What kind of document did you collect?

This is a formal assessment of Multiplication Problems. The students get one at the end of each Friday and they enter them to compete with the rest of the 3rd graders in the school.

What does this document show?

This document shows how many multiplication problems the students were able to answer correctly in one minute. It also shows what “club” or set of numbers the students are able to multiply by i.e. student three is in the fours club, she can tackle numbers multiplied by four.

Reflection: What are your thoughts/opinions about this document?I used to enjoy doing these when I was in grade school but now that I’m learning about how to properly teach the students mathematics, I don’t really see a meaningful need for these kinds of sheets. This test doesn’t really show that a student understand multiplication. It shows that the student can memorize multiplication facts. However, student three did draw a picture to check for understanding.
