VERSIONS

The SCAME range of distribution assemblies includesthe following Series:- MEGA- MASTERBOX- DOMINO- BLOCK- GOMMA

SCAME’s distribution assemblies are available in thefollowing versions:

- Fully pre-wired units:standard equipment for industrial and similarapplications, construction sites, etc.

- Partly pre-wired units:equipment partly factory-wired at SCAME, to becompleted by the user.

- Empty units with plain front panel:which can house any type of industrial and/ordomestic sockets, protective devices and other typesof compatible low-voltage electrical equipment (thisversion is not available for MEGA units).

- Empty units with front-panel cut-outs:designed to house industrial 16 A and 32 A IEC309 orEUREKA Series socket outlets, 10 A and 16 A domesticEuropean type socket outlets (to CEI, VDE, UTE andBS) and 16 A and 32 A OMNIA interlocked-switchsocket outlets (only for DOMINO units)NOTE: This version is available only in DOMINO andBLOCK Series.

COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS

All SCAME’s empty units are constructed to meet IEC670 requirements.The assemblies comply with EN 60439-1 (IEC 60439-1)and EN 60439-4 (IEC 60439-4) standards.

ACCESSORIES

SCAME supply a kit containing several standardinstallation accessories together with every emptyunit. Other optional accessories are available onrequest.

DOUBLE INSULATION

All SCAME’s thermoplastic units are provided withdouble insulation. This ensures safety in use since itprevents live parts from coming in contact with theoutside of the enclosure in the event of a malfunction.

PRE-ASSEMBLIES

Pre-assemblies are ready-made distributionassemblies, fully pre-wired and equipped withindustrial and/or domestic sockets, protective devices(modular or moulded-case MCBs and RCDs) andaccessories.SCAME also offer a partly wired version (up to theEN50022 rail), equipped with industrial and/ordomestic sockets, but without protective devices. Thechoice, purchase and installation of these articles isleft to the customer.Pre-assemblies constructed and wired in-house bySCAME undergo strict quality control to pass all testsrequired by the standards. This assures the safety,reliability and long life of the equipment, provided theuser operates correct installation, practices inaccordance with the relevant wiring regulations.The following pages describe many of the standardassemblies produced by SCAME, which differ fromeach other by version, socket combination, protectivedevices and protection degree. Together they willmeet most of the installation requirements that arisein terminal power distribution.

CUSTOMISED ASSEMBLIES

Consistent with their strongly customer-orientedmarketing policy, SCAME also offer distributionassemblies housing combinations of sockets andprotection devices made up to specific customerrequirements.SCAME are in a position to design, implement andsupply to order, accurately finished distributionassemblies at short notice.

PRACTICAL ADVICERead and follow the instructions carefully. Allregulations in force governing electrical installationsmust be observed:❖ Check the assemblies regularly and replace them as

soon as they show evident signs of wear and tear.Always employ qualified technical staff.

❖ If the product has been subject to impact or knocks, itshould be checked at once even if it has suffered noevident damage.

❖ Never enclose the assembly in such a way as to hinderinspection and/or maintenance.

❖ Always employ qualified technical staff for any workon the switchgear.

EUROPEAN STANDARD EN 60439-4 (IEC 439-4)Distribution assemblies for use on construction sites.

In conformity with the requirements of internationalregulations, distribution assemblies used onconstruction sites must comply with standard EN60439-4 “Particular requirements for assemblies forconstruction sites (ACS)” , which supplement, amendand supersede some articles of standard IEC 439-1.

Therefore all assemblies for construction sites (ACS)must take into account both the general standard EN60439-1 and the specific standard for constructionsites EN 60439-4.

In particular, standard EN 60439-4 requires that:

- the maximum rated voltage does not exceed 1000 V(a.c.) and 1500 V d.c.;

- all ACS distribution assemblies bear one or morepermanently inscribed data plates which are clearlyvisible after installation;

- the data plates carry the following information:• manufacturer’s name or trade-mark• designation of the type and identification number

which allow the user to apply to the manufacturerto obtain additional technical information;

• reference to standard EN 60439-4;• rated current, type of current and, if a.c, frequency.

