Day care Facilities for school children (SFO) From 1999 The Norwe-gians schools introduced day care facilities before and after school for chil-dren grades 1-4. This is
to allow the children to play and a good time and have activities that are suited for their age and interests. The grades from 1-4 ends early. And therefore some of the
kids go to the SFO. Upper secondary school have 190 000 pupils and 23 000 teachers by 450 schools. It is young peo-ple between the ages 16 and 21 years. Young people who have completed pri-mary and lower sec-ondary school have a right to three years’ upper secondary edu-cation and training lead-ing ether to admission to higher education, to vo-cational qualifications or to basic skills. We have several programmes. In the vocational fields you take two years and ap-prenticeship. In the other lines you go three years.
Upper secondary educa-
tion and training is or-
ganized in 12 different
education programmes.

MUSIC REVIEW: RIHANNA
Trolls are typical Norwe-
gian. Trolls lives in for-
ests and hides at day. If
they get sunshine on
them they become
stones and die. No one
living now has really
seen a troll, but there
are lots of myths about
them so many believe
t h e y e x i s t .
Often trolls are big and
stupid, but they can also
be very small. Trolls can
be very very old; some of
them are more than 500
years old. The first trolls
occurred in the early
Stone Age and there they
created a lot of trouble.
They destroyed many
farms where they hunted
for food, they often take
pigs and eaten them
alive.

We write an article on « Of mice and men » because we read the book and we studied it with our English and French teachers.
John Steinbeck-’s life John Steinbeck was a writer who was born on February the 27th 1920 in S a l i n a s (California). He is famous
because he wrote twenty-seven books like «Of mice and men » and won the nobel prize of literature. He grow up on the countryside (in Salinas). He studied and gratuated Salinas High-school and he droped the Stanford uni-versity without degrees to writing. He decided to become a writer at the age of fourteen. He settled down in New York City and next to Tahoe City to write. He died on December the 20th in New York City.
What is interesting in of mice and men? This book is a tragic novel, it was published in 1937.It takes place in t h e
1930’s, when it was the Great De-pression, a severe worldwide econo-mic crisis. The book is interesting because the friendship between the protagonists is very strange, they haven’t got the same character. « Of mice and men » is like a drama. John Stein-beck adapted his book for the stage. It was also adapted as a film.
Summary George and Lennie are two hoboes who travel together, and who want to find a job in ranches. They are friends but they are opposi-te : Lennie is an idiot but he is very strong whereas George is smart but he is not very strong. Lennie have many troubles and Geor-ge always protect him.He is like his father. Survey Our class have read the book and we have made a survey. Fourteen persons in our class are cra-zy about the book because : -The protagonists are touching. -Their friendship is strange. -It’s different from other novels. -It’s a beautiful story but it’s sad. -The end is more interesting than the beginning. Twelve persons in our class dislike the book because : -There’s not much action. -The story is cyclic.

Human Rights Watch was established in 1978, as a private American interna-tional non-governmental organization with the name Helsinki Watch. Their main task was to fo-cus on states that commit human rights violations. During the 80’s it were formed several organiza-tions which eventually formed an organization called Human Right Watch. We have interviewed Ole
Solvang which comes from
our hometown, Alvdal. He
works in Human Rights
Watch.

What were your ambitions in your childhood? I had no particular ambi-tions. Early in my childhood I wanted to work with something international. I think I wanted to work with it because my parents took me on some trips. My mother went to work abroad when I was in lower s e c o n d a r y s c h o o l . Do other Norwegians work in the organization? There are two other Nor-wegians, who work for Hu-
man Rights Watch. One of them is Jan Egeland. He is a man with extensive ex-perience and has worked both of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, The Nor-wegian Red Cross and the United Nations before he started working with us. The other person is Caro-line Eriksen. She is Eng-land’s assistant. There is always room for more Norwegians.
Where do you sleep when you are on a mis-sion? It varies. On some mis-sions we sleep at a hotel. We obviously choose not the most expensive ho-tels, but they are usually completely unravel. Many times we have to adapt ourselves to the condi-tions. In Syria, some houses have been very nice but I have also slept on the floor without any mattress. In the last three nights in Syria, we spent the nights outside under the open sky in the coun-tryside because we were worried about air raids in the village where we were
based. It turned out to be wise. The last day, a bomb from an airplane hit a house that was 50 meters away from the house we usually stayed. http://www.youtube.com/w a t c h ?v=YMfE9_q6kvw&feature=player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/

