Welcome T-O Kiwanians
to the 97th Annual
Texas-Oklahoma District Convention
Party in the Piney Woods
Hosted by Texarkana Kiwanis Club
Are you ready for an event filled with fellowship, education, taking care of business, and FUN? If so, you’ve come to the right place!
You’ll have an opportunity to renew friendships, elect a new Governor and Governor-Elect and witness a historic visit by Kiwanis Internation-
al President, Dr. John Button, in celebration of the Eliminate Program and the 100th Anniversary of our great organization!
What would a District event be without a service project? Our goal is to leave our convention city in a better place than before we came, and we will accomplish this by asking everyone to bring school supplies for the
local schools in Texarkana, as well as pet supplies for the local animal shelters! We want to be able to help as many of our local children, of
both the 2 legged and 4 legged varieties!
There will be a couple of surprises as well! So come take a break from work (whatever your version of work is), and join us in Texarkana, TX August 6th – 8th, 2015 for an amazing District Convention! I can’t wait to
see everyone there!

Kim Maxey, President of the Kiwanis Club of Kingwood, is proud to announce the club's nomination of John
Sheridan as a candidate for Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis District Governor-Elect for 2015-16.
John is focused on growing Kiwanis, both in membership and service. He looks to the future as well as recog-
nizes the past. He realizes we have to know where we have been to plot a path to the future. John often ex-
presses, "Kiwanis is about three things: service, fellowship and education. We are a service organization and
that is our core; the friends and relationships that are developed as we meet and work on projects is priceless;
learning about the world around us through programs at meetings to KI training allows us to grow and ex-
pand." Concerning the Governor-Elect position, John noted " If elected, it is my intention to focus on the core
of what we do best, improve the world one child and one community at a time."
John was born and raised in Monmouth, Ill. He attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas and graduated in
1971. 1974 proved a busy year for him as he married his wife of 40 years, Susan, and earned his MBA from
Texas A&M at Commerce. John and Susan have three children and four grandchildren. They have resided in
Kingwood, Texas for over 30 years and they are active members of the Atascocita Presbyterian Church.
John' career with Exxon started in Kingsville, Texas. Early in his tenure he joined the Kingsville Kiwanis
Club where he served as a Director on the board. His career led him many places including Corpus Christi,
New Orleans and Houston. John retired from Exxon in 2001 and started a second career with Insperity, retir-
ing in 2013.
John became a member of the Kingwood Kiwanis Club while employed at Insperity. He has served as Distin-
guished President, Secretary, Treasurer, Board Member and numerous Committee Chair positions.

fied Club Counselor. During John's term as LTG two new clubs were opened in Division 3 and he was recog-
nized as Distinguished LTG.

Hello T-O Kiwanians! I am looking forward to attending your 2015 District Conven-
tion in Texarkana to celebrate another fantastic year of service
with all of you. My name is Rachel Iselin, and I am honored to
be serving as the Texas-Oklahoma Key Club District Gover-
nor for the 2015-2016 year.
Key Club has raised me all throughout high school, and I was able to serve at both the dis-
trict and club level as both a Lieutenant Governor and a club secretary prior to being elected Dis-
trict Governor.
As an incoming senior at Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, TX, this is my last chance
to make a lasting impact on the T-O Key Club District as a Key Clubber, and I plan to make the
most of it. My goals for the year are to increase communication within the district board and across
the district, grow T-O in membership and spirit, focus on service by publicizing service projects
from around the district, and emphasize the K-Family bond through interclub events. I’m also
working to visit every region possible in order to meet as many Key Clubbers as possible and
make sure they are getting what they need from the district board.
I plan on achieving these goals by working with the Lieutenant Governors and their clubs to
“Bridge the Gap” between the different sectors of the K-Family. I have also chosen my Governor’s
Project for the year to focus on the bond between Kiwanis and Key Club by having regions create
K-family interclub events and by challenging Key Clubs to support Kiwanis projects such as the
Disaster Relief Backpacks program. Throughout my journey in Key Club, my greatest supporters
have been the adults who have advocated for me and worked alongside me to help me achieve my
goals. I believe that the bonds we create within these organizations are irreplaceable and some-
thing unique to the K-Family that should be expanded upon and emphasized. Every Kiwanian I’ve
ever met has been a genuine, caring person who has inspired me to remain within the K-Family
and to give everything I can to become a better leader and a better person.
So on behalf of the Key Club in Texas and Oklahoma, I thank you all for your dedication to
Kiwanis and your commitment to changing the world one child at a time, and I look forward to a
phenomenal year with all of you!

