LATE CHARGE CONTINUESThe late season form of the Orrcon Steel-backed Ford Performance Racing team pilots, Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison has continued in Tasmania, with Winterbottom now moving into third in the Championship. The pair both stood on the podium on Sunday at Symmons Plains and could feel a little aggrieved not to have made it higher up in Saturday’s race - where they finished fourth and fifth - Winterbottom getting the best of it in that stoush.Winterbottom led the opening stanza of Saturday’s race after beating Jamie Whincup off the line. An issue during his pitstop cost him six seconds and dropped him back in the pack.A great fightback ensued, which ultimately saw Winterbottom and Davison on track together. They were unable to advance their positions, crossing the line fourth and fifth. This result put Winterbottom in striking distance of third in the Championship - and a solid result on Sunday would see him in front of Shane van Gisbergen.

Qualifying was a pleasing result for the FPR team, with Paul Dumbrell setting pole in the satellite FPR car, meantime Winterbottom joined him on the front row.The pair were nose to tail until the first round of stops. Dumbrell overshot the turn on pit exit and was very lucky not to collect both Winterbottom and Davison on the exit. The three recovered with Davison into position to challenge, leader Jamie Whincup. He maintained a one second gap for much of the middle stanza of the race, however was unable to challenge the Championship leader.Winterbottom’s brakes were overheating - which stymied his challenge - however third was enough to bring him into the Championship top three - and he walked away with the fastest lap of the race. The Orrcon Steel FPR team have turned the corner and are coming home with a wet sail...bring on the last two rounds!

Orrcon Steel is supporting Ford Performance Racing’s Movember campaign - which Will Davison (pictured) has taken to with gusto!FPR is Ford’s official V8 Supercar representative in the annual fundraiser - which raises awareness around men’s health issues - such as depression and prostate cancer. Will and Team Principal, Tim Edwards are leading the charge, along with many of the team - who are sporting some mighty dodgy looking growths!Orrcon Steel urges our supporters to get in on the act to and visit FPR’s Mospace at http://mobro.co/FPR

MO BROS!

The Ford Performance Racing team had one of it’s best weekends of the season right across the board at Symmons Plains. From first practice on Friday right through, the two Orrcon Steel-backed FPR Falcons and Paul Dumbrell’s The Bottle-O Falcon were setting the pace. With one soft tyre event - Sandown - and the Sydney Telstra 500 left, it bodes well for a strong finish to the year. The best news is that the soft tyre woes of winter are long gone - and that means that the team is in a great position to challenge from round one in 2012!

Foundation Orrcon Team Steel member, Mark Larkham catches up with his former team driver - and current Orrcon Steel spearhead, Mark Winterbottom ahead of Sunday’s race. The Armor All Gold Coast 600 is always one of the busiest events of the year for the drivers and teams, but one of the more enjoyable as the Orrcon Steel FPR boys proved through the activities they took on!

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT ACCORDING TO WINTERBOTTOM

Orrcon Steel Ford Performance Racing Falcon driver, Mark Winterbottom has been one of the first of the current crop of V8 Supercar racers to test the 2013 model V8 Supercar - dubbed “Car of the Future”.He and Kelly Racing pilot, Rick Kelly, represented both sides of the manufacturer divide at a test pre-Tasmania. He will have another test of the car this week at Winton Motor Raceway ahead of Sandown.Much of the testing has been around the tyre pack-age that will be fitted to the car.V8 Supercars and Dunlop are looking to an 18” wheel package. On the current car, the wheel size is 15”. By having a larger wheel, it will ensure the car has more ‘tyre’ accessing the track - thus giving the car more traction and grip.Frosty’s first impressions of the car were very good:

“The car I drove was an unfinished product, it still has a way to go, but first impressions were very positive - I think it is going to be a good thing,” Win-terbottom said.“The car is very nimble - much more so than our cur-rent cars. It is great to drive.“Much of what I focused on was tyre development. I tested numerous compounds of Dunlop tyres at 18 inches and they all gave very good feedback.”Orrcon Steel Ford Performance Racing Team Prin-cipal, Tim Edwards has been heavily involved in the development of the Car of the Future as part of the steering committee as established by V8 Supercars. The Car of the Future will have it’s first public unveil-ing at the Sydney Telstra 500 in December.Pic: Carsguide.com.au

A very quick turnaround to come back across Bass Strait and into Melbourne means little rest for teams or drivers. For the Or-rcon Steel-backed FPR team, Sandown is a home race - which is always welcomed by the drivers and crew. Sandown has hosted more Australian Touring Car Champion-

ship events than any other circuit and caters for spectators ar-guably better than any other circuit - with views spanning most of the track. It holds a special place in the eye of most teams and provided Frosty with his second career win. Will had a mas-sive accident here last year and is looking for a big result.
