What this entails is a huge savings for your spouse and makes us even family friendlier. Some of you might be thinking, how could we even be more family friendly. Ha! Charge our Spouses only half of the dues and initiation fee that's how. They will still have to attend an Orientation class and meet all of the requirements as stated in our by-laws if they are a new member. If not and she currently is a member, next year they will only have to pay 1/2 of their dues. I get asked a lot by new inquiries if we have a Family Membership and hopefully I can tell them YES YES YES!! With the growing number of female shooters, I think this will be a huge benefit for our club. Instead of paying for a full membership now I think a lot of our new members are just joining by themselves and bringing their wives out with them. Hopefully this will allow some families to add a spouse to their membership and help grow the club. I'd really like to thank the E-Board for coming together on this and I really hope you (our members) will as well. I know this has been talked about for years but has never come to fruition. Here's where I'd say something silly like "Girls just wanna have fun" but as you know I'm better than that!! Now HOPEFULLY, by the time everyone is reading this, Mother Nature has had time to get her act together and it's warm enough to see you on the range! Ty

PIONEER GUN CLUB – APRIL 2014

Dues are due and payable on or before

March 1, 2014 and are delinquent on

April 1, 2014. Anyone who has not paid

their dues before April 1st will have their

gate card turned off and will be charged a

late fee of $25.00.

Renewal Deadline

It's been a busy month so this will be short!! If you have not yet sent your renewals in,

please do so immediately. If something has popped up and funds are short, make sure to

take advantage of our Temporary Withdraw Program. This will allow you to put your

Membership on hold for up to 3 years.

Also please come out and vote on the new By-Laws. One of the changes is a Spousal

Membership. What this entails is a huge savings for your spouse and makes us even

family friendlier. Some of you might be thinking, how could we even be more family

friendly. Ha! Charge our Spouses only half of the dues and initiation fee that's how.

They will still have to attend an Orientation class and meet all of the requirements as

stated in our by-laws if they are a new member. If not and she currently is a member,

next year they will only have to pay 1/2 of their dues.

I get asked a lot by new inquiries if we have a Family Membership and hopefully I can tell them YES YES YES!! With

the growing number of female shooters, I think this will be a huge benefit for our club. Instead of paying for a full

membership now I think a lot of our new members are just joining by themselves and bringing their wives out with

them.

Hopefully this will allow some families to add a spouse to their membership and help grow the club. I'd really like to

thank the E-Board for coming together on this and I really hope you (our members) will as well. I know this has been

talked about for years but has never come to fruition.

Here's where I'd say something silly like "Girls just wanna have fun" but as you know I'm better than that!! Now

HOPEFULLY, by the time everyone is reading this, Mother Nature has had time to get her act together and it's warm

enough to see you on the range! Ty

McBride Road: Thanks to Jennings Enterprise for replacing the

culvert under the road. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Women on Target Event: The Women on Target Event will be

held on September 20th. The cost is $30.00 per person. This is an

Instructional Shooting Clinic that provides a friendly and fun introduction

to recreational shooting. It is aimed primarily at women that are new to

shooting but any lady may participate. The event will include rifle,

shotgun, pistol and archery. Participants may sign up for any or all of these disciplines. Many volunteers will be needed to put this

event on. If you would be willing to help, please contact Jack Smart or Connie Baum. Ladies may sign up now that we have final

approval from the NRA. There will be a limit of 50 participants. Sign up now.

Priority List: The Executive Board is working on the priority list of projects we need to accomplish in the next 1, 2 and 5

years. If you have any special things you would like to see on this list please contact an Eboard member and let them know what it

is. One thing that is being discussed is an increase in dues with the increase amount put in a dedicated fund for the improvement of

the Brickyard range. The funds would be used to bring sewer and water to the range, pave the road and eventually build a new

range. Please let the Executive Board know how you feel about improving the Brickyard range and the dues increase.

