil based.

Heating sections that can be Low Pressure Hot Water, Direct

Expansion (when coupled to a Heat Pump), gas fired (natural or

LPG) or electric.

Air Mixing utilising opposed blade dampers with appropriate edge

sealing.

Pre-piping of coils including control valves, balancing devices and

isolation valves.

Cooling sections that include coils mounted in stainless steel pans in

either chilled water or direct expansion, which can be coupled to a

chiller, heat-pump or condensing unit; cooling coils can be fitted with

droplet eliminators, if the design requires coil velocities in excess of

2.5m/s. Drain pans and coils can be removable to meet specific

requirements.

Filter options include all grades of panels, bags and HEPA with factory DOP testing as required.

Roofing sections are also available for weathering purposes in a colour to match the panels.

Attenuation is offered either within the system or as duct mounted. Selections can be made to meet

the lowest NR or PN criteria.

Humidification options include evaporative, spray or electric.

Driers or dehumidifiers can be integrated for material storage, test facilities or archives.

Controls:

The system can be supplied with or without controls as required.

We are happy to provide a system with full controls, pre-wired

and factory tested prior to shipping. The controls can be

integrated to any Building Management system available or

integrated to the facility fire alarm system, as required. Control

options include:

Remote or local mounting of the MCC panel

Factory fitting of actuators, sensors or valves

Pre-wiring of VSD’s or EC Fans and MCC panels

Control wiring / testing of Condensers or Heat-pumps

BMS interfaces to Bacnet/IP, Modbus, Trend, Cirus, SNMP

The EDPAC control strategies have been developed over several years and include all of the features and

options expected within modern Air Handling Systems.

System Design:

All selections are made using our computerised AHU selection and design software. All coils and fans are

chosen to meet the specific customer conditions and requirements using proven computerised selection

software. All these data are made available with the Operation and Maintenance data provided at

handover.

Design parameters for cooling coil systems are typically based on airflow velocities of up to 2.5m/s over

the coil face. Higher velocities will typically require the use of droplet eliminators. For heating systems

only, face velocities of 3.5 m/s can be achieved. Drawing preparation and submittal can be made available

prior to sign-off and approval. All products are designed and manufactured in Carrigaline.

Energy Saving Technologies:

EDPAC incorporates all current available energy savings technologies in our AHU’s;

these include:

High efficiency heat recovery products including thermal wheels (TWE), plate

heat exchangers (PHE) and coil to coil recovery (CTC) products. PHE systems

are selected with Plate Heat Exchanger efficiencies in excess of 50% and

pressure drops over exchanger of less than 250Pa. TWE systems are selected

with Thermal Wheel exchanger efficiencies greater than 70 % and pressure

drop across the wheel less than 200 Pa.

Free air cooling options are available and managed within our control

strategies.

Free cooling options using integrated drycooler systems or appropriate

chillers.

Use of energy efficient, brushless EC fan technology where their use permits (some high

pressure applications may limit their use).

System design to meet specific criteria for Specific Fan Powers (SPF); SPF can be lowered

significantly with prudent design incorporating low air velocities with low total pressure

management of the system design.

EC Fan technology or VSD management of fans/motors in

part load can reduce the energy consumption within the

system with energy consumption of less than 0.8W/l/sec

readily achievable.

Fan speed control can in many cases eliminate the use of

volume control dampers and the associated energy losses

across them.

Management of Specific Fan Power can be achieved using air path over sizing to reduce

power consumption through reduced system pressure – as power

consumption is a cubic relationship to fan speed, considerable

operating savings can be achieved with proper selection of the system

components and overall size.

Smart system control strategies that include free-cooling, fan

management, set-back for heating or cooling and variable air volume

control also present operating savings.
