DNA Replication

IB Biology

Key Words

• adenine• nitrogenous

base• anti-parallel• nucleic acid• nucleotide• covalent bond• cytosine• Pentose• DNA polymerase

• deoxyribonucleic acid• phosphate• deoxyribose• helicase• thymine• histone• guanine• hydrogen bond

Now lets act it out again!

• Copy of DNA base stickers

• DNA helicase

• DNA polymerase

• Free nucleotides!

Your tasks1. Complete the worksheet on DNA replication (Senior Bio 1 p211)

2. Design a stop-frame (with labels!) of DNA replication like this one

• It must include:- unwinding and unzipping by helicase-formation of new complementary strands by DNA polymerase

• You have until the 8th of November to complete this task

• It MUST be at least 1 minute long!

Example of designing a stop frame• Use a digital camera/mobile phone to take a photo of every scene

• Upload the photos onto your computer

• Copy the images into a powerpoint presentation

• Add labels using text boxes

• Rehearse your timings…

• Email it to me!!
