Do You Pray with Your Umbrella Open?by Bonnie Barker

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. I heard my Pastor tell a story about a drought a few months ago. It really made me search myself to see if I was praying like I should be. The story was told like this…. Many, many years ago in a small rural village a huge drought came. It was very bad. Without the rain farmers had no crops, animals were dying and the people were just about at deaths door themselves. They were scared and didn’t know what to do. One man suggested that they spread the word to all the neighboring farms to gather and pray that the good Lord above would send rain. He said surely if so many would gather to pray, the Lord would listen. It took several days to get the message out, but finally people started to show up to pray. About 12 men were already there telling each other stories about how the drought had affected them when one looked up and started laughing. Then one after another the other men looked up too. All of them smiled or laughed at what they saw. A few yards down the road the men saw another man making his way to pray. He looked rugged and tired just like the other men, but there was something different about him. In his hand he was carrying an umbrella. The men thought that was hilarious since they hadn’t seen rain in months. By the time the man carrying the umbrella reached the others they were all just staring at him with this dumbfounded look on their faces. Finally one spoke up and asked him, “Why in the world would you carry an umbrella?” The one man looked at him and said simply, “Are we not meeting to pray for rain?” So now the question I have for you is: Do you pray with your umbrella open? Too often we pray for God to help us, but we don’t believe that He will actually help while we are praying. How are we to expect the Lord to help if we don’t really believe while we pray? Are you one of the twelve men who met to pray for rain, but didn’t come prepared? Or are you the one lonely man that believed that his Lord would give him what he asked for so he came prepared with his umbrella? Every time I start to pray I remember this story and I open my umbrella. The Lord has answered my

We are from all nations under the sun. We have the blood of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America flowing in our veins. We are a proud people, we are ONE NATION, under GOD, indivisble with Liberty and Justice for all. We are not afraid to fight for what we believe. This has been proven many times, at Gettysburg, Pearl Harbor, Vietnam and many other places. We come from all walks of life; country and city, we are AMERICANS. Now, our way of life is being threatened, by enemies foreign and domestic. Truth, Justice and the American way is being invaded by beliefs we do not agree with. We don't all look alike, we don't all act alike, but, we are all AMERICANS. Our people, some are poor, some are rich and many in between, but we are ONE NATION! One Nation that believes in GOD, one NATION that will be strong again. We are citizens of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA! God bless America.

Air Raidby Dr. Barbara Marrani Weber

The story was given to me by my Aunt Maria: During World War II, she was the director and only caretaker of a children’s home in a small town in Germany. Her kindergarten program had often been disrupted by sirens, announcing incoming warplanes. When this happened Aunt Maria had to leave the house immediately and take the children to a cellar across the street which served as a bunker. Each child was very well trained for these emergency situations. Every morning my Aunt started her day with prayer and asked the Lord for the children’s divine protection. But then came a day, they would never forget. When the group heard the wailing of the sirens, they had to run again to their safety shelter. But this time everything was different. As soon as they had arrived at their corner in the shelter, a bomb hit the building. Everything was shaking in a terrible noise. It felt like they were losing ground. The brick walls on each side of the stairway started to cave in and part of the ceiling broke down. The building around them

began to collapse- it was a very frightening experience. Shock and confusion followed. But my Aunt kept her peace; she always knew what to do in every situation. I admired her for that. Aunt Maria and the children cried out to God for help and thanked him for their protection. She had taught them numerous times about prayer when she read the biblical stories to them. The miracle happened. The moment they started praying, the Lord’s angels came in and the group witnessed something incredible. The angelic helpers prevented the cellar from a total collapse; they also prevented the entrance from being blocked by placing an invisible blanket underneath the ceiling which was also covering the walls- no more debris fell down. Everybody was standing there in ‘awe’. Then finally, the sirens sounded “all clear” and they all could safely escape and go back to the day-care center which had not been touched by the bomb. None of the children was hurt. They all were praising the Lord. Their joy was unspeakable.

