High-voltage winding
The high-voltage layer winding is wound directly on thelow-voltagewindingwiththemainisolationchannel.State-of-the-artautomatedwindingmachineswithconstantwindingtension create compact coilswithmaximumstrength. Thelayerisolationmadeofhigh-qualityinsulatingpaperisdesi-gnedusingstripisolationtechnologyandmeetsthehighestdemandsinmoderndistributiongrids.
Low-voltage winding
Low-voltage stripwindings are used for transformers star-tingwithanoutputof160 kVA.Theaxialpowerdistributioncanbefreelyadjusted inthestripwindings.Thisminimizesthethrustforcesthatoccurduringshortcircuits.Duringthedryingprocess,theactivepartbondsthelayerisolationwiththeconductorstripintoacompactcoil.
Rauscher & Stoecklin offers a wide range of transformers.Free-breathingtransformers,whicharethepreferreddesigninSwissdistributionnetworks,offertheoperatingcompanyeasymaintenancewiththesmallestdimensionsand lowestweights possible. For export markets Rauscher & Stoecklinhasalonghistoryinproducinghermeticallysealedtransfor-mers.
Our production site in Sissach has around 95 trained andhighlyqualifiedemployeesandoffersgenuineSwissquality.

Assembling the active part
Usingclampingstrapsmadeofstripsteel,theironcoreyokeisoptimallypressedtogetherwiththecolumnsusingprofiledsteel.Thiseliminatestierodsthatadverselyaffectthemag-neticflux.Theactivepartissecurelyscrewedtothecoverandsupportedagainstthebaseofthetank.
Iron core
Thesemicircularorovalcoreshapeallowsforextensivestan-dardizationandoptimizationandmakesiteasytoadjustthecorecross-section.Thecoreisinterleavedinastep-lappro-cess.Thesheetmetaljointshaveseveraloffsets.Thistechno-logycoupledwiththeselectionofhigh-qualitymagneticsteelplateprovidesadditionalbenefitsintermsofno-loadlossesandalownoiselevel.Weoffertransformerswithamorphouscorematerialforapplicationsinwhichextremelylowno-loadlossesarerequired.
Corrosion protection
Thecorrosionprotectionisparticularlyimportant.Thetankand cover are sand-blasted and painted or power-coatedwithseverallayersinthestandardcolorRAL7033.Low-sol-ventpaintispreferredinordertoprotecttheenvironment.
Tank & cover
Thetransformertankmustwithstandallmechanicalandther-mal loads that occur during transport and operation. Rau-scher & Stoecklin uses corrugated tanksmade of cold-rolledstripsteelwithareinforcedbottomtrough.Alloftheheatlossisreleasedfromthetanksurfaceintotheambientair.Theco-ver isbenton the longitudinal sides foradditional reinforce-mentandscrewedtothetank.Twoliftingeyesareweldedtotheunittoliftthetransformerortheactivepart.

Free-breathing transformersOpen transformers have been adopted as the standard inSwitzerland.Thecoverhastwopressure-reliefvalveopeningsthroughwhichtheairisexchangedwiththeaircushionunderthecoverinsidethetransformer.Thisaircushionmakescon-tactwith thecooling liquidandanyabsorbedmoistureovertheentiresurfacecanescapeduringhighercoolanttempera-tures.The free-breathingdesign is characterizedby lowoilvolumeandextremely small dimensions.Duringoperation,thetransformeroperateswithoutanypressure.Inaddition,thetankisnotsubjectedtoadditionalmechanicalloads.Thefree-breathingdesignhasprovenitselfathousandtimesoverandiscost-effective.
Hermetically sealed transformersTransformerswithhermeticallysealedtanksarestandardininternationalmarkets. The unit is fully hermetically sealed,thuspreventingdirectcontactofthecoolingliquidwiththeair and further reducing maintenance costs thanks to thehigheroilquality.Theoilexpansionisabsorbedbythecoo-ling shaftsand thereforesubjects the tank toanadditionalmechanicalload.Inordertolimitthepressure,hermeticallysealedtransformersrequirelowershafts,whichresults inahigheroil volume.As a result, thedimensions andweightsincreaseaccordingly.

Industrial transformersWerecommendonlyoperatingspeciallydesigned transfor-mersinindustrialgridsinwhichhightransientinterferencevoltagesaretobeexpected,forexampleduetopowercon-vertersorfrequency-controlleddrives.
Frequentorconstanttransientinterferencevoltagesresultintheprematureageingof thepaper insulationandwirecoa-ting,bothonthetransformer'slow-voltageandhigh-voltageside.
Inordertopreventthis,additionalmeasuresmustbetaken;thelayerinsulationmustbereinforcedandagroundedshieldmustbeinstalledbetweenthehigh-voltageandlow-voltagewinding.
Cast resin transformersRauscher & Stoecklin offers cast resin transformers fromTesar,acompanyof theR&SGroup,asanalternative to li-quid-filleddistributiontransformers.Thecastresintransfor-merscomplywiththeapplicableinternationalstandardsandareusedwhereverliquid-filledtransformersareundesirable or wherever environmental or fire prevention regulationsexist. The power range extends from 160 kVA to 25 MVAwithamaximumratedvoltageof52kV.
High-qualitymaterialscoupledwithsolidworkmanshipensu-remaximumreliability.Thelow-voltagewindingisinsulatedwithresin.Thehigh-voltagewindingiscastwithoutanycavi-tiesinacompressionmoldundervacuumandhardenedwithnocracking.Fiberglassinsulationandepoxyresinareusedtoensurehighmechanicalstrength.
Due to the lowfire risk, cast resin transformers canbe in-stalledintheload'scenterofgravity.Theyeasilywithstandshort-termpeakloads,whichoccurwhenstartingmotorsorduringweldingoperations.Afancanbeinstalledtoallowforapermanentoverloadofupto40 %.Thefansarefastenedtothetransformerclampingstructureandcanberetrofittedatanytime.
Castresintransformerscanalsobeinstalledinhousingsonrequest.ProtectionclassesIP 21,IP 23andIP 31areavailable.