By-Laws: The executive Board has updated our By-Laws, Code of Conduct and Range Rules. It is on the web site and included

in this newsletter for your review. There will be a vote to accept them at the April club meeting.

Dues: Your dues were due March 1st: By the time you read this you will be late. There is a late fee of $25.00 for

dues that are not postmarked on or before March 31. If your dues were not postmarked on or before March 31st your gate card

was shut off and remain so until your dues and late fee are paid. If you are a NRA life member you do not have to send in proof of

NRA membership unless you became a life member during the past year. You do have to send in a completed renewal form with

your dues and late fee. Failure to send in your dues, completed renewal form and proof of NRA membership (if you are an

annual member) will result in everything being sent back. It is your responsibility to get it right the first time. Get your

renewal form at one of the ranges, in the newsletter or from the web site.

Renewal Committee: Special thanks to Connie Baum and her renewal crew of Michael Baum, Sharon Dickerson, Teresa

Camp, Ed Camp, Ty Markle, Ed Johosky, J.J. Martin and Pat Casey. These members have all spent many hours over the past few

weeks looking at renewal forms, checks, money orders, membership cards, magazine labels, envelopes and mailing labels in order to

get your new 2014 membership card back to you in a timely manner. While most members were able to successfully complete the

form as requested some felt it was too hard a task to complete. This has resulted in them getting their materials returned to them to

get the required information. Having to return these materials has resulted in the committee doing much more work than is

necessary. The renewal form and your label from your NRA magazine is the only way the club has to keep our records current. At

this time there are still 400 members who

have not been processed. If you are one of

these members please complete the form

the first time, send your magazine label and

be sure to include the late fee. Also, please

thank the committee members for all the

time they have spent and will spend on this

year’s renewal.

. Connie and Crew

Small Berm: Thanks to Rick Lance for constructing the small berm in front of the target frames at the 100 yard line on Rifle

Range #1. Also, thanks to Joe Tapko for putting down the grass seed. The berm was constructed to protect the target stands that

allow the target frames to be easily raised and lowered. Unfortunately, someone thought it would be great sport to see if they could

shoot them up so the berm was needed to protect them. It’s too bad we have members like that but we do. It will be muddy until the

grass gets to growing so please be patient.

Shooting Season: Warm weather is rapidly approaching and many of you are just waiting for the chance to get out doors and

go to the range for some shooting. This is a good time to review the Always Rules of Safe Shooting. 1. Always keep your muzzle

pointed in a safe direction (at the back stop or berm). 2. Always keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot (you

are ready to shoot only when you sights are on the target). 3. Always keep your gun unloaded until ready to use (you are ready to use

when the range is safe and you are on the firing line). Always abide by the rules and no one will be injured and nothing will be shot

that you did not intend to shoot.

PPC/Bullseye Building: Work is slowly proceeding on the building. The electrical is almost done and sheetrock is being

hung. Help is needed taping and mudding the sheetrock. Thanks to Bob Hudson, Richard Muir, Joe Tapko, Bob Harris, Richard

Muir, Terry Wright, James Smoots and George Monahan for the help they did last month. Come out and give them a hand with the

work.

Signing in: Many people are still not signing in when they come to the range. The range rules state that you must sign in when

you get to the range before beginning to shoot and sign out before leaving. All of your guests are also required to sign in and out.

Please follow the rules. Failure to do so may result in you being asked to leave the range.

Rifle Ranges: Don’t for get to sound the horn and turn on the lights and bells before going down range. Remember you

cannot handle firearms while people are down range and/or the bells and lights are on. These procedures are in place to protect our

members and guests (including you) so please review them and follow them at all times—even if you are the only one on the

range. You never know when someone else will drive up and start handling guns and/or shooting. No one wants to report to your

family that you were shot (or that you shot someone) because the rules were not followed.

Monday Trap Shooting: The Monday evening trap shoot will begin on April 8th. We will start about 5:00 pm and shoot

until we are out of ammo or get tired. Just plain fun—no competition. Lots of BS. Beginners welcome. Come and join the fun.

