David Brown was founded in 1860 in Huddersfield,
UK and after diversifying quickly from pattern making
through general engineering and machine cut geared
systems to tractors and sports cars, David Brown had
begun to manufacture centrifugal pump systems by
1960. Three years after becoming a public company
in 1993, David Brown acquired US manufacturer Union
Pump based in Battle Creek (itself founded in 1884).
Five years later the David Brown Union company was
acquired by Textron who then swiftly bought Pompes
Guinard based in Annecy, France (founded in 1919),
uniting the whole group under the ‘Union’ brand name.
After a £368m acquisition in 2008 by Clyde Blowers
Capital, ‘Union’ became a part of the newly formed
ClydeUnion Pumps group.
Penistone Site History
has been manufacturing for over half a century and the
site has continued to adapt to the needs of our global
customer base. This site provides centrifugal pumps for
all of our business sectors but specialises in products
for the downstream oil, gas, water and conventional
power generation industries.