The Acorn and the Leafby Stacey Evans (from Unending Promises devotional)

It was a harder day than most. An unimaginable and seemingly impossible task, coupled with high emotions and a few poor decisions, landed me in a “shoulda, woulda, coulda” situation.” What was done was done. There was nothing more that I could do but to spend quiet time with God and give the situation to Him. In a distant parking spot of a local park, I closed my eyes and began to pray, “God, I give you this situation and I give you the glory and the honor to take it and make it Yours. Work out Your plan, dear Lord. I pray in Jesus’ name that you break the hold of my enemies and renew my strength and be my shield.” The prayer felt right and the words flowed from my heart with ease; however, my mind didn’t really wrap around the concept. As I sat there in quiet desperation, I turned to Psalms 1 and read the passage aloud: Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked…. Again, the words flowed from my mouth with great conviction. Still, there was a hollow feeling within my heart longing for divine intervention. I knew that my heart was in the right place. I knew I had done everything I could; however, I longed for the comfort that only God could give me. I wanted a “word” from Him, personally. At that moment, God said to me “let’s take a walk.” I hesitated at first but realized He was pushing me to a place where He could speak and I would listen. I locked the car after I stepped onto the pavement and began walking along the path. The park wasn’t at all what you would imagine as a typical park. It was more of a roadside refuge nestled among several subdivisions. Nothing was typical about this walk – I had on my work outfit along with my 2 ½ inch heel boots but I pressed on to find the answer I so desperately needed. The water flowing from the stream caught my eye. I debated whether to stop and settle for this as my solace as I was unsure of my time and God’s calling. But He urged me to continue on. I felt Him saying, “there’s something greater.” I was amazed that within just a short distance into the woods, the sounds of the passing cars and the

busyness of the day were drowned out by the leaves crunching beneath my feet, squirrels foraging, and the trees blowing in the wind. It was in that moment that God said to me, “Take a look around. THIS is mine…this is what I created. All of this came about through the works of my hands. Unimaginable and impossible tasks are what I am all about. I created the heavens and the earth and I can take care of whatever you will give to me.” I reached down and picked up an acorn and God said to me, “Inside this tiny shell is a tree. In this small seedling, therein lies the power to grow a strong and mighty tree – one with roots that go deep into the ground and provide shelter to animals and shade to you.” I finally “got it.” It wasn’t about me trying to live in the “shoulda, woulda, coulda.” It was about truly giving God the ability to take hold of the situation and use it to His glory. Yes, I can learn from the situation and grow, but God is the only one that can make it into what it really needs to be. He is the only one that can take a situation; whether present or past, and work it out. I picked up the acorn and the leaf as a reminder but God told me I wasn’t done. He told me to open up Psalm 1 and read it again. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Friends, you will have times when you try your best to do whatever it is that is put before you. The devil; however, always attacks what he does not like. If he sees that you are doing God’s will and abiding with God, he will try and trip you up. God brought home Psalm 1 to me by taking me for a walk and getting me into the world HE created to see exactly what those verses meant. Keep doing right by God. You are like the acorn that has the tree within. When you continue to do His work and look to Him for guidance, you are planted like a tree with strong roots by a stream of water

that never runs dry. And, though he might try, the ways of the devil will be like the leaves that fall off the tree and crunch beneath our feet in God’s sight. Stay strong and know that God is your strength. Call upon Him and He will watch over you.

Power of the Crossby Samuel C. Brown, Evangelist

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. I Corinthians 2:2 What I want to write about is how do we reach the lost for Christ? The key is the Cross of Christ. There is Power in the preaching of the Cross. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. I Corinthians 1:18The Book of Acts tells of the Day of Pentecost, when Peter preached to the multitude. And scripture says they were pricked at there hearts. They asked " what must we do?" Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38It goes on to say that they gladly received the word, and 3,000 souls were added to the church. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles 'doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:41-42 How was this accomplished? Through the power of the gospel- the message of the cross. There is Peace in the Preaching of the Cross. And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace.Romans 10: 15I remember before I got saved, and God began working on me . I remember, for awhile I had trouble sleeping. I lived across from the train tracks, and the train would

come through at night. I would hear the train whistle and wake up thinking the church had been raptured, and I had been left. After I got saved in March of 2004, I slept peacefully for the first time in months. This is because I found peace in Christ. There is peace in the cross of Christ. There is Provision in the Preaching of the Cross. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 When you accept Christ, you receive eternal life. Jesus is referred to in Scripture as Living Water, and The Bread of Life. Bread and water are food provision that a person needs to sustain life. Jesus gives spiritual life- life everlasting. We are to go and proclaim the gospel- the good news, and the key to preaching the gospel is the preaching of the cross!

A Treasure Gary McVay

I met Gary McVay several years ago and was extremely impressed when I listen to him sing “The Lighthouse”. I have shared the stage with Gary for benefit singings. When I finished writing the song “The Brave American Soldier” I thought of Gary’s studio for the recording. I spent many evenings enjoying Gary and the others at the Smoky Mountain Jubilee theatre in Pigeon Forge Tn. I feel God puts people together for a reason. You never know when you meet someone what is in store for the future. For me the great Gospel music I have enjoyed Gary sing and playing him on my radio show. Below you will read a few words from Gary.

