Flotillas are the sociable way to sail. You have the freedom of skippering your own yacht during the day but with the support of a British lead crew with an experienced skipper and hostess, providing weather forecasts guiding you on the best itinerary, helping you to moor up in the evenings and sorting out any queries you may have.

We aim to ensure a friendly flotilla with a maximum of 10 yachts sailing with each lead crew. This allows you to visit the small harbours and anchorages which make the Saronic Gulf so special.

People choose flotillas for a variety of reasons. It’s popular with those relatively new to sailing who appreciate the support of the lead crew but also with those who have sailed many times before who enjoy the sociable side of a flotilla and the local knowledge and reassurance that the lead crew provide – useful if you’re new to the cruising area. During the school holidays flotillas are particularly popular with families who enjoy an active holiday together.

Our Saronic flotilla starts from the heart of Athens and cruises the beautiful islands of the Saronic Gulf, an ideal area for flotilla sailing

Flotilla Sailing

offering reliable winds of moderate strength, short distances and scenic harbours. You’ll visit the picturesque islands of Aegina, Hydra, Spetses and Poros as well as mainland towns such as Epidavros with its famous ancient amphitheatre. Our flotilla is based in Kalamaki Marina in Athens. You’ll be met at the airport and taken to your yacht – a 40-minute taxi ride straight to the marina. This is a convenient place to start your holiday, without the need to take a hydrofoil or lengthy land transfer.

Kalamaki is a short taxi ride from the centre of Athens. On your first evening, enjoy dinner in the famous Plaka area of Athens, with a view of the Acropolis, or chill out in one of the restaurants in or near the marina. With daily flights you could plan a few days in Athens before or after your flotilla for a city break to soak up the culture and history of this amazing city, recently given a facelift for the 2004 Olympic Games.

Please ask our flotilla brochure for full details.

Greece

Welcome to Greece, welcome to the country whose name has been identified with the sea and sailing for centuries. The Saronic Gulf, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the Sporades, the Ionians, everywhere places of extreme beauty, hundreds of islands, thousands of kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches, traditional harbours and small ports, every place is unique and different from the other. Here the sailing choices are virtually unlimited and tailor made for a wide range of experiences.

From the Cyclades, where the winds change strength and direction unexpectedly, for those who love really challenging sailing, to the Ionians, where the stable light winds will be extremely appreciated

by those who wish for an easier and more leisurely sailing. Greece will satisfy those who wish for the Cosmopolitan places, such as Paros, Myconos, Corfu, Rhodes, Santorini and Hydra, for those who do not enjoy the crowds, you will find your own unspoiled and peaceful anchorages and harbours in the Eastern Peloponnesus, in Sikinos, Milos, Simi, Nisiros etc.

It is worth nothing that you need endless months and months of holidays to explore the Greek islands and coasts, thanks to God’s generosity the climatic conditions are ideal for 9 months of sailing (March to November).

8

The Saronic Gulf and Eastern Peloponnesus

Six islands lie between the Attic Peninsula and the Peloponnese, six islands, all of which have a completely different character. Poros, for example, with its cubical, white houses looks like a Cycladic island, Hydra on the other hand is rough yet beautiful to paint. Spétses attracts with its beaches and its flavoursome smelling pine forests, Aegina with its ancient temple of Aphaia. Dokos is uninhabited whereas Salamis almost urban, since this island is located almost two kilometres away from the coast of Piraeus (Athens).

The first stage can be therefore short, yet in less than a hour you can moor your ship at the port of Salamis or anchor at one of the numerous bays. Yet almost everybody keeps sailing away, up to the beautiful Hydra (an anchor stop in Ormos Mandraki, almost a nautical mile east of the Chora) or until Poros where you can moor your yacht and enjoy the shadow of the numerous blue domes. Or also until the busy and lively Aegina.

Yet, you should by all means head also for the coast of eastern Peloponnese, for example Kyparissi, a beautiful scenic bay, which is surrounded by high mountains. The small harbour bay called Gerakas, which is surrounded by high rocks. And one of the numerous bays that intersect each other between the ochre yellow rocks.