Rauscher & Stoecklin has pro-found expertise and a series of reference projects in thisarea.
Dry-type transformersRauscher&Stoecklinair-cooledtransformersareusedwher-ever lowvoltagemustbe transformed into lowvoltage.Theunitsaremanufacturedaccordingtocustomerspecificationsasanautotransformerorisolatingtransformerandarealsobasedonindividualcustomerrequests.
Thepowerrangeforsingle-phasetransformersextendsfrom5 kVAto100 kVAandforthree-phasetransformersfrom10kVAto400kVAwithamaximumratedvoltageof1.1kV.
The transformers are designed with insulation class B or Fdependingonthesizeorcustomerrequirements. Insulationthatischaracterizedbyhighmechanicalandelectricstrengthandgoodthermalpropertiesisuseddependingontherequi-redthermalclass.Theactivepartisimpregnatedusingava-cuum-pressureorimmersiontechniquetoprotectitagainstmoisture.ItisthenpaintedinthecolorRAL 7032.
Dry-typetransformerscanalsobe installed inhousingsonrequest.ProtectionclassesfromIP 20toIP 22areavailable.
Single-phase transformer
Special-purpose transformersLoads in thedistributiongridarecontrolledremotelyusingaudiofrequencyripplecontrol.
Wesupplyaudio-frequencytransformersforthesimultaneoussupplyof ripplecontrol systems fora frequency range from200 Hzto2000 Hzandforamaximumratedvoltageofappro-ximately36 kV.
For railway companies, Rauscher & Stoecklin produces sing-le-phaseoverheadlinetransformersupto1000 kVAforsup-plyingloadsinrailwaygridswith15 kVand162/3 Hzor25 kVand50 Hz.

Amorphous transformersTomeettheconstantly increasingdemandsintermsof los-ses, Rauscher & Stoecklin also offers distribution transfor-merswithamorphouscores.
Amorphous transformerswithparticularly lowno-load los-sesareidealwhereversuchlossesplayamajorroleandtheassociatedcostsaretobeabsorbedoverthelongterm.Mostamorphoustransformersnowalreadysatisfythelimitvaluerequirementsthatwillcomeintoforcein2021.
The lower no-load losses compared to a convention trans-formeraretheresultofthecorematerial.Thecoreinamor-phoustransformers isproducedoutofverythinfoilsmadeofamorphousmaterials.
Thecrystallinestructureoftheamorphouscoreissignificant-lyeasiertomagnetizeanddemagnetizethanwithaconven-tionalcore.Thisproducesconsiderablyfewerno-loadlosses.
Theamorphoustransformersareavailableintheoutputran-gefrom400 kVAto1,000 kVA.Othersizesareavailableonrequest.Theyofferthesameequipmentoptionsasthestan-dardtransformers.
Distribution Transformer with on-load tap changerWhen planning and operating grids, there is an increasingnumberofobviousadvantagesachievedbydynamicallyad-justing the voltage in the distribution grid and thus also inmediumand lowvoltage.Asalreadymentioned in thehig-hervoltagelevels,vacuumon-loadtap-changersarethetoolofchoicehere–replacingthestatictransformersthathavebeenusedtodate–toexpandthevoltageadjustmentfunc-tionduringoperationinthedistributiongrid.
Controllabletransformersthatcandynamicallychangethetransformerratioandthus thevoltagesare theworldwidestandard in high-voltage and extra-high-voltage grid sys-tems. In the past, however,most transformers connectedtomediumvoltagecontaineda tapchanger,viawhich thevoltage could only be adjustedwhen the transformerwasswitchedoff.

Thistransformerdesignisequippedwithanintegratedoilre-tentionvatmadeofsteel.Itissecurelyconnectedtothetrans-formerbetweenthetankandthechassisframe.Integratedoilretentionvatsmustbeincludedintheprojectfromthestart,sincethewidertransformerdimensionsmaynolongerallowinstallationthroughexistingdooropenings.
Stand-alone oil retention vat
Stand-aloneoil retention vats aremadeof lightweight alu-minumandaresuppliedseparately.Thestand-alonedesignoffersvariousadvantages.Theycanbesubsequentlyplacedundereverytransformerandinstalledseparatelyinthestati-on.Narrowdoorsnolongerpresentaproblem.Allstand-alo-neoiltroughscanbeconnectedonthelongitudinalornar-row side or completely sealed.With the EASY design, thetransformermust only be lifted a fewmillimeters and canthusberolledintothetrough.
