Beginnings are always exciting, and especially when they mark the birth of a venture with unlimited value. Can one imagine a goal that is more valuable than JARMAC’s mission: to promote under- standing and solutions to real-world problems, and to do so with innovative scientific methodology? JARMAC’s goal is to explore the full range of real-world activ- ities that lend themselves to cognitive understanding: education, the military and national security, legal proceedings and investi- gations, industry and business, athletics, health and psychological well-being, spatial awareness and way-faring, communication, economic transaction, daily functioning and planning, develop- ment and aging...and a host of others. In short, we welcome high-quality research on any aspect of human behavior that is open to cognitive analysis. JARMAC encourages and will give priority to innovative research that (a) examines societally important concerns, (b) uncovers new areas not yet examined, and (c) develops novel methods and solu- tions to existing problems. We are also receptive to theoretical research that can be directed toward applied problems, but the author is then obligated to establish clearly the connection to real- world application. Conversely, we discourage submissions that make minimal parametric variations on well established principles and phenomena. Ultimately, our goal is to populate JARMAC’s pages with research that, through sheer brilliance, overcomes Mother Nature’s efforts to hide her secrets and protect the status quo. The ideal JARMAC article should leave researchers intellectually and aesthetically enriched, and should offer practitioners and end- users of our research new insights to understand and solve their real-world problems. Some potential authors may have concerns about submitting articles to a new journal. One look at our editorial board, hand- picked to include the leaders in our research community, should assure authors that their submissions will receive thorough and insightful reviews, and that their JARMAC publications will have the stamp of approval of the most respected scientists. We look forward to expanding the frontiers of knowledge, and to applying our talents to understand and to improve the world we inhabit. Is there a better reason to be born?