PIONEER GUN CLUB – APRIL 2014

Pioneer Lanyards are back! The Junior Program is again selling lanyards with the Pioneer Gun

Club on them. These are great for hanging your membership card on

and allowing you to keep it visible when on club property; yet easy to

take off when you leave.

This is a fund raiser for the junior program. Lanyards cost $5.00 each

and are available on meeting nights and also at the outdoor range.

Thanks for supporting our junior marksmanship program!

Call Ed Camp if you are interested in them, 816-333-7559.

Shooting season is moving into full speed this month and the usual

admonitions must be made over and over and over. One of the

fundamental rules of shooting is ‘know your target AND WHAT

LAYS BEYOND IT.’ That is not a difficult concept to

understand, or is it?? Take a look at the 2 photos of range #1. A

couple questions come to mind for these shooters.

1) Were they ignoring ‘what lays beyond’ the 100 yard target frames they set up at station 4 & 6?

2) Gross indifference to the destruction of the 200 yard target frames their bullets would impact.

3) or perhaps they were so ignorant of ballistics that they thought the bullets would miraculously fall harmlessly to the

ground once they struck 100 yard targets and not damage the 200 yard frames directly in line with their shooting???

Range #1 was not crowded that day, there were many open benches to shoot at the 100 yard distance WITHOUT sitting

additional frames to be in line with the 200 yard targets. Of course the reason was to shoot on 1 & 200 yard targets from

one bench. OK, no problem. target #2 at 100 yards and target #3 at 200 yards was open to use without setting up

additional 100 yard frames. And finally, I do not recall ever seeing these shooters helping repair damage done by this

kind of indifferent shooting.

ALSO!! Friday the 21st of March an observant club member had to intercede with some shooters on range #5, a pistol

& .22 rifle ONLY range, who were starting to ‘sight in’ their AR platform center fire rifles. There have been numerous

postings in this newsletter and in dozens of flyers around the club house, at the sign in table, on the door, at the ranges,

in the meetings and on and on. CENTER FIRE RIFLES ON RANGES #1 & #2 ONLY. Again, is that concept too

difficult to understand???

Children must be supervised at all times while on the firing line. The reason is their mental maturity to be around or

using firearms in a safe and responsible manner. It seems to me that there is a serious question regarding chronological

age and mental age of some ‘adult’ shooters.

Our Junior Marksmanship program is going very well. We want

to thank those who have recently donated to the program. It is

greatly appreciated and is helping us acquire more equipment for

use in matches and training. We recently obtained five new

spotting scopes for them and are having competition spotting

scope stands built for them.

Three of our young shooters are very near to completing their Distinguished Expert Awards. They are Desire Libeer,

Devin Schwindt and Noah Austin. Several others are entering the sharpshooter level of shooting.

On March 1st we had are first ever air-rifle team competition in Ozark, Missouri. Four of our young shooters formed a

team and the parents drove them to Ozark for the match. Two of these young shooters had just gotten their air rifles 3

days before and so had very little practice with them. The team placed 10th out of 13 teams and made a good showing in

the individual scores. The team members were: Noah Austin, Devin Schwindt, Spencer Rice and Kelley Stone. I will

say that the team looked very sharp with their new sweatshirts and logos on the back. These four young shooters are

also going to be shooting in hi-power rifle events so you will be hearing more about them. Here are a few pictures

showing them at the air rifle match:

The drive back Saturday night was interesting. We hit an ice storm about 30 miles north of Ozark and it was so bad that

the wipers on Darcey Schwindt’s SUV froze and broke just south of Harrisonville. My wife, Theresa, and I had to keep

stopping and clearing the ice off our wipers and scraping the window clear to be able to continue, this was even with the

defroster working full blast. Kelley and her family stayed with family members and came back the next day. That’s all

for now from the “PIONEER SHARPSHOOTERS”!

