TALK BY PALEONTOLOGIST - FASCINATING FOSSILS

On 2nd November 2016, the Grade 8 History and Archeology buffs of our School (both girls and boys) were in for a visual treat and also some food for thought as a talk was organized for them in the School Auditorium by Mr. Nirmal Rajah, Fossil Hunter and Educational Co-ordinator, Mleiha Archeological Centre, Sharjah, U.A.E.

Mr. Rajah, a passionate Palaeontology enthusiast, has been collecting and studying fossils for more than a decade. He strongly believes that the study of fossils can unravel a world of wonder and learning for young, eager minds. In 2015, Nirmal led an expedition to discover fossils in Ariyalur district in Tamil Nadu, India which was later released as the aptly titled documentary ‘Unearthing the Treasures of Ariyalur’.

The talk about fossils gave our students a brief glimpse into the history of life on planet earth. Mr. Rajah lucidly explained why it is important to learn about the past and how this knowledge can help us in the future thus whetting the appetite for more knowledge amongst our ever curious and enthusiastic students. The vignettes of the eons past (his very own personal collection) on display, especially the ones in our very own neighbouring Emirate of Mleiha in Sharjah, caught the fancy of our students and there seemed to be no end to the barrage of questions posed to Mr. Nirmal.

As it was a truly memorable and insightful session, our School plans toorganise a field trip for our students under the able guidance of Mr.Nirmal Rajah in the near future.