My name is Gary McVay, the owner of Gloryland Recording Studio. When I started the studio, I dedicated the building and equipment to the Lord Jesus Christ, and promised Him to use it strictly for his glory. I worked for 20 yrs. on stage at the Smoky Mtn. Jubilee where I played steel guitar and sang lead and baritone in the Jubilee Quartet. I decided to step down from the stage to go "full time" in the studio, and plus to sing in churches when I get the opportunity. Gloryland is located in beautiful Pigeon Forge, Tn., close to the Smoky Mountains. I have always kept my prices very reasonable for it has been my goal to help especially the smaller groups, but at the same time offer a radio-ready professional recording! I have state-of-the art equipment (see Services) and use some of the best musicians you'll find anywhere. I'm very proud of the sound that I get, and will help in every way possible to produce a great project. I would love to come to your church and sing. I

do a mixture of Southern Gospel, Country Gospel, Old Hymns and some of the newer music that you hear on radio today. I am also equipped to go out and do "live" recordings at churches or for concerts. I can record solo artists, groups, or choirs. I hope you will consider recording your next project at Gloryland! God Bless, Gary McVay

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

James 1:22 (King James Version)

Linda’s Thoughtsby Linda Hodge

While reading my daily devotional this morning I was inspired to write my article this month. There are often things that I read, see or somehow come into contact with that makes me stop and reflect on things around me. Today was one of those days. If we all take a moment each day to look around us we can see many things which should make us proud of who we are and of what God has given us. I am not talking about monetary things. I am speaking of all Gods beauty in this world. The birds, flowers, colors, etc.. Take a minute and reflect on these things. Think of all the beautiful colors of birds we have. The beautiful and fragrant flowers that we pass by each day. Look at the stars in the sky at night how bright they are. Look at the clouds in the sky and ponder for awhile. Did you lay on your back in the grass as a child and look at the clouds and make out pictures in them? Think of the ocean and how breathtaking the waves are as they hit the shore and how peaceful the young kids are building their sand castles in the sand. Think of the mountains and all their beauty. God has given us so much and we take it all for granted. We pollute the world around us without even a thought of what we are destroying. Now think of this. God gave us life. He breathed breath into us and called us His children. Have you ever stopped to wonder if God is sorry He created us? We use His name in vain. We destroy His creations. We take for granted everything He has given us. I know a lot of people out there do not believe in God but think of this. What if you are wrong and He is the great creator? Where will you be when He comes back? Will He look at you and shake His head or will He welcome you into heaven? I know a lot of you are asking yourselves who am I to ask you this question. Your right. I am not perfect. I make mistakes and I let God down. Just because you call yourself a Christian does not make you perfect. You are still going to fall short of what God expects of you but what is important is that you make the effort to serve Him. I ask you only one thing. Take just one moment and reflect on what God has given you. Think of your

mom, dad, husband, wife and children. Maybe you can recall a time when God was there for you even without your asking Him for help. Maybe you can remember a time when you didn’t believe there was a God. Maybe you still feel this way. I only ask you one thing. Look around you at all you have. Sure, some of us have more than others in material things but I am asking you to count YOUR blessings, not others. I am sure each of you have many blessings if you just stop and think about it. Maybe you are not as rich as your neighbor, maybe your health is not very good. Maybe you have asked God for something that hasn’t materialized. Think of it this way. God knows what tomorrow holds. He knows what is going to happen each and every moment of each day. He knows what you need in your life and what you cannot handle. Sometimes things happen to us that is very hard to realize why but everything that happens to us in our lives each day has a reason. Pray that God will show you that reason and work with Him to make the changes necessary so He can reward you for your continued love and belief in Him. The next time you look at a sunset, a raindrop or a seashell take a minute to thank God for this creation and ask Him to come into your heart and help you to be a better person. I am not saying He will make you rich or give you everything you desire but I will promise He will help you through your hard times and be there for you to listen when you talk to Him. He loves you and wants you to be happy. He will wrap His arms around you and take you down the path He chooses for you if you trust Him. Talk to Him each day and see where He takes you.

BOLETO GRATIS PARA EL MEJOR DE LOS ESPECTÁCULOS

¡Coro celestial en la presencia de Jesús!¡Escoja Cielo o Infierno AHORA!

After you pray call your minister, or if you don’t have one, call:

Evangelist Warren Biddle for counsel at 945-3757

Romanos 10:13.