Smallbore Shooting by Ed Camp

If you look on the calendar we are starting Smallbore Rifle events on the second Saturday of each month. This month,

April, will be more of an introduction match for those shooters who do not know what to do. These events are open to

adults and young shooters alike. These events will be three position matches; this means shooting in the Standing, Prone

and Kneeling positions. The target will be the USA-50 smallbore 50 foot target. They will be what is preferred to as

3x20 events. Twenty shots in each position. The number of shots will be 60 for record along with sighters.

This will be shot with .22 cal rifles, no scopes with “peep” sights. “Peep” sights are apertures sights at front and back or

aperture sight in the back and a blade in front. You may use a sling in the prone and kneeling position, but not while

standing. For more rules please refer to the NRA Smallbore Rifle Rule Book, this can viewed or down-loaded from the

NRA web site.

If you have questions please call Ed Camp at 816-333-7559 for more information. Starting in May these will be

registered events with the NRA and published for more shooters to attend. We hope to see a few Pioneer members here.

Pioneer used to be a large smallbore event range. If we get enough interest this could expand to 100 yard prone events.

Starting April and running through August the ARA shooting will be on the 4th Sunday of

each month. This is 50 yard .22 caliber bench shooting at very small targets. We shoot 6

sheets of targets with 25 targets on each sheet, making each target sheet worth 2500 points

for a total of 15,000 points. These are registered matches and the scores are entered for

national records.

Come out and try this event! It’s fun and if you thought you could shoot well, you will learn

how much the wind will effect that little bullet.

Well I guess mother nature really is mad at the

Cowboys. Sorry we had to cancel the March

match.

We will try to have our APRIL 5th Match, sign in at 9:30 shooting 10am.

But please check for an e-mail no later than 5pm on Friday before the shoot if we have to cancel.

Any questions please call Lonesome Ryder @ 816-686-3840 or Cherokee at 816-678-7307

Archery Anyone?

Did you know that we have an archery

range at McBride?

We do! We have 2 target butts in the field beside the plinking range, and we also have a 10 target walking archery range that

meanders through the woods. These have mostly been used by the Boy Scouts and YHEC groups.

In 2013 we setup some archery targets during The Club Championship and the Zombie Shoot at the archery range.

Several people shot the targets and seemed to enjoy themselves.

So, I would like to hear from members that would like to join me in starting an Archery Division.

My name is Phil Parks and if you would like to be part of the Archery Division, send an email message to my address,

To all shooters interested in High Power

shooting.

I hope this winter wasn't to hard on everybody

and I hope you are now thinking about shooting

again. I had so much on my mind this winter,

that shooting was the last thing on my list,

including newsletters, which you may have

noticed wasn't being done.

The shooting season is already upon us and we

need to start getting our firearms, ammo, and shooting gear ready. Our first match of the season is to

be held on 26 April 2014. I personally need to inventory targets, paper work, and all items needed to

run the matches, time is running out fast. I also want to try shooting this year in at least one or two

classes, because, George needs more competition this season or he just might win it all again this

year. :-)

I think George wants to run the same League matches again this year to give more people the

opportunity to try shooting HP. You can check the web site for the firearms you can use in these

matches, which basically means any safe rifle. There are five classes which he designed that will

cover most rifles. If you don't have a HP Rifle (military issue type rifle) you can still shoot in the

Hunting Rifle class which is a catch all class where firearms with any optic sight--scopes, dots etc.,

or match sights can be used. Deer rifles, varmint rifles, sniper rifles, bench rest guns, even .22s have

been used. If you can hit a target at 200 yds. with your rifle and it is safe to shoot--bring it and 35

rounds of ammo and you can shoot. We also try to shoot at least two matches at every event and

could shoot 3 if enough people wanted to, bring enough ammo to shoot 2 or 3 matches (35 rds. each).

So, we hope to see many of you out this year for our HP matches. Come out and have some fun and

become more efficient in operating your firearms, because you never know when you may need them.

See you at the match in April.

Al Davies, PGCHP Director.
