COAST VS. COAST: Fresh off a 6-4 road trip, the Dodgers tonight
begin a 10-game homestand with the first of three contests against the
New York Mets. Los Angeles is 27-13 (.675) at home and nearly halfway
through the Dodger Stadium slate, is on pace for its best home record
since moving to the City of Angels (55-27 in 1980). Following this series,
the Dodgers host the Phillies (4) and Brewers (3) before the All-Star
break. Tonight’s contest will also mark the halfway point for both the
Dodgers and Mets.
The Dodgers are televised on ESPN tonight and nationally
tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. on FOX. The club will wear special
uniforms and hats to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow.
The Dodgers tonight start a stretch of 49 consecutive games
where they do not face an NL-West opponent. The next
divisional battle will take place against the Giants on Aug. 31.
Los Angeles is 6-3 against the NL East this season.

LAW ABIDING: The Dodgers have not stolen a base since June 7 and,
according to the Elias Sports Bureau, their 23-game streak without a steal
is the longest streak in modern franchise history (since 1900). Los Angeles
has been thrown out on all six attempted steals during the stolen base
drought. The last Major League team with a longer streak was the
Cardinals, who went 33 games without a steal from June 10-July 20, 2011
and then won the World Series in October.
THIS IS HOWIE DO IT: Howie Kendrick went 1-for-3 with two RBI
on Wednesday and has hit safely in his last seven games, posting a .500
batting average (14-for-28) with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI
during the run, which began on June 25.
Kendrick is batting a team-best .369 with runners in scoring
position (11th, NL) this season (24-for-65).
GREAT D AND SOLID (HOME) RUN GAME: Los Angeles has hit
an NL-best 102 home runs, 12 more than the Cincinnati Reds, and also
continues to lead the circuit with 289 walks (1st MLB), a .332 on-base
percentage and a .433 slugging percentage.
The Dodgers are tied with the Marlins for the best fielding
percentage in the Majors with a .989 mark. That percentage is
on pace to set the top mark in franchise history (.988, 2004), and
Los Angeles has also committed the fewest errors of any big
league team with 32.
Center fielder Joc Pederson leads the team and is tied for fifth
in the National League with 20 home runs. The Rookie of the
Year candidate is just the eighth rookie in baseball history to
reach 20 homers by July 4, joining his hitting coach, Mark
McGwire (28, 1987), Jose Abreu (26, 2014), Al Rosen (25,
1950), Wally Berger (22, 1930), Bob Allison (21, 1959), Albert
Pujols (21, 2001) and Dave Kingman (20, 2972).

GET HIM A WIN: Dodger ace and reigning National League MVP
Clayton Kershaw has dropped three consecutive games for the first time
in his Major League career, despite the fact that he has posted a 3.15 ERA,
limited the opposition to a .219 average and struck out 28 against just
three walks in that span. Good luck may come in the form of an outing
against the Mets, as Kershaw is 5-0 with a 1.62 ERA (8 ER/44.1 IP) in
seven career starts against New York. At Dodger Stadium, the left-hander
is 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA (1 ER/23.0 IP) in three starts against the Mets. The
Dodgers have never lost to the Mets when Kershaw has taken the mound.
Kershaw leads the National League with 140 strikeouts and is on
pace to shatter his career high of 248 Ks. The three-time Cy
Young Award winner also ranks among the NL leaders in
innings pitched (107.0, 4th), opponents’ batting average (.218,
8th) and WHIP (1.04, 9th).
Dodger pitchers rank third in the Majors with a 3.27 ERA, while
leading the NL in strikeouts (695) and ranking second on the
circuit in WHIP (1.18).
WHAT A DEAL: The Dodgers are celebrating Independence Day
weekend with a three-day ticket special that began this morning. As part
of the special, all reserve level tickets are 50 percent off for the game on
Wednesday, July 8 against the Phillies while supplies last. The first 40,000
fans in attendance that evening will receive a Hello Kitty Plush presented
by Time Warner Cable. Complete details can be found by visiting
www.dodgers.com/special.
In addition to the ticket special, the club is running merchandise
sales this holiday weekend, as all headwear will be $10 off
Friday through Sunday and logo baseballs, fan hands and mini
bats are 1 for $6, 2 for $11 or 3 for $15 over the series.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB!: Yesterday, the Dodgers began the
international signing period with a bang, signing nine players, including
four ranked in Fangraphs.com’s scoutboard 2015 International Prospects
list: Yadier Alvarez (No. 1), Starling Heredia (No. 12), Ronny Brito
(No. 15) and Oneil Cruz (No. 33). The Dodgers signed six players from
the DR and one player each from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
The flurry of additions to the minor league system didn’t stop
there as the Dodgers swung two separate trades yesterday, one
with Toronto and one with Atlanta. The deals netted the
Dodgers four prospects: right-handed pitchers Caleb Dirks and
Chase DeJong, infielder Tim Locastro and outfielder Jordan
Paroubeck. In exchange, the Dodgers dealt away four
international signing slots: 27, 57, 87 and 117. Dirks, DeJong
and Locastro will report to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga while
Paroubeck will head to Arizona to continue rehab on a minor
quad injury.
Also yesterday, the Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher
Brandon League for assignment. League had missed the entire
season with a right-shoulder impingement.
GET READY TO PARTY!: Dodger Stadium will celebrate our
independence in style tomorrow as both a 4th of July Postgame Musical
Performance and Fireworks Show presented by Kurios From Cirque Du
Soleil will take place on the field. Fans are invited to enjoy a patriotic
musical performance by the USO Show Troupe immediately following the
game and once night falls, Dodger fans can enjoy the best July 4th
fireworks show in Los Angeles. In addition, the National Anthem will be
performed by U.S. Coast Guard Second Class Petty Officer Mike Dalager,
accompanied by Grand Funk Railroad guitarist Bruce Kulick.
#ASGWORTHY: The polls have closed in the 2015 All-Star voting and
the Dodgers will find out Sunday if a miraculous surge gave them a
starting player elected to the Mid-Summer Classic July 14 at Great
American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The reserves for the contest will be
announced late afternoon Monday on ESPN and several Dodgers have put
up strong cases, including Adrian Gonzalez, Howie Kendrick, Yasmani
Grandal, Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, Justin
Turner and Joc Pederson.