There are so many bays and harbours, which are worth wandering across the eastern bank of the Peloponnese and the Saronic islands – distant and enchanted, picturesque, lively and ancient destinations.

Weather & WindThe Saronic Gulf and the eastern Peloponnese are much less affected by the strong winds of the Aegean Sea, usually you don’t even feel the Meltemi wind (north east, around 4 Beaufort). At the east coast of the Peloponnese however some unexpected gusts may occur sometimes from 6 to 7 Beaufort. During the Meltemi pause period, the wind blows usually from a southern direction, in the afternoon between 3 and 5 Beaufort, in the evening much weaker.

10

The Cyclades

Snow white houses, blue domes and luminous, small chapels. Barren hills, bizarre rocks, sandy niche, deep blue, as much as your eye can reach – that is the scenery that surrounds everyone, who sails around the waters of the Cyclades.

This island group consists of approximately 50 islands, all of which are located around the circle – the Kyklos – of the former holy island of Delos. On each island you can see new beautiful picturesque leitmotivs: on Mykonos the white shining windmills, on Santorini the reddish shimmering volcano crater, and on Delos the ancient columns. Among the most popular and famous islands are Mykonos and Paros (there and in Athens you will also find Kiracoulis bases), Naxos, Ios and Santorini. Less popular, yet very beautiful are the also ancient islands of Kea, Sifnos, Sikinos as well as those located in the northern Cyclades, like Andros and Tinos.

The Cyclades are a challenging route. The presence of multi faced islands itself is a reason why you should sail around this island group for longer than a week. Yet, there is another reason: The warm Aegean wind Meltemi, that blows heavily and constantly from the north between the middle of June and September creates unique conditions – for sporting sail activities under the blue sky and warm temperatures.

You should probably stay here for no less than two weeks. Or you can come back again to head, for example, to Amorgos and the small eastern Cyclades. Or to plan an excursion to the green Andros, or to the holly Tinos and the craggy Kea. Or simply, just to find out how much wind Poseidon is about to blow again.

Weather & WindThe famously notorious local wind of the Aegean Sea, Meltemi, comes heavily from the north and reaches during high summer up to 4 to 5 Beaufort, sometimes though even 7 to 8, and stays there longer than the usual three days. Normally the wind during the period from June to September is very mild early in the morning and really heavy late in the afternoon. During off-season the area - except some unexpected sudden weather changes – has a poor and mild wind.

The Sporades and the Chalkidiki Peninsula

In the 1970s it was the high society, that discovered with their yachts the distant beaches of Skyros, Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos. In the meantime anybody can sort of jump off from the capital island Skiathos to the sea and enjoy the small rustic harbours and the life of Sporades and the peninsula Chalkidiki.

Like the bays of Skiathos itself, which are well touristic developed. Or Skyros with its picturesque capital harbour Linaria. Also Skopelos, that impresses with its green forests and the distant bays, and the neighbour island Alonissos, whose smaller old town Alonissos was fully destroyed due to an earthquake more than thirty years ago and in the meantime it has been fully reconstructed. And of course, the five small, uninhabited islands Peristera, Pelagonisi,

Weather & WindThe northern wind Meltemi is less heavy in Sporades and on Chalkidiki peninsula than it is in the southern Aegean Sea. That makes the area an easier sailing experience during summertime. Thus, all destinations can be reached easily due to the wind’s direction coming from west to east. Only in eastern Sporades you might feel like you are in Cyclades (see also Wind & Weather Cyclades).

Gioura, Piperi and Psathoura, where you can see the home of monk seals.

For those of you who spend two weeks on the sea, we recommend to sail a bit further to the north to the peninsula Chalkidiki, from where you will se three land fingers stretching out to the Greek, blue sea, namely Kassándra, Sithonía – and the best known: Ágio Óros, a synonym nowadays of the monastic republic Áthos on the mountain with the same name. In the semi-autonomous republic over 2000 monks live. Yet, only male crews with entry permission are aloud to visit here. Women are not allowed yet to visit the mountain Athos.

Mountain Áthos and the departure harbour of Skiathos are about forty nautical miles away from each other, yet the mountain’s shadows are long, so long that they almost reach the island of Skiathos. Skia – athos, in English, under the shadow of Athos.

