We hire energetic staff who are resourceful & caring adults who genuinely enjoy working with children; staff who have experience working with kids who want to have fun, but are not afraid of making sure there are established rules for everyone to follow. We believe it takes unique adults to work with your unique children. Rest assured all staff is screened through interviews, criminal background checks & references.

Never a dull moment! Some activities are indoors & some are outdoors. Be prepared for both! Don’t forget your sunscreen & water bottle!

Each week has a theme to spark creativity & to explore new ideas & topics.

This is our #1 priority. We examine our equipment for safe usage & assure that our materials are non-toxic, our games & sports fair with an emphasis on good sportsmanship & respect for each other. Camp Staff are trained in emergency response procedures. The EPCC aquatic staff are always available & are extensively trained in modern CPR/First Aid techniques. All participants must be checked in & out by an adult & all children must have a contact sheet on file in our office.

Children should wear sports shoes with closed toes for active indoor & outdoor activities. Also, morning camp participants should bring a lunch. Snacks are provided, though an additional snack should be sent for those in Summer Daze afternoon camp. All campers should bring a water bottle.

Portland Parks has been providing activities to kids in Portland way before cell phones, iPods, gameboys or any other technological advances were invented! We operate under the philosophy that kids should be active & engaged with their peers during the day camp experience &

therefore, do not allow these distractions at our camps.

Portland Parks and Recreation provides assistance to those needing special accommodations to participate in our programs. Register for the camp & then contact

Inclusion Services at (503) 823-4328. A minimum of ten working days before the first day of

camp is required to request inclusion services.

Our schedule combines indoor & outdoor experiences, active

time, as well as time to just relax, free choice activities & more in-depth directed activities. All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced to. Alternate activities that can be done in the same space as the group will be offered. Occasionally, a camp will include a guest speaker & special educational experiences.

Welcome to another action packed, fun filled summer.

is to provide campers with an interactive, educational & recreational camp experience with an emphasis on FUN. We strive to meet the developmental needs of each child including their personal, social & emotional growth, in a safe & fun environment.

East Portland Community Center strives to provide families with a variety of options to fill the long days of summer. We offer a variety of half-day camps that can be taken individually or combined with others for a longer day.

Sign up for Li’l Adventures - Afternoon or Summer Daze & our staff will supervise the 30 minutes “bridge time” between camps.

Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm; different age groups & different sports each week. Combine with Lunch Bunch, 12-1pm, for a transition or cool down period after the camp. If signed up for Lunch Bunch, the staff will escort children to 1pm or 1:30pm camps.

Mix & Match sports & gymnastic camps between 1pm-4pm for both age groups. Our staff will supervise children during the transitions from Li’l Ventures or Adventure Zone camps & the time between the two Mix & Match Camps.

lanes are designated according to a swimmer’s speed; slow, medium & fast. Look at the yellow markers and

the end of the pool to find your appropriate lane.

laP SWiM (lap Pool)We will make every attempt to have 1-2 lap lanes available, at all times, for adult lap swimmers. Up

Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to fully participate in programs offered citywide.

How it WorksFirst choose the activity you’d like to do & the PP&R site at which you’d like to do it. Next, register for the class. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity. Once registered, contact Inclusion Services at (503) 823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services, you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member at that number. At the end of the phone intake it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support at the age-appropriate class. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs.

A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids & services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed & can be flexible & creative, ensuring the participant engages as independently as possible.

If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.

INCLUSION SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The East Portland Community Center educational preschool program is based on the philosophy that children develop & grow at their own rate. In order to grow & develop their senses a child must “play” by exploring & manipulating their environment. To enhance this experience, the classroom is set up in learning centers that enable children to explore different areas of development such as fine motor, socialization, pre-math, pre-reading & listening skills.

Preschool for your child is the foundation for academic learning. The East Portland Community Center Preschool

Program follows the traditional school schedule with children enrolled September through May.

once registered, it is assumed your child will remain with the program for the entire school year.

To Enroll for 2012-2013 School Year:To reserve your child’s spot in class, a one-time, non-refundable $35 materials fee must

be paid at the time of registration.

Tier I - Current Students:Beginning at 9am on Thursday, March 1 to March 13, current students & their siblings

Aikido Yoshokai Aikido, a form of Japanese Budo, is a path to self improvement based on martial art techniques. The goal of our study is not to defeat or control others, but to defeat and control our own egos. Students work as partners to study dynamic throws and powerful pins. It may look like they are fighting, but they are actually learning how to fit together and create harmony instead of conflict. We study harmony in Aikido so that we may learn to live in harmony with nature and the world. Clothing: Wear comfortable clothes. No jewelry. Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides

accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to

fully participate in programs offered citywide.
