Primary News Staff have been extremely busy writing reports this week and I would personally like to acknowledge their

efforts. In some instances, staff can have to write up to 180 comments which equate to approximately 30

hours of report writing; of which the majority is completed in their own time. Reports along with

parent/teacher interviews are part of our assessment and reporting procedure and it is a DECD requirement

that students receive two written reports a year. Parents are encouraged to read reports carefully and make

time to speak with teachers to discuss any clarifications that are needed.

On Tuesday the year 5/6 students travelled to Jamestown for choir practice. Well done to Rydah Cheriton and

Chloe Frick who auditioned for comperes. Congratulations to Mia, Tess and Pippa who have a solo

performance at this year’s concert at the Northern Festival Centre next term. A big thank you to Jenni Caldwell

who again gave up her time to drive the bus.

Each term the local churches of Booleroo Centre and surrounding areas present a Christian Seminar to

students from R-6. These seminars are opt-in so each student must have parental permission to attend which

was in the pack at the start of the year. Thank you to Trish, Rolf and Leanne who came in yesterday and

presented a session to our primary students.

A reminder that next Tuesday July 4th is the Term 2 Primary Assembly in the gym at 2.30pm. Parents,

grandparents and community members are most welcome to attend. The sign in sheet will be placed in the

gym foyer for people to sign in. We look forward to seeing you there.

Senior News Year 10 Careers Camp

Next week the Year 10 class are off to Adelaide for a week to investigate different careers as part of their PLP

Semester 2

This Monday was the first day of Semester 2 subjects. All students received new timetables and the

adjustment to new classes went well. The start of Semester 2 also means our year 12’s are well over half way

through their academic year.

Reports

Teachers are busy writing reports this week. These will go home with both primary and secondary students

next Friday afternoon.

ICT

Students are reminded that they are NOT to change the mice, keyboards, internet cables, projector cables etc.

from any of the computers as it can create problems with the computers. We encourage students to talk to

the teacher if they are having trouble with the computers rather than trying to fix problems themselves. Also

all students are reminded to backup their materials into their home folder at school. Students shouldn’t just

rely on their USB’s as they can fail or be lost and this can cause great distress. Finally we have been made

aware that some students are on selling USB’s that they have found. This is stealing and creates unnecessary

stress and cost for students and parents. If students find a USB that is not theirs, then please encourage them

to be respectful and hand it in to the front office. If you are aware of this happening then please encourage

your child to speak to a teacher about it.

Dear Principal and Year 12 Coordinator,

Re: 2017 C.A.S. Hawker Scholarships Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Hawker family member the Hon. David Hawker AO presented four new Charles Hawker Scholars from three states with their scholarship certificates this morning (01/06) at a ceremony held at St Mark’s College in Adelaide.

Since 1990, the Hawker Scholarship Trustees have awarded $5 million dollars to 118 Australian students, including a significant number from regional areas. The four successful candidates were awarded their residential Hawker Scholarships from a strong field of 184 applicants.

The new scholars are studying Philosophy, Physics, Mathematics, Agribusiness, Law, History and Development Studies.. The 2017 scholars are from Melbourne, Booleroo Centre (SA), Borambola (NSW) and Bathurst (NSW). The 2017 Charles Hawker Scholarship recipients are Ms. Olivia BROWN (Lauriston Girls’ School VIC), Mr. MacKinlay COOKSON (Trinity Anglican College Albury NSW & Melbourne Grammar School VIC), Ms. Ella GRAHAM (Booleroo Centre District School SA) and Mr. Daniel McKAY (The Scots School Bathurst & the Australian National University ACT). There are a number of scholarships awarded each year. The Trustees offer them to capable students of principle and character, who have demonstrated a committed to the wider community. Selection is based on personal qualities as well as academic ability.
