DEACON OF THE MONTH

Richard Campbell

Our deacon of the month for February is Richard Campbell. Richard grew up in Givhans, SC while his wife Maxine grew up in Lancaster, SC. Richard and Maxine found

the perfect lot to build a house on Palmetto Road more than 20 years ago. They completed their house 10 years ago when they retired. Richard owned his own electrical

engineering firm and Maxine worked as a data architect in the Cable TV and Satellite industry. Richard and Maxine were drawn to Edisto Beach Baptist by the friendly caring

church members. Richard's retirement job is fishing guide. In addition to serving as Deacon, Richard serves on the Building & Grounds committee. Maxine sings in the choir

and serves on the Personnel & Wednesday Night supper committees

MISSIONS MOMENT

THE COMMISSION CHRISTIAN

God calls every Christian to be a great Commission Christian.

Let’s go...to the Nations in prayer. That could mean going right here on Edisto...in our neighborhoods.

Edisto Beach Baptist is an excellent witness in how we serve and love our neighbors

on this island. Let’s carry our Commission a step further and pray individually for those neighbors living close to each of us.

How might you do this? One way is by joining a website called

pray4everyhome.com. Check it out!

BLESS YOU FOR LOVING AND CARING FOR YOUR NEIGHBORS.

Gail

In an effort to help us all be "in the know" we wanted you to know all the ways you can find out information about what's happening at EBBC. Just in case you've missed one of these, you can:

READ IT - Each Sunday we hand out worship packets as people arrive for worship, these include calendar and promotional items we are highlighting. We also have the latest monthly newsletter available at the welcome center the first couple of weeks each month.

Hear it - On Wednesdays at 6:30 pm and Sunday mornings at 10:00 am we always highlight a few of the upcoming times on our church calendar as well as other items of corporate interest.

View it - The EBBC website can be found at www.edistobeachbaptist.org Here you will find all of the above mentioned print items in digital form as well as a plethora of additional items such as pictures, audio recordings and fun facts.

Write it - We are always looking for interesting articles and information

about what's happening in and through our fellowship so you could craft an item, pass it along and if accepted, read it again when it get's published in the newsletter or on the Website!

SHARE IT - After you have heard or read or viewed any current information about "what's happening at EBBC" you become a new and refreshing source of information to those you talk to, email, Text, Snapchat, Tweet, Ping, Jabber, Viber or What'sapp. Cool huh?

Experience it - Of course the most satisfying way of being "in the know" comes from "getting to know" others who are a part of this EBBC faith family. Finding out what's happening is only a tool that serves to let us know each other better and share together in the great calling God has for our lives together.

Let's Communicate!

The Good News Club @ JEES continues to go very well on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm. Please continue to pray for our teachers and the students we want to see come as we share the Good News with these children! We have 15 students on the roster and ask for prayers for more regular attendance, better Bible verse memorization & that the children will involve someone from home to help them complete their worksheets. Our prayer is for those helping to be blessed as well as these children. Blessings, GNC Leadership

NURSERY ROTATION

Would you like to participate in the list of nursery volunteers who rotate on a regular schedule to cover EBBC’s nursery? Are you interested in or do you know someone who is interested in working in the nursery? Call the church office or contact Vicki Heath at & we’ll get you on board.

The Youth continue meeting on Sundays, from 5:00—7:00 pm. February meetings will all be held at the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island. Come and bring a friend! Contact Michael Heath at 702-690-8959 for more information.

Movie Night at Edisto Beach Baptist Church

Operation Christmas Child

The Missions Committee would like to share that EBBC will be collecting throughout 2017 for our shoeboxes. Gail will send little blurbs occasionally that will alert you to deals. Be on the lookout for seasonal closeouts at CVS, Michaels, Family Dollar, etc. The items may be holiday toys, plastic cups, socks, anything you could spend a dollar or two on. As you collect items, please place them in the

red bin located in Classroom 102. And remember…no dated items like toothpaste or candy.

EBBC CHURCH-WIDE CLEAN UP The Building & Grounds Committee has scheduled some dates to conduct a few organizing projects and also some cleaning & sprucing up before Easter. If you would like to help, please put these dates in your calendar:

March 17—March 25—The B & G committee with the EICC committee plan to clear both choir entries, organize/purge items & then replace them in an organized & useful manner. For example, we will hang the music stands & mics &

put all the EICC music together.

April 1st—Come bring your areas of cleaning expertise & join in the fun & fellowship as we do some Spring cleaning to prepare our beloved church building & grounds for the Easter season! We will also include the Retreat. Look for more information about these projects in next month’s newsletter.

VALENTINE GREETINGS

YOUTH NEWS

In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the UK, France and Australia. In Great Britain, Valentine’s Day began to be popularly celebrated around the 17th century. By the middle of the 18th, it was common for friends and lovers of all social classes to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes, and by 1900 printed cards began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology. Ready-made cards were an easy way for people to express their emotions in a time when direct expression of one’s feelings was discouraged. Cheaper postage rates also contributed to an increase in the popularity of sending Valentine’s Day greetings.

Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s. In the 1840s, Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass-produced valentines in America. Howland, known as the “Mother of the Valentine,” made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as “scrap.” Today, according to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. Happy Valentine’s Day!