14

Dodecanese

The Dodecanese is located at the eastern edge of the Aegean Sea and offers its visitors numerous trumps - starting with the direct flights to Rhodes and Kos. No matter where you land, you find yourself in the heart of life and can begin your trip from our Kiriacoulis bases.

Dodecanese – although it stands for “12 islands”, in reality there are more, 16 of which worth a visit. Kos for example with its modern marina, with the white, sandy beaches, its ancient mountain villages and the famous plane tree (Platane) of Hippocrates. Under this decrepit, aged tree, it is said that almost two and a half thousands of years ago the ancient Greek hatched his formulas.

You should also stop on Kalymnos, that is the island that owns its old wealthiness to sponges. On the island of Patmos and of course on the volcanic island, Nisyros, which - according to the Greek mythology - was part of Kos before Poseidon breaks it off in order

Weather & WindDuring spring and autumn the wind blows usually in a south-east direction with an average of 2 to 4 Beaufort (with the exception of course of minor weather slumps). During midsummer, the north wind Meltemi often emerges also in the Dodecanese – usually with 4 to 5 Beaufort, however it can sometimes become stronger and longer compared to the three usual days (see also Wind & Weather in Cyclades).

to kill a Titan. As a sailor you should also moor on the quiet and peaceful island of Tilos.

Yet anyone who wishes to come back from Tilos, they miss the best part: Symi, at the extreme end of the Dodecanese and no more than four nautical miles away from the Turkish coast.

Symi, with probably the most beautiful natural harbours in the entire Aegean and its small noble manor-houses, which in white, yellow and lilac colour combinations climp up the hill.

From here you may only take up the way back - and between myths, volcanoes and past wealth sail back to Kos or Rhodes.

16

Corfu, Lefkas and the Ionian Islands

The Ionian Sea is an area with mild winds – especially compared to the neighboring Meltemi areas in the Greek Aegean Sea. Here, between Corfu in the north and Zakynthos in the south, the wind is a reliable cruise partner, reconstructing slowly in the morning to a mild sail wind before it sleeps again in the evening. That means: no hard conditions for you; the ideal solution for families or for those who charter sail boats and have little skipper experience.

For that reason this area offers an alternative holiday. Seven different islands, varied and beautiful at the same time. The crescent-shaped Corfu with its traditional mountain villages and the coast, at some places undeveloped, at other places firmly under tourist control. Paxos, with its shallow bay Lakka, which is protected by two headlands. Lefkas, the pearl of the Ionian Islands, on which you will find the second Kiriacoulis base. Also, the bay of Fiskardo on Kefallonia attracts sometimes during high summer up

to 80 yachts, looking so good as a postcard. No less beautiful are the port villages of the two small islands Kalamos and Kastos. Not to forget the green Zakynthos, with its dream beaches, with its wild romantic landscape, the limestone reefs and the mysterious caverns, it is worth a stop.

Last but not least, the island of Ithaka, former homeland of Odysseus and his wife Penelope, you should also sail past. Almost everything of the pretty capital Vathy reminds of the Greek mythological figures – streets, places, cafés, bars. And any of you who wish after to experience a sailing challenge, you should definitely try the Devil’s Passage, the strait between Kefallonia and Ithaka. The so called jet effect of the area accelerates sometimes heavy winds.

Weather & WindDuring summertime you can rely on a wind coming from a north-west direction. It starts blowing everyday in the morning, it reaches in the afternoon 2 to 4 sometimes also 5 Beaufort and disappears again around 8 p.m. Early in the morning you might feel a slight breeze coming from the east or south-east. During spring and autumn, low pressure might at times visit the area or you can sense the hot south wind Sirocco. You should also be prepared for a couple of days of heavy wind.

Sicily and the Aeolian Islands

Wide beaches, silent temples and medieval towns, almond groves and pistachio orchards, pizza, pasta, and sun shining from early in the morning until late in the evening - that is Sicily, Italy’s southernmost island.

