TECHNICAL BRIEFS

GeoPlas - a multifunctional additive

GeoPlas is a naturally-occurring black polymer described as an asphaltite. It is unique in hardness, polymer composition, purity and consistency. It is said that its compatibility with most common thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, oils and solvents makes it a valuable ingredient for use in many polymer/composite applications.

When GeoPlas GP powder is dissolved in solvent, the resultant solutions are sometimes referred to as GeoPlas cutbacks. These solutions are claimed to form an excellent base for blending with other materials such as resins, protective coatings, paints and mastics. GeoPlas can also be hot fluxed (melted) to form a base which can then be cut back with solvents and fillers to meet various product requirements such as curing time, drying time, gloss and hardness.