What impressions do the job
to you?
The job provides many differ-
ent impressions. Sometimes
it's hard to see that ordinary
people are subjected to gross
human rights abuses. Some
of the things that make the
biggest impressions are when
children are killed, injured or
arrested and tortured. It has
been particularly difficult to
work with it in Syria where
children are exposed to many
different attacks very often.
But the job gives also very
positive impressions. As war
usually brings out the worst
in people it also brings some-
thing good out of people. It is
always very inspiring when
we see people helping each
other, although they often
expose themselves to danger
itself. It is also impressive to
see how strong some people,
even if they or their families
have been subjected to terri-
ble things.

read about what goes on in the outside world, and to travel to see with your own eyes how different the world is. Then you can decide af-terwards that Alvdal is still the place to stay (sometimes I think it myself), but then you have at least tried some-thing else and made a con-scious choice. I think you're going to set more apprecia-tive of the positive aspects of Alvdal. What is the worst thing you've experienced in the workplace? I usually remember the first and last impressions best. When I worked in Uzbekistan in 2002, I followed a trial to document human rights abuses. Both of the accused, witnesses and the defen-dant's family members had been grossly tortured. Even so, the culprits were sen-tenced to death. At that time, as did the very idea that the world could be so unfair and that there was nothing I could do about it. At least so it felt like then. But I also remember some of the last impressions of Syria last week. On Friday it was the artillery attack on a building 200 meters from the hospital where we were. A few minutes later, they brought in a 10 years old boy. He had been hit, so much of his head was gone, and he was obviously dead when they brought him. It made quite an impression. Is there a gender dominated profession?
There are very many women who work in Human Rights. I think there are a lot of more women than men who work for Human Rights Watch. But unfortunately, most of the bosses are men, as in many other organizations. So we need more men in the or-ganization in general, but more female managers. How was it to learn Russian,
and how is it to be fluent
Russian in everyday life?
Russian was very hard to
learn! I've never studied so
much and worked so hard. I
got up at 5 AM every morn-
ing and studied all day until I
went to bed around 10
o'clock At the most, we had
to learn about 150 new Rus-
sian words every day. But it
was worth it. To know a lan-
guage that not everyone
else, did that I got very good
job offers and that was how I
managed to get my first job
at Human Rights Watch. You
also get much better contact
with people when you can
speak their language. I'm not
so much with the Russian
daily anymore. But my wife
is Russian and she has a 12-
year-old son. We try to
speak Russian sometimes
(mostly so I do not forget
everything), but I must admit
that it is mostly in English.
But Russian is obviously very
handy when in-laws come to
visit.
What do you do to process all the impressions? I'm lucky to have a wife who works with exactly the same. We talk a lot about what we see and experience. I think this is very important. You have to share impressions. I think it would be very diffi-cult to deal with it all alone. In addition, it is important to maintain a gentle optimism. I try to focus on the positive when I can, that we some-times are able to help peo-ple, and sometimes we even save lives. It is important not to focus on how difficult eve-rything is. Then it is easy to despair. Solan’s (Alvdal’s mascot) motto is good: For he is a trifle difficult, the im-possible is a challenge Are there any advantages or disadvantages to come from a little village as Alvdal? The main advantage of growing up in a small village as Alvdal is that you have a very safe and good upbring-ing. There are not too many dangers here and you de-velop friendships that last a lifetime. It provides a good foundation to move out into the world later. Alvdal will always be "home." The downside of growing up in Alvdal is that we have it too good. I think it's almost hard for us to understand what goes on outside the in the world. It can also be a bit difficult to "get out" of Alvdal the first few times. Therefore I think it is very important to be involved, watch the evening news,

Many European teams often buy out players in the Bulgarian national championship; this is probably the only way for Bulgarian players to succeed in sports. Some of the most successful soccer players from Bul-garia are Dimitar Berbatov, Hristo Soichkov and Martin Petrov. Dimitar Berbatov and Martin Petrov are now playing in the English premiership and Hristo Stoichkov has played in the Spanish Grand Barcelona. Like all of the sports in Bulgaria, players that stay in Bulgaria often get the mini-mum wage for that country. One of the best gym athletes of Bul-garia is Jordan Iovchev. He is proba-bly one of the most successful gym athletes in the history of the sports in Bulgaria. Jordan Iovchev usually wins the gold medal at the Olympics.
The most popular sports in Bulgaria are football, basketball, volleyball, tennis and gymnastics. Due to the poor finance sports in Bulgaria are not on such advanced level as the sports for example in England, but despite that young people still get involved in them.
Probably one of the most popular sports in Bulgaria is football. Bulgar-ian players are known all over the world for their skills.
Bulgaria fields one of the leading vol-leyball teams in Europe and the world. As of January 2009 the team held 4th place in the world according to FIVB rankings. Bulgaria has regu-larly featured in the Top 10.
