Whether you are new to GVSU, a Laker beginning a new adventure downtown, or returning to the community, know that we are excited you are here. Please take a moment to review this letter to learn about the living centers and Housing & Residence Life Staff. The community consists of Winter Hall, located at 32 Winter Ave SW, and Secchia Hall, located on 420 W Fulton St., in beautiful downtown Grand Rapids. You have chosen the only on-campus living on the Pew Campus, with one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartment style options with air-conditioning and a kitchen in each unit. Your neighbors are all upperclassmen, but range from transfer to international to to graduate student status. Winter/Secchia is also glad to host a large number of transfer and international students as well as guests of the university. You will find a number of services available to residents of Winter/Secchia. The Winter desk is located in the center of the first floor of Winter Hall and provides assistance with keys/access cards, a variety of questions, and package pick up for the entire community. Laundry rooms are available in Tower G of Secchia Hall and on the first floor of Winter Hall. Did you know the Pew Campus has its own exercise room? Students, faculty, and staff have access to the exercise room on the first floor of Winter Hall 24 hours/day! Lastly, there are several vending machines throughout the community and several coffee and meal options available in the Plaza Cafe in DeVos Building C and the Seidman Cafe. Of course the options within the city seem endless and are accessible via the Rapid bus system, which is free with your student ID card. You may notice that Winter Hall is the hub of our community. Please make yourself comfortable coming to Winter to use the great room for studying, playing pool, or relaxing! In addition there are several meeting rooms for collaboration, group exercise, etc.. Programming will be facilitated by our staff throughout the year to help build community and compliment your learning. Be on the lookout for more info! WHAT IS AN RA?

Elizabath Renney Winter 2nd Floor

[email protected] Elizabeth Renney is an Economics and Accounting double

major. She works at Grand Rapids Parking Services as a security booth attendant. She is also the treasurer of the Seidman Investment Portfolio Organization. She loves

dogs, coffee, swimming, investing, watching TV, and baking. She is a returnee to the downtown community but this is

her first year as an RA.

Kevin Bitri Winter 3rd Floor

[email protected] Kevin is a third year undergraduate student majoring in

Advertising and Public Relations. This is his first year as a Resident Assistant, and also his first year living on

Downtown Campus. Kevin works as a student assistant for the College of Education, as well as a library page back home in Clinton Township, MI. He is a huge book worm and hopes to one day work for a publishing company.

Please feel free to stop by and talk anything from books to reality TV with him!

Michael Stevenson Winter 4th Floor

[email protected] Mike is a Junior at Grand Valley majoring in Marketing. He

is a second year RA from Canton Michigan where he graduated from Canton High School. He is an Eagle Scout,

a massive Rock and Roll fan/concert enthusiast, vinyl record collector, and likes to golf

Each RA is a student staff member who lives in the community with you. Collectively, they bring years of diverse experiences at Grand Valley and are happy to serve as peer mentors to you. In addition, they provide opportunities for

community building and co-curricular learning.

Claire Cavarretta Secchia Towers A-F [email protected]

Claire is a junior at Grand Valley studying Biomedical Sciences with a minor in General Business. This is her

second year as a Resident Assistant, but her first year in Winter/Secchia! She is originally from Tinley Park, IL, but

considers Grand Rapids her current home. She is passionate about justice, health care reform, and serving others. She is actively involved in Campus Ministries @

GVSU as well as a free medical clinic, Oasis of Hope Center, and Bridge Street House of Prayer. She loves coffee

and has been to almost every coffee shop in GR!

Antewnet Melton Secchia Towers G-L

[email protected] Antewnet Melton is a transfer and non-traditional student majoring in Secondary Education and English with a minor

in Mathematics. She is heavily involved in various organizations on campus, including: TRIO Teacher Prep, African Student Council and Niara. Antewnet serves as a

peer mentor for future students and will begin her teaching practicum in fall. She has also held various

positions on campus in Campus Dining and as a Tutor Counselor for TRIO Upward Bound. Never hesitate to

reach out or just say "hello" in passing!

Likes: coffee, trap music, travel, intentional conversations, education and movements to reduce disparities (in

education.

Unless otherwise approved, move-in occurs on Thursday,

August 22 from 8:30am-4:00pm When you arrive, you will come to the First Floor Lounge in Winter

Hall. You will receive your key and access card upon arrival.

Parking Services will be available for you to purchase your yearly

pass and you will need to immediately move your vehicle to

the Winter or Secchia lot after unloading your vehicle in Winter

Half Circle.

FLOOR MEETINGMandatory floor meetings will occur between 7:00-9:00PM on Thursday, August 22 in Winter

Hall. Your floor meeting time will be announced during check-in

and also emailed to you.

These short meetings are informational and a good chance to meet your RA and neighbors. Your laundry card will also be

distributed at this meeting.

STAFF? Robert Zinger Living Center Director

and condition of the living centers and creating a welcoming community. The LCD selects, trains, and supervises the RA and desk staffs. Lastly, they advise

community programming.

These staff have graduate-level education in student development and want to help you succeed. Please reach out to them with concerns or ideas for

improving the community!

Allendale Campus. He attended Central Michigan University for his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration where he worked in the Mary Ellen

Brandell Volunteer Center. Robert is a Laker For A Lifetime and also worked as a student for his undergraduate alma mater's Office of

Admissions & Records. He is often seen walking his dog (Ellie), cooking, or volunteering with GVSU's Young

Alumni Council.
