Carol P. Motley, M.D. Dr. Motley completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is board-certified in Family Medicine and has practiced Obstetrics for most of her career. Dr. Motley has worked in community- based residency programs, the university academic setting, a hospital- owned practice and private practice. In 2014 he was recognized by the USAFP as their Family Physician of the Year and by the AFMRD with a Bronze Level Program Director Recognition Award. He is currently Board Chair and Executive Editor of the Family Physicians Inquiries Network, a national consortium supporting evidence-based medicine and clinical scholarship in Family Medicine graduate medical education programs. Dr. Mott has more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He remains in high demand for peer-review services to multiple journals. Dr. Mott also has traveled the country lecturing at more than 30 conferences and workshops to include his most recent keynote presentation at the USAFP conference in Seattle. Michael Linder, M.D. Dr. Linder earned his medical degree from The University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences. He completed his residency at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center and is board-certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. Dr. Linder has been involved in Family Medicine education for more than 30 years and has experience as a Family Medicine residency program director. He established and served as program director of one of the initial Sports Medicine programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Linder has had faculty appointments at Emory University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of South Alabama where he served as Professor. Cary A. Ostergaard, M.D. Dr. Ostergaard has been a part of resident, medical student and physician assistant student education since 2000. While stationed at Naval Hospital Pensacola from 2000-2008, he served as a resident team leader, assistant program director, and from 2006-2008, as the Program Director/Department Head for the Family Medicine residency. After his final tour in Sicily, he returned to Pensacola as a civilian in 2011 in the position of teaching faculty and student coordinator, overseeing all student rotations in the department. His accolades include Family Medicine Teacher of the Year, 2000-2016; Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine Pensacola Regional Campus Guardian of the Mission Community Faculty Award, 2014-2015; University of Florida School of Physician Assistant Studies Outstanding Clinical Year Instructor Award, 2016. He is a Clinical Assistant professor at the FSU University College of Medicine as well as a Courtesy Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Florida College of Medicine’s School of Physician Assistant Studies. His areas of focus and interest are clinical medicine, student and resident education, and an emphasis on teaching and utilizing procedural skills in a family medicine practice. Baldwin County is just east of Mobile, Ala. and west of Pensacola, Fla., on the I-10 corridor, in the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley Metropolitan Statistical Area (the 8th fastest-growing MSA in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau). Boasting a growing population of 200,000+ with over 35 percent of the county population being between the ages of 18 & 45.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE

The South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Family Medicine Residency participates in ERAS® and will consider only those applicants who apply through the Match process. All applications will be screened for eligibility, and qualified applicants will be offered an interview before the Match deadline. Preference will be given to applicants who have graduated within the past two years.

Applicants also must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment at the PGY-I level:

• Graduate (or anticipated graduate before July 1 of application year) of a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education

• Graduate (or anticipated graduate before July 1 of application year) of a medical school accredited by the American Osteopathic Association

Applicants must have taken USMLE Steps I and II (passed first attempt and score of > 215 preferred) or applicants must have taken Comlex (passed first attempt and score of > 485 preferred). The applicant should have at least one year of continuous and current education (either medical school or post medical school) in the United States.

Our Faculty

Timothy Mott, M.D., FAAFP

Program Director

Dr. Mott attended the University of North Carolina where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology, and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine where he was awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1995.

His postgraduate medical education included an internship and residency in Family Medicine at Naval Hospital Pensacola, Fla., and a Fellowship in Faculty Development (Academics) at the University of North Carolina. He is board-certified in Family Medicine.

While in the Navy, Dr. Mott served in multiple leadership positions to include chair of medical staff quality, credentials, and chief of the medical staff. He finished his Navy career as the Family Medicine Specialty Leader to the Surgeon General. As a physician educator, he served as faculty, director of undergraduate medical education, and residency director.

Dr. Mott deployed in service of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Additionally, he served as the sole medical officer for the Medical Civilian Action Program in Cameroon, supporting the African Partnership Station.

Dr. Mott is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and holds an Associate Professor appointment at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. In 2010 he was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians. He is a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors. He has won multiple teaching awards and has published and lectured widely on various topics including leadership, evidence-based medicine, patient safety, and the relationship of food and disease.
