Introduction
This Network Directory is part of the effort by the Northwest RegionalEducational Laboratory School Improvement Program to promote communicati^namong educational professionals about school improvement. Specifically, the
Directory is designed to provide information for networking among schoolsinvolved in systematic, long-term research-based school improvement efforts.
This Directory is based on information provided by school personnel. Data
were collected through an extensive questionnaire sent in the spring of 1988
to all schools that were using the Onward to Excellence research-based schoolimprovement process on or before August 1, 1987.
In the following pages, the schools are organized alphabetically by level. To
assist Directory users, two appendices are provided:
o A list of practice clusters from Effective Schooling Pzactices: A
Research Synthesis (NWREL 1984). The numbers of these practice
clusters are listed in each entry under "Selected Practice Clusters."
o An index of schools organized by goal content are ("reading", "math",
etc.).
A number of people were involved in the preparation of this Directory. Andy
Sommer developed the initial database format; NWREL School Improvement
Program Director Dr. Robert E. Blum provided ongoing assistance and support;and Linda Gipe, Valerie Osbourn and Elizabeth Jacobs all contributed to data
and word processing.
All schools listed in this Directory will receive copies, thus gaining accessto a large and growing network of schools actively involved in school
improvements. It is intended that this Directory will be updated annually, incorporating further information about schools as they work to improve
student perfomrance.
