GMRC, a 501(C)(3), is the sole recipient of 100% of the funds solicited and raised for this event. Participation fees must be submitted prior to the event to ensure participation.

The Hamilton Dragon Boat Festival is part of a larger Chinese cultural tradition that goes back 2,400 years. It began on the life-sustaining riverbanks in the valleys of southern China as a fertility rite performed to ensure bountiful crops. The first participants held their celebration on the fifth day of the lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The race was held to avert misfortune and encourage the rains needed for prosperity. The object of their race was the dragon!

PLEASE SUBMIT A ROSTER BY August 25, 2017. All teams require a drummer, a steersperson (new teams will be assigned a steersperson; experienced teams may elect to register their own steersperson) and 15 to 20 paddlers (15 paddlers minimum). It is also suggested to have additional paddlers signed up as alternates. A full team consists of 25 members. All team members must be at least 12 years of age to paddle. Team rosters and waivers must be received in the office by August 25, 2017. Team members will not be allowed to practice unless waivers have been submitted. (Teams who do not comply with this requirement will be cancelled with no refund.)

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY, UNDER THIS AGREEMENT YOU ARE RELINQUISHING CERTAIN RIGHTS AND ACCEPTING CERTAIN OBLIGATIONS.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY, INDEMNITY, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK

IN CONSIDERATION of being given the opportunity to participate in any and all Great Miami Rowing Center (GMRC) activity, including scheduled, supervised club activities, special events and registered regattas (the “Activity”), during the dates of the programming for which I am registered, I, for myself, my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin: 1. I ACKNOWLEDGE, agree and represent that I understand the nature of Rowing, Paddling and Dragon Boat Activities, both on water and land based, and that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Activity. 2. I FULLY UNDERSTAND that: (a.) ROWING, FITNESS AND WATER SPORTS ACTIVITIES INVOLVE RISKS AND DANGERS of serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis and death (“Risks”); (b.) these Risks and dangers may be caused by my own actions, or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Activity, the condition in which the Activity takes place, or the negligence of the Release named below; (c.) there may be other risks and social and economic losses either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I FULLY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSSES, COSTS, AND DAMAGES I incur as a result of my participation in the Activity. 3. I AGREE AND WARRANT that I will examine and inspect each Activity in which I take part and that, if I observe any condition which I consider to be unacceptably hazardous or dangerous, I will notify the proper authority in charge of the Activity and will refuse to take part in the Activity until the condition has been corrected to my satisfaction. 4. I HEREBY RELEASE, discharge, and covenant not to sue GMRC, the Regatta or event sponsor, their administrators, directors, agents, officers, volunteers and employees, other participating regatta organizers, any sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises, on which the Activity takes place, (each considered one of the Releasees herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses or damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the Releasee or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations; and I further agree that if, despite this release and waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement, I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I WILL INDEMNIFY, SAVE AND HOLD HARMLESS each of the Releasees from any litigation expenses, attorney fees, loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as a result of such claim, to the fullest extent permitted by law. 5. I AGREE that I will bear full financial responsibility for equipment damaged while in my care during the Activity. 6. I AGREE to allow GMRC and its affiliate companies to use photos from this event in its promotional materials and print and digital communications. 7. I AGREE that I am capable of swimming a minimum of 50 meters or treading water for a minimum of 10 minutes. I HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, fully understand its terms, understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it and have signed it freely and without any inducement or assurance of any nature and intend it to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law and agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid, the balance, notwithstanding, shall continue in full force and effect.

Your team registration/sponsorship supports the Great Miami Rowing Center/Great Miami Crew in providing scholarships to youth and adaptive athletes, and funding capital improvement projects on the existing boathouse structure.

The Great Miami Rowing Center (GMRC) dba as Great Miami Rowing Foundation is devoted to supporting recreational use of the Great Miami River in Hamilton through collaborative infrastructure development and scholarship funding. By using the sport of rowing as a cornerstone, GMRC encourages use of the river for daily sport, yearly events and all types of athletic recreation. We are a not for-profit community devoted to the growth and prosperity of Hamilton’s Historic downtown, as well as the health and wellness of area residents of all ages and abilities, who want to safely use the river for competition, fitness and recreation. GMRC was founded in 2007 by a group of dedicated volunteers as part of the Hamilton Vision 2020 initiative to return economic prosperity and development to Hamilton’s Downtown corridor. The youth racing team was our initial focus, which provided inspiration for collegiate, post-collegiate, masters, and adaptive rowing programs. Since our foundation, Hamilton has heartily embraced the sport of rowing. The activity on the river has fostered civic pride, through demonstrating the potential for development of the waterfront properties. With the spectacular support of private donors, volunteers, and municipal entities, the organization has grown from its humble beginnings in a gravel parking lot with a chain link fence to a full scale professional sports club. GMRC continues as a registered 501(c)(3), which is operated by a board of directors including local business leaders, rowing experts, and life-long residents. Our mission remains to bring economic growth and impact our community through increased usage of our greatest asset, the Great Miami River.

GMRC, located on the Great Miami River in Hamilton, Ohio, is a place that serves as a beacon of connectivity for all of the residents. The GMRC program aims to emphasize the importance of a diverse experience where adults, kids, and para-rowers can connect through sports, community, and the natural beauty of the river.

Ongoing fundraising efforts aim to advance the Boathouse Project. emersionDESIGN, in partnership with Community Design Alliance (CDA), is working with GMRC to retrofit a decommissioned co-generation power plant located on the riverfront to convert it into a working water based recreation facility. The inventive and imaginative design of this facility is anticipated to transform this existing industrial structure into the heart of Hamilton’s rowing community, while also playing a role in revitalizing and redeveloping the Great Miami River waterfront.