Heaven or Hell NOW!For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 10: 9-11For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

Now pray this prayer below:Jesus, forgive me of my sins and come into my heart. Jesus, I know you have been raised from the dead. Jesus, I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that you are Lord and Savior. I ask you to save me in the name of Jesus Christ!

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

James 1:22 (King James Version)

Presenceby Jack Hodge

The morning mist fills the air.The presence of God is everywhere. He fills my life with His loving way.Filling my needs, He is here to stay.I accept the work He has given me.Trying to help set all mankind free. With the words between the pages

I write of His love through the ages.Beautiful love and grace fill this place. As my King puts a smile on my face.Knowing one day I’ll be by His side.

On the wing of a Dove I will fly. This poem is graciously given to me.

I’ll pass it on my friend to thee.As you feel the love and grace inside.Your life will flow as the graceful tide.

WAGGING TONGUES(Proverbs 26:17-28)

by Dorothy Dale

Gossip is a fuelThat feeds destructive fires. The tongue can do more

damage Than any funeral pyre.

A tale that's passed among youDestroys a person's life,

Or tears apart a church groupBy causing pain and strife.

Don't feed those firey embersAbout a friend or foe.

Ask God to help you quench them- Let them no farther go.

Ignore those juicy secrets- They're better left unknown. Someday that open closet May be your

very own.

And all that dirty linen That you have hid so well May become the gossip For someone else to tell.

Letter to the EditorFrom the Kitchen of Chef Jack HodgeChicago Style Pizza

Crust Ingredients3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 ounce active dry yeast1 cup warm water 1 teaspoon salt[3]6 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoons vegetable oil[4]

Sauce and Topping Ingredients12 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese1/2 pound cooked Italian sausage crumbles1 15-ounce can of diced tomatoes[5]2 minced garlic cloves5 fresh chopped basil leaves4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese[3]

Chicago Style Pizza Recipe 1.Add the warm water and yeast in a medium-sized mixing bowl and whisk together. 2.Add one cup of flour, salt, olive oil, and vegetable oil. 3.Stir in the rest of the flour, a half-cup at a time, until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. 4.Flour your hands and counter top or work surface and knead the dough until it is no longer sticky.[3] 5.Put the dough in a container that has been lightly oiled or greased and cover. 6.Allow the dough to rise for an hour. 7.Grease your deep-dish pizza pan with a non-stick spray, then add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and ensure all surfaces are well-coated. 8.Stretch the dough in your hands to create a large circle and lay it in the pan. Ensure the dough is even. 9.Cover the dough and allow it to rest for fifteen minutes. 10.Preheat your oven to 425F. 11.Stretch the dough to reach the edges of the pan and gently push the dough to cover the sides of the pan.[4] 12.Arrange the mozzarella cheese slices on top of the dough. 13.Place the sausage on top of the cheese. 14.Gently crush the tomatoes with your hands and put them on top of the sausage.[5] 15.Add the garlic, seasonings, and Parmesan cheese. 16.Bake the pizza for 15 minutes at 500F. 17.Lower the oven temperature to 400F and complete baking for about 30 minutes.[3]

Marie, you have always been there for us and there are no words to express our appreciation. We are so proud of the writers of One Voice because we have many people to stop us in Krogers and in Church and other places to say they look forward to reading the inspirational messages and Jack's recipes and of course my poems and the stories of miracles that are true that happens in our lives. We deliver to Carvers Apple farm and they take One Voice to the nursing homes and hospitals for us. This is a little of the work I am blessed to have had thru the years; I received my diploma in 2004 from Institute of Children's Literature as a writer for teenagers and children stories. I received "Chosen Poet Awards" 2001, 2002, 2003 from The International Library of Poetry. Newport News published my story of the girl run down and killed riding her bike on the highway near our home. She was from Vermont and tour guide on Pigeon River in Hartford,TN, eight miles away. My poems are published in Hometown Memories "Moonshine And Blind Mules" edition in North Carolina and in "Dreams And Curiosities" coffey table edition of International Library of Poetry. Poems are published in The national Library of Poetry and Poetry.com. Stories and poems are published in Church Bulletins in TN. and Publish American Books and South Carolina Newsletters. I wrote and sent many Christian poems and stories to Michigan Prisoners requested by a Christan friend in Ministry there. I sent Christian stories and poems to Russia by exchange students my husband worked with at Nascar Speed Park in Sevierville, TN. I have one book of poetry published "Hear The Voice of God" and one book on Christian History of Sherman's distruction in lower South Carolina "The Brave Boys." There aremore publications. Pray I didn't list too much. At my age I have done years of writing.

God Bless,Carolyn Kyzer
