LSA Officers It is with great pleasure that I welcome back all of you to another season of the Locksmith Security Association. As with every year, we anticipate great things happening within our Association. This will begin our 36 th year as an organization devoted to the further advancement and education of Locksmiths and Security Professionals. I am happy to report that our Immediate Past President, John Hubel, CML is recovering quite well from the health issues he faced over the summer. Thank you to all of those who expressed their concern. We are looking forward to seeing him at the September meeting. We have some new members coming “on board” who are interested in ramping up our efforts to bring about educational opportunities this year, both at general meetings and in classroom settings. One of the new members, Dillon Poprawa has agreed to take over the Secretary position for Randy Montpas, CRL. Randy lives and works in the Grand Blanc area and has had difficulty attending all of our meetings. I want to Thank you Randy, for your past commitment and welcome Dillon, for your future assistance in taking the monthly minutes. Congratulations are in order to our editor and in-house ALOA Ace instructor, Bill Lynk, CML, CPS. Bill has been elected as the ALOA North Central Director . He taught classes this past summer at the convention in Baltimore, Maryland. Bill taught three classes as an ACE instructor; Small Format IC, Large Format IC and High Security Cylinder Servicing. He also received the Keynotes "Author of the Year Award" We must consider ourselves very fortunate to have Bill as a member of our organiza- tion. Hel has donated enormous amounts of his time to better our organization and I want to recognize him at this time. Thank you Bill for all you do! Although no date has been set, I have been in touch with Gale Johnson, editor of the Locksmith Ledger International (and friend of LSA). Gale is planning to visit us in the near future and is trying to bring another special guest with him. I hope to have more details next month. Over the summer we had a board meeting that was open to all members. We had some good discussion regarding the future of LSA and some of the possible changes in meeting format that we would like to see. Our goals are to make the meetings more appealing, interesting and informative. If you have suggestions, I would welcome them. We now offer discounted membership fees if you pay your dues in advance. The discounts apply on two and three year memberships. We also now accept major credit cards for payment of dues and classes. As always, we are seeking volunteers within our association for help. We can always use assistance with Leadership, Educa- tion, Newsletter submissions, Presentations , Recruitment and Social gatherings. I look forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting. “2013 AND BEYOND - DUES ALERT ”—BY AL MOEBUS, CPL

As we start another fiscal year of LSA I want to emphasize that we have another way of payment for dues. Besides paying by cash, check or money order, members can now pay by credit card at any

meeting. This is done through Ray Sinai, CML, John Hubel,

CML or others (to be determined). Speaking of John, he is doing very well at this time and is planning to make short presentations at future meetings. He is also very thankful to all LSA, MMLA, ALOA and Clearstar personnel who have encouraged him dur-ing his recent recovery period. The other procedure in place, according to a by-law amendment, is the

cost per year. One year membership is $60 but if you pay for 2 years the total

is $110 and for 3 years it would be $160. As always, paying dues in a timely

manner keeps our association strong.

LOOKING BACK INTO THE LOCKING PAST…RETRO #29

To follow is another page from the now defunct Locksmithing Institute of New Jersey Home Study Locksmith-

ing Course, started by the late Leonard Singer (Master Keying Expert). The program went out of business in the early 1980s. This lesson excerpt is circa 1973 . Some illustrious graduates who are LSA members include: Ray

Sinai, Theo Schultz, Dan Meggison, Nick Palise, Tom Lewis and William Lynk, as well as the notable Billy

B. Edwards and inventor John Ulaszek.
