UPCOMING BOARD OFFICERS ELECTION

At our September meeting we will be taking nominations for our board for our fiscal year No-vember 2013-2014.

You may have noticed that we were unable to fill two board positions this year, VP Member-ship and VP Service. With these positions left unfilled it doesn't mean the duties associated with these positions goes away, it shifts to other board members to fill the void, and they are now doing double duty.

Please consider throwing your hat into the ring for a board position, even those positions that are currently filled. Last year some board mem-bers continued to serve, but changed positions, so let me know if you are interested in becoming a board member, and the position you are inter-ested in. Remember we have immediate open-ings for VP Membership and VP Service.

At times there were too many people at net control but all of the volunteers did a good job. Rick and Buck will work together to setup a date and time for training for those that have volunteered. November Luncheon Subsidy: Rick reported that the luncheon cost is $25 per person. For the past few years the Club has been subsidizing the event for members, which makes the cost to the members $12.50. Rick, KD6KHJ, requested for a motion to be made to accept the July minutes as printed in the August edition of the Q5. A motion was made and seconded and passed unanimously. Rick informed the group that August is the Club's annual member show and tell and ice cream social. After the presentation the group broke for the ice cream part of the meeting. Buck, AE6DT reported the Ho'olaule'a Days event had 5 volunteers on Saturday and 8 volunteers on Sunday. Even though they were short operators on Saturday the event went well. Those that volunteered received a T-shirt and lunch. Frank, KC6YPV, is heading up this year's Jamboree On-The-Air event for the Boy Scouts. This year's event is to be held on October 19 -20. The group will be at Seabase in Long Beach. Volunteers are needed for the event. Rick reported that the Club also has another event on October 19 which is the Amazing Day Walk. Dave, N6TEB, is in charge of that event and volunteers are needed. If you are interested contact Dave. Rick reported that the Tour De Sewer bike ride will be on October 26. Volunteers are needed for that event, contact Kent K6WCI to volunteer. Meeting Adjourned at 20:33 hours. Respectfully Submitted Bill Heather KB6WKT Secretary

Lions Club's Tour De Sewer moved to October to avoid those winter doldrums and wet weather experienced over the last few years. Touted as the best orga-nized bike ride in the area, the Tour de Sewer offers your choice of interesting 15, 25, 50 and 60 mile fun bike rides, not races. The rides will leave the John Anson Ford Park in Bell Gardens, starting at 7:30 AM. The 60 mile route will proceed north to base of foothills, then turn south on streets to Turnbull Canyon Road, Over the top and into Whittier and return to the bike path to the finish. On the 50 mile course, the only hill is the face of Santa Fe Dam. On the 25 mile course there no hills to climb and descend, the course is relatively flat. The 15 mile

course is flat. WE WILL RIDE RAIN OR SHINE.

Support The course will be marked at each turn. Volunteers will be on the course and at

the park to provide first-aid. Downey Amateur Radio Club will again be providing radio communications over the entire course. Rest stops will be set up along each route with water and refreshments. Roving mechani-cal support will also be provided to assist when needed or to transport stranded cyclists back to the park.

DARC has provided communications for the TDS since its inception. Please contact Kent Savage or Rick Norwood to assist with this event.

September 2013 DX By Mike Gauthier, K6ICS 8-14-2013

September Propagation Outlook The long summer days of July and August has brought high signal absorption. The DX bands have been near-

ly dead. Things should start to pick-up as we approach Fall. Signals should improve on all bands. 160 and 80

meters will remain poor. 60, 40 and 30 meters will indicate a little more life, while 20 through 15 meters will im-

prove greatly. Keep listening for the long path and spot openings. 12-10 meter DXing will improve some during

daylight hours. 17 meters should remain to best DX band again this month. Check current propagation at http://

www.voacap.com/prediction.htm . There have been changes to the website, be sure and check it out.
