INTRODUCTION

Supervision in the context of this workshop is a sacred trust because of the lives and future of the young ones that are ultimately involved.

By the way we supervise, we may ultimately turn out

citizens that are either Perplexed Frustrated Rebellious or Responsible

Supervisors typically Are responsible for their report’s progress

and productivity in the organisation Have strong working knowledge of the

activities in their groups

Supervision of a group of employees often includes:-

Conducting basic management skills which include decision making, problem solving, planning, delegation and meeting management.

Organising their department and teams

Noticing the need for and designing new job roles in the group

For each officer here, aiming to succeed as an

effective supervisor, it is important to honestly

ask yourself and answer the following

questions :- What does it mean to supervise in my

unique role? What would effective supervision look like in

my place of assignment?

“How do we solve the problems we face?” overlooking the human emotions and dynamics present in every complex situation.

for us?” This involves agreements, through clever deal making, seeking brokered deals among competing interests which usually leads to our forsaking other important values.

supervisor concentrates on: Sound Hiring principles. The foundation for

organisational success is found in the hiring action. Avoid the “The boy is bad but manage him syndrome”.

must develop character traits that enhance effective supervision. He must be –

Far – sighted in vision to make provision for future needs.

Compliant with the rules. Persistent in obedience. That enables establishment of significant change.

character traits that enhance effective

supervision. He must be – Courageous in convictions that helps him to see

opportunity where others see only obstacles. Deep loyal to the standards and the organisation

.to him “the means” are as important as “the ends” even in the face of contrary opinions.

supervision. He must be – Contagiously enthusiastic this enables him to

generate the ability to motivate and channel the efforts of others to help accomplish impossible tasks against imposing odds and in record time.

respect and confidence of superiors (as well as the jealousy and intrigue of some peers).

Able to maintain a disciplined drive as a key ingredient that helps him to build a corps of capable and committed staffers.

CONCLUSION

Effective supervision is to seek to develop

skills and to learn new approaches that can

enhance our ability to help others achieve

their tasks with both greater effectiveness

and efficiency, even when doing so means

we must admonish and correct as well as

encourage.
