RETREAT A great success with sessions by Rev Sue Withers, Rev Temukisa, Lynda Smith and Wayne Myers and worship services by Lorraine and David Hughes and Rev Temukisa. This was the tenth retreat for Drysdale and the first for the Linked Congregaons of Bellarine. Plenty of food—don’t ask about the flooding of the kitchen (is Wayne geng forgeul?). DUC MAY/JUNE 2017 APOLOGY for no May Grapevine so this issue covers both May and June.

PROFILE—SUE POLLEY

Sue was born in Geelong where her parents had a mixed farm at Connewarre. She has one brother. They lived on the farm until she was 17. Sue attended Connewarre Primary School and then Oberon High School when it first opened. After Oberon Sue went onto to Nursing at Geelong Hospital Nursing School in 1970. Sue retires from Nursing at Geelong at the end on May after 46 years of service—mostly all full-time. Sue was in charge of a ward at one stage of her career and comments how so much has changed within the hospital—buildings, names, processes

and approach to nursing care. She will be glad to finish but will miss the special patients and colleagues. She commented how the nurses used to play tricks on some of the patients especially the young men in the orthopaedic ward who were there for many months.

Sue originally attended Connewarre Presbyterian Church (which is now part of the Barwon Heads Airport), then the Salvation Army in Geelong when she was working lots of shift work. She came to Drysdale in 2003 just before Rev Peter Cannon started. Sue has son Nathan and daughter-in-law Huyen living with her (although Huyen is in Vietnam waiting for her new visa). Sue helps lead services at Worship @ 9 as part of Graeme’s Team and assists in the kitchen for mainly music. She likes working in the garden and doing family history research.

She attends church because she always believed it was important. Now she thinks it helps her to become more aware of the spirituality of the bible story.

RETREAT

A great success with sessions by Rev Sue Withers, Rev Temukisa, Lynda Smith and Wayne Myers and worship services by Lorraine and David Hughes and Rev Temukisa.

This was the tenth retreat for Drysdale and the first for the Linked Congregations of Bellarine.

Plenty of food—don’t ask about the flooding of the kitchen (is Wayne getting forgetful?).

Extravagant Love –Nola Hill- CWCI

(Christian Women Communicating Inter-national)

Nola Hill was the Guest Speaker at a re-cent CWCI morning tea at Church of Christ in Ocean Grove attended by 40 women of all ages and stages of life.

Nola read us a children’s book about the love of a father and spoke about the hu-man experience of a loving father but also those fathers who did not meet family expectations in many ways, maybe they were distant, off somewhere working or just not active in our lives.

She reminded us that our Heavenly Father is always present and available to us. Ro-mans 8:15 refers to ‘Abba, Father’ and that we are God’s children.

Jen Davis blessed us with her singing of ‘I Walked in the Garden’. Before Jen started she shared with the group of her cancer, which may restrict her singing in the fu-ture. Her voice was strong and beautiful.

Nola went on to say we are created for the garden, God wants us to live in the garden as we read in Genesis.

Our greatest need as a human is to be loved. The character and nature of Father God is one of loving us. Nola went on to say that God has chosen us, appointed us to be His. He has a plan for our lives. Ephesians 2:10,’We are His masterpiece, made in His image’.

Do not be discouraged in times of ill health ,spiritual inadequacy, financial or emotional difficulties, maybe stop and give yourself a hug. Life has its ups and downs but this Father remains.

In finishing Nola asked us to pour out our extravagant love on the lives of other people by just being you.
