He added that it is the dream and vision of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to take this tool of warp and weft of our social fabric at global level.

downtrodden and light a candle in the house of poorest of the poor with its schemes and programmes especially in the COVID- 19period .KVIC has played a strong role in building the Nation, and this is also reflected in the leap growth of 6.28% to 28% in past 08 years which can be marked as the glorious period in empowering the Khadi and Village Industries artisans. Once again installation of Charkha in the KVIC, Mumbai is a tribute to our artisans who have dedicated their life in following legacy set by Gandhiji.

It may be noted that in the last four years, the KVIC had installed grand Charkhas across the nation at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi which is the worlds largest Charkha, Grand Steel Charkha at Rajiv Chowk in Connaught Place, Steel Charkha in Charkha Park – located in front of Gandhi Museum at Motihari, and steel Charkha at the Sabarmati Riverfront to remind the people about the importance of Charkha in our freedom struggle.

Earlier, on 1st October 2020,on the eve of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Chairman KVIC in association with CEO KVIC launched 150 activities of Khadi and Village Industries across the Nation, which includes inauguration of Sales outlets/worksheds, training on potters wheels, distribution of bee boxes/charkhasto the artisans, inauguration of SFURTI and PMEGP units through videoconferencing. He mentioned that the programs aimed at creating sustainable local employment and making artisans Aatmanirbhar.

Now feel the fineness of handcrafted Khadi fabric in the footwear. Minister for MSME, Shri Nitin Gadkari on 21st October, 2020 launched India’s first-ever high quality Khadi Fabric Footwear, designed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

www.khadiindia.gov.in. Shri Gadkari heaped praises on Khadi fabric footwear saying such unique products had high potential of capturing the international market. At the same time, he said, Khadi fabric footwear would create additional employment and higher income for our artisans.

“Khadi footwear is a unique product. International quality and use of fine fabric like Patola SIlk, Banarasi Silk, Cotton, Denim would attract the youngsters who can purchase it online. These footwear are cost-effective,” Shri Gadkari said while also urging the KVIC to develop other leather accessories like ladies’ handbags, purses, wallet in handcrafted Khadi

fabric that has a huge potential in foreign markets. “By developing and marketing such products overseas, Khadi India can capture a market worth Rs 5000 crore,” the MSME Minister said.

Hon’ble Minister of State for MSME, Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi said the Khadi fabric footwear is not only environment-friendly and skin-friendly but it reflects the hard work of Khadi artisans that has been put in to make fabric for these footwear. “I congratulate KVIC for developing Khadi fabric footwear according to the global taste. I am sure by occupying a major share in the footwear industry, Khadi fabric footwear will help in reviving the country’s economy,” Shri Sarangi said.

To begin with, the footwear have been launched in 15 designs for ladies and 10 designs for men. Exquisite Khadi products like Patola Silk of Gujarat, Banarasi Silk, Madhubani-printed Silk of Bihar, Khadi Denim, Tussar Silk, Matka - Katia Silk, a variety of Cotton fabric, Tweed Wool and Khadi Poly Vastra have been used to make these footwear unique and trendy. Available in a wide range of designs, colors and prints, these footwear have been designed to suit clothing for all purposes - formal, casual and festive occasions. The Khadi footwear price ranges from Rs 1100 to Rs 3300 per pair.

KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena said Venturing into new segments, tapping new markets and diversifying the product range, as envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, have been the mantra for Khadi’s stupendous success in the last six years.

“The idea behind launching Khadi Fabric Footwear was to tap the international market where a large section of international consumers are increasingly going vegan and hence, Khadi will become a preferred choice of this segment. “Khadi fabric footwear is a small step for people, but it will be a giant leap for our Khadi artisans. Using fine fabric like Cotton, Silk and Wool in footwear will lead to higher production of fabric by artisans as well as increase in its consumption. This will ultimately create additional employment and higher income for Khadi artisans,” Saxena said. The size of Indian footwear industry is approx Rs 50,000 crore which includes exports worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore. Saxena said our initial target is to capture at least 2% of this Industry that is estimated to be around Rs 1000 crore.

Incidentally, the idea behind developing the Khadi fabric footwear also coincides with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Local to Global”. Earlier, KVIC had successfully launched its first-ever Khadi wrist watch in association with Titan which has been a trend-setter.

Shri Gadkari distributed E-rickshaws to 5 divyang people through video-conference. These beneficiaries will be able to sell various Khadi products like Khadi fabric, readymade clothes, food items, food spices and other locally made products in nearby villages. Another 5 mobile Khadi selling units will be distributed in the next few days.

Shri Gadkari lauded the initiative of KVIC saying this would empower the Divyang people b y c r e a t i n g s u s t a i n a b l e l i v e l i h o o d opportunities. At the same time, he said, this will increase the sale of Khadi and thus prompt higher production by Khaid artisans. He said efforts will be made to distribute at least 500 such mobile selling units to divyang people in every district of India.

“This is the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country by KVIC. With these mobile selling units, our Divyang brothers will be able to earn a respectable and sustainable livelihood. As they will go to different villages selling Khadi products, it will also increase the reach of Khadi to a larger population,” Shri Gadkari said.