Howdy Kiwanis Family!
My name is Jennifer Tuggle, and I’m a junior Business Honors major at Texas A&M University. This year it’s my pleasure to serve as the 2015-2016 Texas-Oklahoma CKI District Governor. I’ve been in the Kiwanis Family for the past five years, serving as a Distinguished Past Key Club Lt. Governor from Divi-sion 3S in the Greater Houston Area, CKI Kiwanis Family Relations Chairwom-an, and most recently as the District Treasurer for T-O CKI.
This past March, our newly elected CKI leaders from the Texas-Oklahoma Dis-trict have laid out an extensive plan for the growth and revitalization of our CKI District. I’m so excited to oversee and lead the district, as we undertake these initiatives. The following is a list of our goals:
Service Hours. 10,000 hours for CKI District members.
Board Service Hours. 600 hours for CKI District Board. Membership. 500 members for the Texas-Oklahoma District.
Charters/Reactivation. 6 reactivated/newly chartered chapters. Kiwanis Family Relations. 35 Kiwanis-Family Events.
Inter-chapters. 75 inter-chapters.
Fall Retreat Attendance. 100 attendees. District Convention. 130 attendees.
Governor’s Project. 1 awareness and 1 in-kind donation project per chapter. Eliminate Project. $4,500 raised- saving or protecting 2500 mothers and their families from MNT.
Together with your help, as our greatest supporters, I know that we will be able to accomplish these feats and have a very memorable year.
We are appreciative of all the support that you have lent to Circle K, especially the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis Foundation for underwriting our Fall Leadership Retreat and providing generous scholarship gifts at our convention. If your Kiwanis Club is looking for a unique and fun project, I ask you to consider sponsoring a Circle K at a college or university near you. If there is no college near you, your club can still support CKI by making a contribution to Circle K’s Project Outreach Fund.
For more details on how to further support Circle K, please feel free to contact me. Again, have a wonderful convention and thank you for your tremendous support of Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs.

Downtown Texarkana is covered in rich history. Our Spouse’s Day
Out will allow you to see a handful of Texarkana’s history up close
and in person. This great opportunity will be available on Friday, Au-
gust 7th. Everyone will need to meet in the lobby of the Hilton Garden
Inn at 1:15 in order to leave at 1:30. This 75 minute adventure will
start at Photographer’s Island located at the post office, the second-
most photographed courthouse in the nation.
Walking from there, we will head to St
James’ Church. Built in 1878, it is beautifully
designed with stained glass windows.
The famous Ace of Club house, built in 1885
with money won from a poker game, fea-
tures unique architecture and a collection of
original family furnishings and personal
belongings. It's the oldest standing house in
Texarkana, Texas.
A short drive over to the Perot Theatre will be your last stop. The Saenger Amusement Compa-
ny's "Gateway to the Southwest" theatre has been a landmark since 1924. The theatre is now
owned by the City of Texarkana, TX and the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council.
After the tour, we will head back to the hotel.

When Jim Lord, member of the Tyler-Rose City Kiwa-
nis Club, asked Texas-Oklahoma District Coordinator Fran-
cine Eikner if there was anything he could do for The Elimi-
nate Project, little did he know the impact that the answer to
this simple question would have.
Jim’s son, Seth, is a musician; and Jim has a recording
studio in his home. Francine immediately thought it would
be nice to have a song that would tell the story of The Elimi-
nate Project. After several months of researching The Elimi-
nate Project website, Seth had a pretty good idea of what it
was all about. He composed the music and wrote the lyrics,
and then, after a lot of hard work, it all came together.
That was three years ago, and since that time the music
video has been seen by Kiwanians from all over the world. From his research,
Seth certainly understood the threat of maternal and neonatal tetanus to young
women and their babies in underdeveloped countries. He was able to express,
through music and lyrics, the message that we are oftentimes unable to put into
words. At a recent Division 34 Council meeting, Jim and Seth were recognized
with Walter Zeller awards for their amazing response to this simple question.
Thank you, Seth and Jim, for sharing your time and talent.
Everyone can view this amazing video at https://www.youtube.com/embed/
nN-XTebZ5ss. You are welcome to use the video at your own club meeting, divi-
sion council meeting, or with
anyone you think might be in-
terested in learning about The
Eliminate Project.

Our goal is to leave our convention city in a
better place than before we came, and we will
accomplish this by asking everyone to bring
school supplies for the local schools in
Texarkana, as well as pet supplies for the
local animal shelters! We want to be able to
help as many of our local children, of both
the 2 legged and 4 legged varieties!
Hope to see you there!
