Part I: Read the novel. Annotate it as you read – I expect you to write in your book (if you have a problem with that, write on sticky notes and stick them directly to the page). You will turn in the physical book on the 1st day that you have English I. You will receive a grade for annotations.

Annotation simply means that you react to what you read. Underline/highlight all vocabulary words from attached assignment. Highlight facts that you believe are important to remember. Record your opinions directly on the page (side, top, bottom) as things happen to surprise you. Predict what might happen next; label what you believe to be foreshadowing. It is not required that you write on EVERY page. Having a few notes and opinions scattered through each chapter is enough. Make sure to underline the textual evidence that you refer to on Part II part of the assignment.

Part II: PROJECT – After reading the bookYou will complete the following. MUST BE WRITTEN IN INK (BLUE OR BLACK). DO NOT TYPE YOUR RESPONSES. All must be in your own handwriting. Print the attachment; write on it; bring it to school to turn in on first day of class (you can bring it on Book Day or the first day of class). Make sure your name is on the top page and that the pages are stapled together.

Make sure to proofread your responses. As this is a high school class that carries high school credit, your work is expected to be at 9th grade level.