In another initiative that will create local employment to Khadi Silk artisans, Hon'ble Minister of State for MSME, Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi laid the foundation of a Silk Production cum Training Center at Choudwar in Odisha. This is the first such unit in the state that will produce high quality Tussar Silk yarn.

On this occasion, Shri Sarangi said this was a major step towards empowering the local artisans and increasing the silk production in Odisha. He said Odisha is known for producing high quality Silk; however, for want of a local Silk production and training center, the raw material had to be procured from outside. “This will not only be helpful in training our artisans but create sustainable employment too,” Shri Sarangi said.

KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, who also joined the event through video-conference, said the Silk production cum training unit will be a big boost to the Silk activities in the state and assured that the unit will start functioning in the next two to three months.

A noble initiative of associating Divyang people with Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan was

launched by Hon'ble Minister of MSME Shri Nitin Gadkari with distribution of mobile Khadi ndselling units in his Parliamentary Constituency of Nagpur on Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October.

Shri Pratap Chand Sarangi MOS for MSME to lay foundation of Odisha’s first Tussar Silk Production cum Training Center at Choudwar. This unit will provide local raw material for Silk industry in Odisha, create employment and empower artisans.

Union Minister of State for MSME Pratap Chandra Sarangi laid the foundation stone of a Silk Production cum Training Centre at Choudwar in the district on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sarangi said Odisha is known for producing high quality silk. But, the raw material has to be procured from outside due to lack of a local silk production unit. This gap will be filled up after the centre comes up, he added.

Besides, it will lead to empowerment of the

local artisans. This is the first such unit in the State that will produce high quality Tussar silk yarn.

“Initially, the manufacturing unit will provide employment to around 40 people. In next one year, we are planning to increase production capacity which could generate employment for around 500 people,” Shri Sarangi said.

KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, who attended the event through video-conference, assured that the unit will start functioning in two to three months.

On 1st October 2020, the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated 150 events, the first ever exercise of this magnitude in the country by KVIC, to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. North Eastern States like Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur and other states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat led the country with the highest number of programs for artisans’ empowerment.

The ambitious Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana of KVIC, for the first time, reached the West Garo Hills of Meghalaya where training for 40 potter families began at Phulbari Village on Thursday. In total, 10 events were organized in the North Eastern states that also include readymade garments units, jewellery production unit and inauguration of Khadi sales emporium in different states.

As many as 41 new Khadi sales outlets, 27 ew manufacturing units under PMEGP and 14 new work sheds and common facility centers were inaugurated across the country. These include 8

new sales outlets and 4 new work sheds in Varanasi. At 10 different places, new model charkha were distributed to Khadi artisans. These new facilities will go a long way in increasing artisans’ productivity and their income. Several programs under Honey Mission, Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana and a number of manufacturing units under flagship scheme PMEGP were also inaugurated on Thursday.

KVIC Chairman said the programs aim at creating sustainable local employment and making artisans Aatmanirbhar. “Mahatma Gandhi always believed that rural resurgence was the key to country’s development. This has also been the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The initiatives of KVIC essentially aim at empowering farmers, women and unemployed youths. Creating livelihood opportunities, increasing local production and providing new marketing platforms to Khadi institutions will pave the way for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat”,” Saxena said.

entrepreneurs under PMEGP also expanded their activities with support of KVIC. This includes a woman entrepreneur in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh who started stitching activities with a loan of Rs 16 lakh four years back, has taken a second dose of loan of Rs one crore to s ta r t a fu l l - f ledged home furn ish ing manufacturing center providing employment to 60 persons. Similarly, an aluminum utensils manufacturing unit in Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh has been granted a second dose of loan of Rs 60 lakh to expand the production capacity providing employment to 55 persons .

In Pampore in Jammu & Kashmir, KVIC launched the training of artisans on Crewel and Sozni embroidery and weaving of shawl. Similarly, in Himachal Pradesh, manufacturing units of disposable plates, wooden furniture and a boutique were inaugurated. In West Bengal,

In Kerala’s Payyannur, a design clinic and Online Shopping portal was inaugurated while in Kottyam, charkha were distributed to Divyang people. Uttar Pradesh too organized several programs for inauguration of manufacturing units of cement blocks, de te rgen t powder , non-women bags , automobile workshop and beauty parlor under PMEGP. Furniture manufacturing unit and beekeeping training were launched in Uttarakhand.

KVIC will also launch Christmas and New Year special masks in the coming days.

The Muslin face masks have been developed following the overwhelming public response to two layers Khadi Cotton and three layers Silk masks. So far KVIC has sold over 18 lakh such face masks across the country in less than six months’ time.

The Diwali Muslin face masks are priced nominally at Rs 75 a piece and are available for sale through the Khadi outlets in Delhi and o n l i n e t h r o u g h K V I C ’ s e - p o r t a l www.khadiindia.gov.in.

