PODIUM & SOLID START TO ENDUROS

Mark Winterbottom gave his brand new Orrcon Steel Ford Performance Racing machine a solid debut at Phillip Island, however being in the wrong spot at the wrong time conspired to dampen he and Steven Richards’ overall finishing positions. The FPR team were ecstatic after Saturday’s performances, which saw Will Davison take the team’s first win of season 2011 after setting the pole-time for his 14 lap qualifying sprint race. With Luke Youlden’s 15th place (after he took the pair’s single compulsory pitstop), they were guaranteed a pole position start.Winterbottom’s outstanding drive from 13th to fourth following a fuel pressure issue in his qualifying session saw he and Richards start the race from ninth on the grid.Richo made a sensational start in his first stint, getting the car into the top five. On his out lap, he was used as a braking marker at the turn four hairpin, dropping numerous positions.

When handing the car over to Frosty to bring it home, the pair were approaching the top 10 and could have finished inside the 10 if it wasn’t for a late race collision with one of the DJR machines. This damaged the steering and saw Winterbottom fight it all the way home for a disappointing 17th placed finish. On the other side of the garage, Davison took over the car after Youlden had no radio contact for the early part of the race. Will and the team did a stellar job to strike a handling balance and come home with a wet sail. The pair had enormous speed at the back end of the race and were able to make a penultimate lap pass on Shane van Gisbergen to annex the final podium position. With a few weeks now until Bathurst, the team goes away from the first of the enduros feeling quietly confident as to their chances at the Mountain.

Ford Performance Vehicles - the performance arm of Ford in Australia - announced a high-profile brand ambassador at Phillip Island in Socceroo and former Liverpool EPL star, Harry Kewell.Kewell - who has just signed for the new season of the A-League with Melbourne Victory - was on hand to announce the partnership - in the same weekend Ford Performance Racing stepped out in a striking black livery in honour of the GT Black Edition. The Socceroo had the blue carpet rolled out for him - getting a taste of what the Island had to offer when he got in the

passenger’s seat of the Orrcon Steel-backed Trading Post FPR Falcon with L&H 500 pole-sitter, Will Davison.

Kewell was shocked at the forces placed on his body on board the FPR Falcon. It gave the new ambassador a different kind of work out and an experience he will never forget. The self-confessed revhead is expected to ignite the A-League when he joins the popular Melbourne Victory squad as it’s marquee player for the 2011/2012 season.

FPV’S JUST WILD ABOUT... HARRY

The Orrcon Steel-backed FPR Falcons sported a tweaked livery for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island. The addition of black to the regular blue livery in deference to the recently released FPV GT Black Edition - of which there are only 125 examples available.Drivers also wore specially commissioned black race suits - which added an extra element of toughness to the team’s look!

WILL POWERS ON

Mark Winterbottom’s partner for the upcoming Armor All Gold Coast 600 in Surfers Paradise, Will Power - has secured his first major Title of 2011 - being awarded the Mario Andretti Trophy as the leading driver on road courses during the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series Season.

Power is engaged in a thrilling battle for the overall IZOD IndyCar Series Title with Dario Franchitti. Franchitti lost the lead in the Championship in Japan after being involved in a four car pileup.

Heading into the final two races of the season, Power leads the Series by 11 points. The season wraps up the weekend before the Armor All Gold Coast 600 in Las Vegas.

With Power being born and bred in Toowoomba, there are sure to be plenty of fans heading to Surf-ers Paradise to cheer their boy on as he jumps aboard the #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon!

Both Luke Youlden (#6) and Steven Richards (#5) did an awesome job for the Orrcon

Steel-backed FPR team. Bathurst is the next major assignment for the pair!

Mid-race arts & craft at FPR? No, the team had to resort to old-fashioned methods when the radio earpiece in Luke Youlden’s helmet had a wire fail and the team was unable to communicate with him. All did an exceptional job to get around the problem and land the #6 Orrcon Steel-backed Trading Post FPR Falcon on the podium.Make sure you stay between the lines, boys!
