While other factors, such as proximity to surrounding buildings, your unit’s layout, and the size of the windows, can all come into play, understanding the basics to window direction can help you find the best apartment for your lifestyle. NORTH: North-facing windows get very little direct light, thanks to the orientation of the sun and our position in the northern hemisphere. While this might not be great news for early birds and indoor gardeners, it does have its upsides. If you’re renting an older unit with no air conditioning, you’ll find it much easier to keep cool in the summer if there’s less sunlight streaming in. Night-shift workers might be more likely to get in a good sleep during the day (although heavy drapes will still help).
EAST: Find it hard to get up in the morning? An east facing bedroom window might help fix that. Your room will brighten with the sunrise, and it’s almost impossible to ignore its bright rays on your face. Great for maintaining a regular circadian rhythm, some gentle warmth in the morning, and finicky plants that need light but can’t handle sustained heat. SOUTH: There’s a reason why solar panels are often installed facing south. South-facing windows pick up lots of consistent and sustained light throughout the whole day. This can provide energy efficiency in the winter, but pose more of a challenge in the summer. Still, an abundance of natural light can be a big selling point, and correspondingly, south-facing windows are popular with many people.

Here a re a few tips to help you avoid finding damaged items at your destination:
1. Consider purchasing boxes from your mover. The most common packing mistake we see is people getting free boxes at the grocery or liquor store and then putting too much weight in them. For example, using a large box to pack books and magazines may make it too heavy to lift, and the box might break during the move due to the weight.

Here a re a few tips to help you avoid finding damaged items at your destination:

than trying to move a customer’s belongings while they are attempting to shove items into boxes and we get in each others’ way.
This also interferes with the optimal loading of the moving truck. We have a loading system where the first things we place in the truck are light items such as chairs, lampshades, cushions, etc; we place these items in the ‘attic’ (the area over the cab) of the truck. We can get lots of light items up there and they stay secure.
Next, we create a ‘box wall’ stacked to the ceiling to hold the items in the attic in place. We then stand plastic wrapped mattresses against the box wall and secure everything with tie-off straps to keep belongings from getting jostled during the move. If you’re not completely packed and ready on moving day, we can’t create that box wall early on and, this decreases the capacity of the items that can be moved at one time. It also eats up precious time and, therefore, money!
4. Think ahead. Begin packing items you don’t use daily. As you pack your boxes move them to the front of your apartment and stack them along a wall near the front door. Say it takes 2.5 minutes, on average, to move a box from an upper bedroom to the truck. Having it on the main floor can shave 45 seconds off the time for each box. Saving 45 seconds multiplied by 200 boxes can save lots of time and money.
5. Consider having your moving company pack for you. We are skilled, have more experience and have standard-size small, medium and large boxes that are designed to fit into our trucks to create a perfect box wall for optimum efficiency and safety.
So, when it comes to moving, forethought goes a long way. Because your belongings mean a lot to you, take extra care when packing so that they arrive at your destination safely.

THE THOUGHT OF A VACATION ALWAYS SOUNDS RELAXING, until you actually have to plan for it. That’s when you realize you have about five thousand different things to worry about before your feet hit the sand and that mojito finally makes it into your hands. I’m talking about those little details you worry about that can ruing a trip. Like the possibility of losing your passport at the last possible moment, wondering if you actually locked the back door of your home and the thought of forgetting to ask your parents to feed the cat. Then there’s the anxiety that comes with actually leaving your
home behind. Those four walls hold all your worldly positions
so it’s kind of normal that it’s totally a big deal.
Still, summer has arrived and you have earned a vacation.
Don’t let fear stand between you and the perfect sun tan. Just
follow these simple steps to rest assured and have your rental
still standing for your homecoming.
LEAVE YOUR HOME KEY WITH SOMEONE YOU TRUST
This is one of those moments where you realize how valuable
a good friendship with your neighbours can be. If you’re living
in a secure building, you shouldn’t really be letting your friends
come and go while you are away and it’s just easier to have
someone as close as next door to check on your place. If you’re
comfortable with it, tell your neighbour the details of your trip
and give them access to your home in case of any emergencies.
In fact, your insurance may require your home to be checked
in on with some regularity to keep your policy valid. You don’t
want to come home after three weeks and find that you left
the water running the whole time, having turned your den into
a swamp.
TELL YOUR LANDLORD
In your lease agreement there may be information about
vacation procedure (check it!). Either way, let your landlord
know if you will be away in case they may try to get in
touch with you to plan repairs or any other emergencies. In
fact, if there is a need for repairs or maintenance that would
otherwise interrupt your happy lifestyle, this would be a perfect
time for management to perform the work.
CLEAN YOUR RENTAL
Cleaning your rental seems pretty obvious, but it requires a
bit more attention before you leave on vacation. Don’t fool
yourself in believing that leaving a couple of dirty dishes on
the counter won’t make a difference. It will!
Do a thorough cleaning such as clean out your fridge of any
perishables that wont be good once you come back home.
Most importantly, make sure you take out the trash. You don’t
want to come home to any surprising odours.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT YOUR DOG/CAT
If you’re not bringing your furry companion with you, plan to
have someone take care of them. It’s a big responsibility and
you wouldn’t leave them with just anyone. Don’t leave this
important detail to the last second.
DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING
To really ensure you won’t be worrying about your home while
on the beach, double check everything! Make a list if you have
to and cross things off once you checked them to make sure
you did in fact get them all done.
