• Easter in Spain is a very important festivity.• Easter Sunday is a Christian celebration that commemorates Jesus

Christ’s resurrection. The date of celebration varies from the 22nd of March to the 25th of April, since it takes place Sunday after the first Full Moon of spring in the Northern hemisphere.

• The Easter egg is originated in a pre-Christian celebration that celebrated the spring equinox. The original idea was to paint eggs with shining colors that represented the spring sun, the mystery, the magic and the joy of the life, but in Spain we don’t eat Easter eggs, we eat a traditional cake called “La Mona” usually made of chocolate.

• Even though there might be fancy chocolate pieces, the important Monas keep being the ones chosen by children, the true stars of the celebration. This year the most popular ones have been the chocolate reproductions of famous movie and TV characters, such as The Incredible, the Lunnis, and of course the Football Club Barcelona stars, Ronaldinho or Eto’o.

• In Catalonia, where the tradition has become a great event over the years, it has become the chance for master chocolate makers to show off their art and knowledge, exhibiting their most incredible creations.
