BS EN 12825 classificationsREG600/KH60WS9G
• Ultimate load ≥ 9kN therefore class 4
• Safety factor of 3 with deflection of less than 2.5mm
therefore a classification of 4/3/A/2 with a working
load of 3kN, KAF recommended classification
• Or a safety factor of 2 with deflection of less than
4mm therefore a classification of 4/2/C/2 with a
working load of 4.5kN
• These two classifications define the range that this
product can be used within, both will be shown on

PSA certified pedestals• Pedestals are tested as part of all system testing
• Specific pedestal testing also undertaken– Horizontal load test– Vertical load test
• at centre of pedestal head• over one quadrant of pedestal head
• Horizontal load test measures the degree of free play in the pedestal when subject to a horizontal load at the pedestal head
• Vertical load at centre of pedestal head is 10.8kN for light grade and 18kN for medium, heavy and extra heavy
• Vertical load over one quadrant is 8.1kN for light grade and 13.5kN for medium, heavy and extra heavy
Pedestals;- Alpha I / Kped01
• All steel construction electro plated for corrosion protection
• Baseplate 100mm square as PSA, 2.5mm thick
• 90mm dia head, caps fitted for panel location
• Good electrical continuity from panel to earth
• Caters for floor heights from 55mm to 90mm by the use of three tube/socket lengths to give Kped01 A, B or C
Pedestals;- Alpha IV / Kped04
• All steel construction electro plated for corrosion protection
• Baseplate 100mm square as PSA, 2.5mm thick
• 90mm dia head, caps fitted for panel location
• Good electrical continuity from panel to earth
• Caters for floor heights from 80mm to 600mm
• Replaces Alpha II / Kped02
• Wide adjustment range, up to 85mm
Pedestals;- Alpha III / Kped03
• All steel construction electro plated for corrosion protection
• Baseplate 120mm square, 3mm thick
• 90mm dia head, caps fitted for panel location
• Good electrical continuity from panel to earth
• Caters for floor heights from 600mm to 1200mm
Pedestal Caps
• Fit all pedestal types• Incorporate copper
electrical continuity links were required
• Caps provide location and lateral stability for the panels
Stringers
• Steel construction, snap into pedestal head
• Used to provide lateral stability at increased floor heights, 600mm upwards for bare panels
• Introduced with factory finished panels at floor heights of 450mm upwards, help to maintain tight grid on finished floor surface
• Used to increase the structural performance of the floor, heavy to extra heavy, localised heavy equipment, rolling loads etc
BS EN 12825 pedestals
• Pedestals are tested as part of all system testing
• Specific pedestal testing also undertaken
– Vertical load test at centre of pedestal head• This load is 4 times the working load of the
system
BS EN 12825 product classification
Pedestals
• Kped05 is tested to 4 times the working load of KH60WS10G
• FFH from 80mm to 350mm
• 50mm adjustment• 90mm dia head,
standard caps fit• 100mm square baseplate
• Use Kped01, 04 and 03 as previously outlined

Alternative specifications
• Assume a working load of 3kN is required with a deflection of less than 2.5mm
• KAF offer REG600 (KH60WS9G), classification of 4/3/A/2
• Alternative product offered with classification of 2/2/A/2
• This product offers a ultimate load of ≥ 6kN, safety factor of 2 and a deflection of less than 2.5mm at a 3kN working load
Alternative specifications• At present we compete primarily on price
• BS EN 12825 raises the possibility that we will also have to compete on specification
• There will be a need to develop strategies to protect our product specifications from alternative product specifications
• However once specification is written by the design team there is a reluctance to re-visit without significant savings
Summary• PSA specification is a comprehensive
document that covers all aspects of raised access flooring
• PSA and K41 makes the specification process of raised access flooring very straightforward in many cases
• BS EN 12825 is primarily a means of allowing selection on the basis of product classification
• The test methods of BS EN are significantly different to those of the PSA spec
• Product classifications are primarily based on KAF recommendations of a safety factor of 3 and a deflection of 2.5
Summary• Alternative classifications to give range over
which products can be used
• Looked at KAF products with their performance against BS EN and PSA specifications
• Application charts to provide guidance on areas of use
• Opportunities provided by BS EN to maintain specification, however strategies needed to defend from alternative specifications