Like the other variants of Khadi face masks, the Muslin face masks too are skin-friendly, washable, reusable and bio-degradable and economical that suits all pockets. This face mask consists of two layers of pure white Muslin fabric. The sparkling red piping on the masks adds to the style quotient as it has been designed to gel with the festive attires.

Despite Covid-19 Fear, Khadi India's Flagship CP Outlet Records sale of Rs. 1.02 crore on Gandhi Jayan�

On 2nd October , the overall sales of Khadi was recorded at Rs 1,02,19,496, which is significantly high given the prevailing Corona pandemic situation. Last year, the total sale at Khadi's CP outlet on October 2, stood at Rs 1.27 crore.

As many as 1633 bills were generated throughout the day with an average purchase of

Rs 6258 per bill. Customers belonging to different segments and age-groups queued at the Khadi India outlet since morning. Notably, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has also launched its customary annual special 20% discount on all products to

the country. “Empowering the marginalized potters’ community and reviving the dying art of pottery is the dream of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. With proper training and distribution of advanced equipment under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana, the productivity and income of potters has increased manifolds. The scheme will further be implemented in other remote areas of Maharashtra and other states,” Shri Gadkari said. On this occasion, the Hon’ble Minister also interacted with some artisans who expressed happiness on receiving the government support. They said with increase in

production using electric potter wheel, they were now earning 3-4 times more than what they earned earlier.

KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, who joined the Hon’ble Minister through video-conference, said that more than 18,000 electric chaaks have so far been distributed across the country benefiting nearly 80,000 people of the community. He said the average income of potters under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana has gone up from nearly Rs 3000 per month to nearly Rs 10,000 per month. “Empowering every potter in the country is the sole objective of the program and KVIC will spare no effort in achieving this goal,” he said.

“Gandhi ji had always emphasized on empowering the Kashmiri people through Khadi. Our Hon'ble Prime Minister too has a special place for Kashmir in his heart and KVIC is working to fulfill this dream of the Prime Minister by creating sustainable employment opportunities in the state. Several art forms of Kashmir like Crewe l and Sozn i embro ide ry , Pashmina shawls, paper mache and its pottery are internationally acclaimed. By providing artisans proper training, advanced equipment and marketing platform, these products can definitely make them aatmanirbhar,” Saxena said.

A number of artisans including potters present on the occasion interacted with the KVIC Chairman and thanked him for providing them with the support they needed to earn a better livelihood. Mushtaq , a potter who was given an electric potter wheel by KVIC, said his work would be easier now with these equipment and that his daily production of clay material and his income would also increase significantly.

The high sale figure of Khadi this year assumes greater significance. While almost all activities were closed during the Covid-19 lockdown, KVIC continued with its diverse activities across the count ry tha t inc ludes the manufacturing of face masks and personal hygiene products like hand wash and hand sanitizers apart from a vast range of fabric and village industries products

It was the dream of none other than Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to empower the Kumhar community through modern technology and revive the dying art of pottery making in the country.

One such beneficiary of the program is Jai Shankar Pandit, a potter in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar who along with his father used to work earlier on stone chaak. A sea-change has, however, ushered in his life after he

Jai Shankar is now making the idols of the Hon'ble Prime Minister and also earning a respectable livelihood by selling them in Bihar and West Bengal. While Pandit thanked the Hon'ble Prime Minister for empowering the potters' community in Bihar, he said his family could now earn a sustainable livelihood. He said it was the popularity of the Hon'ble Prime Minister that also prompted him to make his idols. “The idols of Modi ji are selling in good numbers and fetching me good price. So far I have sold 75-80 such idols at a rate of Rs 800 per piece,” Pandit said.

“Keeping in view the festive season and the ban on Chinese clay items by Modi Ji, I am also making idols of deities - Durga, Laxmi and Ganesh - and a variety of deeya and decorative items to reap maximum advantage,” he said. He particularly thanked the Prime Minister for providing better marketing avenues l i k e m a k i n g e a r t h e n w a r e mandatory at various railway stations in Bihar.

Just two years ago, nobody had even thought that the marginalized potters' community in Bihar would have their day. However, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) launched an ambitious program “Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana” to empower the Kumhar community in Bihar.

“Connecting the potters' community with the mainstream of society by increasing their production and income is the sole objective of Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana. The program has been currently suspended in Bihar due to the Model Code of Conduct but soon after the elections, the Mission will be restarted and spread to the remotest parts of Bihar empowering every potter family,” Saxena said.

In just two years KVIC has distribute 500 electric potter wheels to 500 potter families and empowered nearly 20,000 people in Bihar which is estimated to have the potters' population of nearly 10 lakh. KVIC has

distributed electric chaak to potters in districts like Rohtas, Bhojpur, Nawada, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Patna, East & west Champaran, Khagaria and Sitamarhi.

“The electric potter wheel has made pottery making quite easier. Working on old traditional chaaks required a lot of physical work but the electric chaak has taken away the drudgery from pottery making. The daily production has also gone up. Earlier, I could hardly make 100 to 150 deeya or Kulhar a day but on the electric chaak, I am making 500 to 600 deeya and Kulhar everyday,” Pandit said.
