Army Civilian Fitness ProgramArmy Civilian Fitness Program

• DA approved program in which civilians employed by the Army are encouraged to engage in a regular program of exercise and other positive health habits.

• Commanders and Supervisors may approve and allow for three one- hour exercise sessions each week during normal work hours for a total of 78 hours over a consecutive 6 month period of time.

• Civilian Fitness- is a one-time enrollment opportunity.

• Goal: to initiate and maintain healthy behavioral changes via initial - and post- assessments and development of an exercise/nutrition program appropriate for each participants lifestyle.

• Supervisor approval and support is necessary for offi cial entry

The next assessment period will be in Apr. 2011; Participants are enrolled for 6 months from:

• May 1, 2011 – Oct. 31, 2011

• New enrollments begin Apr. 2011; Contact POC listed below for an appointment time.

• Pre and Post assessments, to take place in Apr. and Oct. respectively, are mandatory.

Walk off the Wait (WOW)This activity is held every other month to give Blue Star Cardholders the opportunity to see how beautiful the island is bygoing on various hikes around Oahu.

THE

BIG Big R: Countdown to Redeployment

This is a monthly event for Blue Star Card holders to count down the months until their Soldier returns. Each month there is a different activity such as Bowling, Zumba, Casino Night, Luau, etc. as well as free childcare and appetizers.

Create-a-CardThis activity is held four times per year at the SGT Yano Library. It gives the Families of deployed Soldiers the chance to make personalized greeting cards for their Soldiers.

Theatre NightThis event is held four times per year at the Army Community Theatre, Richardson Theatre, Fort Shafter. Blue Star Card holders can enjoy transportation, preshow appetizers, and a viewing of a performance of the current production at the theatre, all for free!

The Blue Star Card is an Family and MWR discount and activities program intended to enhance the well being of Spouses and Families of combat deployed Army Soldiers

Theatre Thursdays @ SGT. Yano LibrarySchofi eld Barracks Learn the basics of stage acting in our on-going theatre program for ages 12 and up. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! @ the LibrariesThe Cat in the Hat will be visiting Army Libraries in March to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This free program is for children of all ages. READ TO THE DOGS @ SGT. Yano and Aliamanu LibrariesOur volunteer therapy dogs and service dogs from Hawaii Fido are non-judgmental and comforting to children who need to practice their reading and improve their fl uency. Children who are able to read on their own may sign up for a 15-minute session to read to a dog at SGT. Yano Library on Saturday, Mar. 12 and Apr. 9 from 11 am – 12:15 pm, and Saturday Mar. 5 and Apr. 2 from 9 – 10:15 am at AMR library. Call either library to reserve a space or for more information.

Learn to Crochet @ the librariesWant to learn to crochet? Come join us on Tues, Mar. 22 at Aliamanu, Wed, Mar. 23 at SGT. Yano, and Thurs, Mar. 24 at Fort Shafter, from 4 - 6 pm. Step-by-step instructions on basic crochet stitches and how to read patterns will be shown. Please bring a crochet hook size F or higher. Yarn will be provided. Crocheting with Plarn @ the librariesWhat is Plarn? Why it’s plastic yarn, which can be recycled from grocery bags. Staff will teach participants how to turn ordinary plastic shopping bags into “plarn”, as well as share some fun crochet patterns. It will be helpful to know some crochet, but not necessary. Bring an N hook and 2 - 3 plastic bags to start with. Give your used plastic bags new life! Sessions will be held on Tues, Apr. 5 at AMR Library, Wed, Apr. 6 at Ft Shafter Library, and Thurs, Apr. 7 at SGT. Yano Library. All programs will run from 5 - 6:30 pm. Scavenger Hunt @ the librariesHelp the Army libraries celebrate National Library Week, Apr. 10-16 by participating in our Library Scavenger Hunt. The hunt runs all week long and every participant receives a prize when they complete their card. There will be a grand prize drawing at the end of the week for all participants. With four categories to choose from Preschool, School Age, Teen, and Adult, the whole family can take part. Come one, come all!

Flower Lei Making @ the librariesTo help our military families learn about Lei Day in Hawaii, the Army libraries, in partnership with the Native Hawaiian Offi ce, will be hosting Flower Lei-Making Workshops.
