ARRL and “National Parks on the Air” This year the ARRL in partnership with the National Parks Service has be-gun the year long “National Parks on the Air” (NPOTA) campaign to cele-brate the 100th anniversary of the National Park System. For one year Hams are encouraged to either activate a unit of the NPS sys-tem, or to chase those that have. Most of the information can be found online at: http://www.arrl.org/npota At our last general meeting some of the members indicated that they have already made contact with one or more Activators. .There was discussion about DARC activating one of the local NPS units, in late Summer or early Fall For those “Chasers”, there is no published list of contact frequencies. It was suggested that we use DX spotting sites instead. The ARRL does have a page that lists the registered Activators and their target dates at: https://npota.arrl.org/nps-events.php

ST. PAUL ISLAND, CY9C. This will be a New Country for 60 Meters. CY9C will be active on all bands, including 60 meters, August 19 to 29. This DXpedition is led by Randy N0TG and Murray WA4DAN. The 11 man team will operate from two island locations for 10 days. The team is very skilled and has experienced operators. It is not the best time of the year for 60 meters, but that is the only time the team was granted permission to activate this NEW COUNTRY on 60 meters. Being in the middle of the summer and with higher noise levels, it may be harder for some stations to get into the log. Remember CY9C wants you in the log as bad as you do. For more information please go to their website at: http://www.cy9dxpedition.com Take their survey for the bands/modes you need for St. Paul Island, along with more DXpedition, Location, and QSL infor-mation. UGANDA, 5X1O. Jonathan, KK7PW is operating as 5X1O until July 8. Activity is on 40, 20, 15 and 10 me-ters using 5 watts. QSL via EA5GL. General Meeting Minutes, 6/2/16 The general club meeting got underway at 1930 hrs, with President Dave Glenn, N6TEB, presiding with about 20 members present, including one prospective new member. Dave asked Kent Savage, K6WCI, to lead the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dave then asked each member to introduce themselves. The topic for the night was on Field Day. As Bill Heather, KB6WKT, could not make it, Dave showed us Bill’s media presentation on Field Day, with some photos of our past setup, plus what to expect for this year. Dave said that this year we will be a 4A setup, with 4 HF stations running on generator power. We also expect Glenn Allen, KE6HPZ, to bring his VHF/UHF station as well. Field Day will once again be at Apollo Park in Downey. This year the emphasis will be on long wire antennas rather than beam antennas on towers. Dave concluded the presentation around 2030 hrs with the approval of the Minutes and Treasurer’s Report, followed by refreshments. Respectfully Submitted John Powell, KF6EOJ, substitute Secretary