We offer you the possibility, to start the cruise in Sant’Agata di Militello, located in the north part of the island, or in Marsala, a small town in western Sicily. From Marsala you can at least reach very quickly Zingaro, a protected area in north-western Sicily, as well as the Caribbean-style seaside resort San Vito lo Capo. We also recommend the picturesque Golfo di Castellamare with its small harbours and the beautiful capital Castellamare del Golfo. Alternatively, we offer the trip from Marsala via the enchanting Egadi islands, to Favignana, Marettimo and Levanzo, where you will definitely feel that time has stayed still for centuries. And if you are not afraid to sail 40 nautical miles, you can also head to the Isola Ustica in the north of Palermo, an island which is popular for its Gods and its fish.

The cruise from Sant’ Agata di Militello in the north-eastern part offers other highlights – only a couple of miles further the mercurial Cefalù. And then, in the north - the famous Aeolian islands. Seven inhabited volcano islands, some of them with a small city harbour, others with only an anchorage or a small docking area.

Lipari is is the most visited and developed island, Alicudi is rather small and solitary. Salina is green and richly blooming because of its fresh water sources. Also on Stromboli, the volcano throws out in the sky repeatedly glowing lava fountains. Highly recommended: A hike up on the crater edge.

No matter which harbour you choose or which area you are heading to in Sicily, you will always find yourself surrounded by culture and nature in the waters around the biggest Mediterranean islands.

Weather & WindThe climate of Sicily is rather dry and warm compared to other areas in Europe. In the midsummer, the wind blows during the day at 3 to 4 Beaufort. In the north coast it comes mainly from north-west and in the south coast from south-east. It disappears again at night. Heavy winds and rain appear only during spring and autumn due to sudden weather changes. The desert wind Schirokko, a south wind that reaches gale storm blows there sometimes and it brings red desert sand from Africa and very high temperatures.

Sardinia

Rocks smoothly grounded by wind and water, crystal-clear water and Caribbean like beaches – Sardinia is a cruising route taken directly from a picture book. Most sailors fall mainly for the northern and the north-eastern part of the island, Costa Smeralda and the seven main islands of the Maddalena archipelago, where in no distance you can also find a Kiriacoulis base (Portisco).

Whoever is about to take from here a one-week cruise, he or she will definitely find more than a place to visit. After a first bath stop at the sandy beach bay Cala di Volpe, you can then head for example to Porto Cervo, the picturesque and mundane harbour, where the international Jetset meets. Or Cannigione, a lively small place with a yacht harbour in the middle of green environment. Next stop: the small fishing village Porto Palma on the island of Caprera. Then, from here you should head to the urban Marina next to La Maddalena, the capital of the archipelago with its Palazzi

from the 18th century, its narrow streets and its steep stairways.

There is also a wide variety of beaches and bays in the natural park of the Maddalena archipelago, almost tailor made to moor and take a swim. Like Stagno Torto (in the north of La Maddalena), the Cala Santa Maria on the island with the same name, and above all: the Cala Coticcio at the eastern side of Caprera, one of the most beautiful bays of the entire area.

Yet, in spite of all the beautiful bays you enjoy as you sail across, you definitely have to invest some time and visit the picturesque Bonifacio in the south of Corsica, whose citadels and old city throne themselves on chalk cliffs above the fjord. Around there you can easily spend days, especially at the nearby Iles Lavezzi with its round washed granite blocks and the beautiful sandy beaches.

Weather & WindThe common in summer time mild north west winds can reach up to 5 or 6 Beaufort in the streets of Bonifacio (between the north of Sardinia and the south end of Corsica), the strait is a windy region with nozzle effect. The temperatures in summer time usually reach up to about 40 degrees. The off-season is predominantly mild and quiet, sometimes also inconstant – you have to count to rainfalls and strong wind as well.

The Tuscan Islands

In ancient times Elba was the vacation island of the Romans, today it is the favourite destination of each sail boat, which sails away from the Marina di Scarlino (Puntone) – this is due to many reasons: Elba is multifaceted, and offers equally typical italian urban harbours, modern marinas and protected bays. From here you also have the chance to visit Corsica and the island of Capraia, but not before you do other essential things.