Compliance of ACS assemblies to EN 60439-4 is testedby type tests on a sample constructed according tothe manufacturer’s prescribed production system orwithout modifications from it such as to affect theperformance.

COMPLIANCE WITH DISTRIBUTION ASSEMBLIESSTANDARDS

Distribution assemblies must comply with thestandards listed below:

European standard EN 60439-1Distribution assemblies to be used in industrial,agricultural, service industry etc., applications in regularand heavy duty conditions.

This standard requires:

- that mass-produced distribution assemblies (TTA) aresubject to type testing, and

- that non-mass produced distribution assemblies(PTTA) are partly subject to type testing.

All SCAME distribution assemblies (pre-wired unit fullyequipped with sockets, protective devices, etc.)comply with IEC 60439-1.

Since they are mass-produced (TTA), they are subjectto type testing, an additional assurance for the user.

DOCUMENTATION FOR ACS

The manufacturer must specify in theirdocumentation all conditions of installation, operationand maintenance of the assemblies and of theequipment housed in them.If the wiring diagram is not evident, suitable additionalinformation must be supplied, eg. circuit diagrams ortables of connections.The manufacturer must also issue a conformitydeclaration certifying that the product has beenproduced in compliance with the standards.

FLEXIBLE USEAn outstanding feature of SCAME’s range ofdistribution assemblies is their highly flexible use dueto:- the considerable number of different possible

combinations of industrial and/or domestic socketoutlets which can be mounted in the assemblies;

- the numerous possibilities of stationary and mobileinstallation: surface mounting, flush mounting,turret mounting, self-supporting, portable and on awheeled cable-reel stand.

Portable (or semi-stationary) ACS

An assembly designed to be used in a place where it isnot permanently installed; its may be moved from onearea to another on a construction site.

Whenever an assembly has to be transported, it mustfirst be disconnected.

Mobile ACS

An ACS can be moved during progress of work on thebuilding site and does not need to be disconnected.

DEFINITIONS

DISTRIBUTION ASSEMBLY

A combination of one or more low-voltage protectiveand operating devices with any possible measuring,indicating, protective and/or regulatory devices,entirely installed under the manufacturer’sresponsibility, with all internal wiring and mechanicalconnections, including the structural supportingparts.

- TTA: Mass-produced assemblyAn assembly conforming to a giventype or construction system or in anycase without modifications from itsuch as to affect its performance to adecisive extent compared to the typetested assembly as prescribed by theStandard.

- PTTA: Non-mass produced assemblyAssemblies containing bothconfigurations tested by type testsand configurations not tested bytype tests, provided that the latter arederived (eg. by calculation) fromconfigurations which passed theprescribed tests.

- ACS Mass-produced assembly for construction sites

Combinations of one or moretransformers or switches and theirassociated control, measuring,indicating, protective and settingdevices, with all their wiring andmechanical connections as well astheir bearing structures, designed andconstructed for use indoors andoutdoors on construction sites.

ACS assemblies must be mass-produced (TTA).

These assemblies therefore comply with EN 60439-1and EN 60439-4; in particular, they meet Standardrequirements for the following uses:- MEGA assemblies: distribution ACS- MASTERBOX assemblies: final distribution ACS- DOMINO and BLOCK portable assemblies: socket outlet ACS

NOTE: Two or more functions as described above maybe combined in a single ACS assembly, eg. a socketoutlet ACS may be combined with a transformer ACS.Compliance with the European Standard 60439-4 forassemblies for construction sites (ACS) will bemandatory in all CENELEC member countries.

ACS SCAMESCAME ACS assemblies are available for the functionslisted below. Their specifications comply with thoseprescribed by the standards:

Distribution ACSconsisting of one inlet unit and several outlet units.- rated current between 125 A and 630 A- outgoing feeder cables connected to terminals or

sockets- isolating device that can be padlocked in OFF

position.

Final distribution ACSconsisting of one or more outgoing feeders- Max. rated current 125 A- isolating device can be padlocked in OFF position- no provision for delaying the tripping time of the

protective devices- residual current device (RCD) with I dn < 30mA as

additional protection against indirect contacts- max. 6 sockets protected by each RCD.
