For preparing knowledge management product in form of brochure and thematicpamphlets on important activities undertaken in the project, Mitigating Poverty in

Western Rajasthan (MPOWER). The objective is to showcase the activities and propagate

for'replication further in other locations. The document shall be concise with success story,

photographs and statistical data.

Background

(A)Mitigating Poverty in Western Rajasthan (MPOWER)

MPOWER is the ongoing livelihood project of GoR funded by IFAD (International fund forAgriculture Development) and co- funded by SRTT ( SirRatan Tata Trust). The project aims

to reduce poverty through mitigating risk and enhance livelihood of the community. The

project falls in the arid and semi-arid region of the Rajasthan where the habitation is scattered

and the region facing continuous drought. The eight blocks of six Districts ( Baap& Balesar-

Jodhpur, Baitu- Barmer, Sankra- Jaisalmer, Sanchore- Jalore, Bali- Pali, and Aburoad&Pindwada- Sirohi) in Jodhpur division is piloted with this innovative project which is

targeting nearly 1 Lakh poor household to come out of poverty. The project lunched in 2009

for aperiod of six years which has been subsequently extended and ended on December 31,

20i7. Around 4,730 SHGs covering nearly 51,000 households have benefitted from the

various project interventions under MPOWER.Third party Impact Assessment Study and

Project Closing Review Report for the MPOWER project is also being undertaken byCmF.CmF is an associated organization of Tata Trust is the knowledge and resource supportpartner in MPOWER. CmF, through its team placed at Jodhpur and block level has

supported the FNGOs in planning and roll out of the livelihood intervention in agricultureand goat based livelihood and also in the institution building aspect in MPOWER.

(B) Centre for microfinance (CmF):

The Centre for microfinance (CmF) was set up in 2007. It is acting as nodal agency for the

SSV initiative of Sir Ratan Tata Trust. CmF also provide technical support to the SSV fieldprojects and works to mainstreaming the learning of SSV field practices in the largemicrofinance sector in Rajasthan through different partnership with Government and other'stakeholders. Towards this, CmF works as a resource agency, providing technical andcapacity building support to the non-profit Organization in the state. It also supportsinnovative ideas, which seek to increase outreach of microfinance services to undeservedregion and population. Another core activity of CmF is to serve as a knowledge hub onmicrofinance to address knowledge gaps in the sector. Networking and promotingcollaboration among various stakeholders to further the microfinance sector in the state isanother core objective of CmF. CmF works on building the cadre of Human resource
