The event began with the light- ing of buer lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Dawa Phunkyi (Chief Execuve Officer of Delek Hos- pital & ATPD member) followed by homage prayers of Yuthok. The Principal of the College wel- comed the chief guest and the dignitaries present. He gave an introducon of the origin of Sowa Rigpa and how the first medicine school was set up in the seventh century at Konpo Menlung in Tibet and then various schools sprang up, the most promi- nent were the Chagpori School ( 1696) and in 1916 the Lhaden Men-Tsee-Khang was set up by the 13th Dalai Lama. He also gave an overview of Men-Tsee- Khang in Exile and how the Col- lege developed in these 51 years. The Director of Men-Tsee-Khang Mr. Tsering Tashi addressed the gathering and welcomed all the dignitaries, staff and students of the College on the occasion. He informed that educaonal de- velopment in an effecve and efficient way is an essenal as- pect. "Good discipline, good educaon and good facilies are necessary" said the director. The Chief Guest congratulated the College on its 51st anniversary and he felt it a privelege to be invited because both the establish- ments make con- tribuons in the service of man- kind. It is a day to remind of the achievements and failures and move forward to develop and make good prog- ress. He informed the students, that the interest in serving oth- ers will increase one's potenal in studying harder and achieving Men-Tsee-Khang 1

Award function of diploma certificates in Austria

51st COLLEGE FOUNDING DAY

The College founding day was celebrated on 16th of June, 2012. The event began with the light-ing of butter lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Dawa Phunkyi (Chief Executive Officer of Delek Hos-pital & ATPD member) followed by homage prayers of Yuthok.

The Principal of the College wel-comed the chief guest and the dignitaries present. He as-sured that the Delek Hospital will continue to provide and give any assistance in collaboration or joint work that Men-Tsee-Khang needs as both organizations are serving human beings. Finally, he congratulated and wished success for the New Director.

A book on history of Sowa Rigpa or

medicine called Sorig Kho-aBubs by Dhakar Choki Wangchuk was released on the occasion. The topper students were awarded prizes for the articles posted in the Journal in Tibetan and English.

The dignitaries present during the ceremony were the Chief Medical

Thakchoe Drungt-so. Director of Men-Tsee-Khang; Registrar Mr. Tser-ing Phuntsok and Chairman of Aca-demic Council Dr. Tsewang Tamdin were also pres-ent. The Heads of various depart-ment, College staff and students

were present on the occasion.

COLLEGE PRINCIPAL VISITS AUSTRIA

The Principal of the Tibetan Med-ical & Astrological College, Dr. Tenpa Chophel visited Austria to

attend the Award ceremony of honoring diploma certificates to the first generation of graduates of the diploma courses of Tibet Center I.I.H.T.S (International In-stitute of Higher Tibetan Studies).

The ceremony was graced by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 19 May, 2012 during his 9 day visit to Austria. The award was given to 80 persons who have success-fully completed their studies and exams on Buddhist Philoso-phy, Buddhist Religion and Bud-dhist Science of Mind as well as Traditional Tibetan Medicine through out several semesters.

I.I.H.T.S is the only western insti-tution where the five traditional Tibetan fields of knowledge (ri-gne) are passed on in close co-

operation with the Central Uni-versity of Tibetan Studies (CUTS) Sarnath, Varanasi and the Tibetan Medical & Astro. Institute of H.H. the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, In-dia. The I.I.H.T.S. was founded by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and its role is to preserve and impart precious Tibetan knowledge. The aim is to contribute to the pro-motion of human values, secular ethics, tolerance and compassion.

HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY WORKSHOP

Tibetan Medical & Astrological College organized a workshop

for the students on A Biomedical View of Physiology from 13-14 June, 2012. The resource person for the Human Physiology Work-shop was Dr. Carol Worthman, Samuel C. Dobbs Professor of Anthropology and Director of Compara-tive Lab of Human Biology, Emory Uni-versity, USA. The translation assis-tance was done by Mr. Karma Thupten, Assistant Research

and Translation Officer, Science Department of LTWA (Library of Tibetan Works and Archives). The two days workshop present-ed an overview of the introduc-tion to physiologic systems of how organisms, organ systems, organs and cells and bio-molecules car-ry out the chemical or physical functions that exist in a living system. Two books have been distributed which will provide the students with material for more indepth study namely Vander's Human Physiology

Widmaier, Her-shel Raff & Kevin Strang and Guyton & Hall, Textbook of Medical Physiol-ogy. 58 students, 14 doctors and lecturers of the College partici-

pated during the workshop.

Men-Tsee-Khang would like to thank Emory University and

LTWA for providing their as-sistance with the workshop.

TEACHNGS BY VEN. GANOR RINPOCHE

H. E. Ganor Rinpoche, the 14th reincarnation of Terton Ratag Pelsang (Karma Lekshe Drayang)

visited Men-Tsee-Khang on 4 June, 2012, the auspicious day of Saka Dawa. The Rinpoche has mastered in the fields of Tibetan medicine and astrology.

As requested by the College, he introduced and gave the teach-ings on the therapeutic effects of secret mantra.

He explained in detail the benefits and effectiveness of using it dur-

ing treatment. He also shared his experiences and profound knowledge to the doctors and students.

The relics of the previous Kyab-je Lhadang Palden Chogyal Rinpoche was also displayed to the doctors, students and pub-lic on the occasion.