First of all, the largest of the Tuscan islands offers numerous destinations for a cruise. Portoferraio, for example, the historic capital (especially worth seeing: the castle Forte Stella from the 16th century and the Palazzo dei Mulini, Napoleon’s city residence during his exile in 1814). Marciana Marina, the enchanting small harbour village on the north-western side of Elba. Also, the protected natural harbour of Porto Azzurro must be part of every cruise.

After that, you can visit the northern coast of Corsica – for example the busy and lively

Bastia or Macinaggio. On the way there the route is interrupted by the island Capraia. It is the third largest island of the Tuscan archipelago, its capital and its harbour are located on the east side of the former prison island. Today Capraia is under conservation; just as the six more Tuscan islands, it belongs also to the National Park of the Tuscan archipelago, the largest marine protected area in whole Europe. It is also the homeland of different dolphin types, of moon fish, of sperm whales, furrow whale and even of the rare Mediterranean monk seals.

Weather & WindDuring summer the wind reaches the mainland coast mainly from west to east, whereas the islands from south east. At night there is usually a light south east wind. There is hardly ever a heavy wind, you should better be prepared to experience rather no wind periods. The stormy Libbeccio coming from a south west direction blows only when there is a low pressure between the Gulf of Genoa which heads to the north.

Kalkara Marina

The first person who took that really long trip to Malta, specifically to Gozo, was Ulysses. But we can warn you from the start that he did not have a good time. Under the spell cast by the Nymph Calypso, the shipwrecked Ulysses had to angrily wait there until she decided to let the homesick man go. Although imprisoned, Ulysses could enjoy the golden sand and turquoise water of Ramla Bay, the most beautiful view offered by Malta’s sister island, Gozo.

Unlike Ulysses, we will take the normal route, and visit Malta first, the island where one of our bases is located. Malta is located 50 nautical miles south of Sicily and 160 nautical miles east of Tunisia, a veritable link between Europe and Africa. You can reach the island in two-and-a-half hours by plane. And once you get there, you will have at your disposal everything you need for a sailing cruise: warm weather from April to October and a beautiful

rocky coastline with lost of anchorage spots, beaches with pristine sand and lively harbour towns.

You start the cruise from Kalkara Marina in Kalkara, not far from Malta´s capital city, Valletta. From there, sailors are likely to visit next the picturesque bay St. Pauls, Golden Bay and Anchor Bay (here is the place where some of the scenes of Popeye were filmed).

The fishing village of Marsaxlokk, in the south-eastern part of Malta, offers a spectacle of Maltese tradition.

And then where to? You cannot miss a sail to Gozo. We can only give you that advice: Gozo is just amazing. Only if Ulysses had a different opinion...

Weather & WindDuring the summer months the weather is hot and weak north-western winds are predominant. The high temperatures bring about some intense thermal winds, usually in the late afternoon and evening. During the off-peak season, the weather is rather mild. Strong eastern winds bring some swell to the harbours.

Cote d’Azur

According to a myth, there used to be a coast, which was a lot more beautiful than any other one. According to legends, that place is a paradise of abrupt rocks and golden sandy bays, surrounded by azure-blue water.

Right in the middle of this magic we have our base, to be more specific: in Bormes Les Mimosas in the French Cote d’Azur, which is only one sailing route away from St. Tropez. Women here usually have lost their bikini bra. And the place allows trends to develop and spread all around the world. Yet St. Tropez is only a tiny, beautiful little village with just 6.000 inhabitants.

Anyhow, you have to see it for at least one time, as well as all the other fine, exclusive places on each coast, like Nice, Cannes and Antibes. Antibes was also Pablo Picasso´s favourite place, he loved his Antibes so much, this city with its massive castle and the old

cathedrals; its twisted old city and the blue sea at the back. He just soaked in its colours and painted with them.

Beyond Nice there is only one destination to choose, Monaco, the small principality in Mediterranean.

In “La Condamine”, the port of Monaco, you can moor your yacht only a couple of meters away from the racetrack of Monte Carlo, under the shadow of the casino, which thrones itself in a lump of rocks.

Then you take the south-western direction, towards the departure harbour. Even if you only have a little time to see the magical Iles d´Hyeres, that is the three “golden islands”, that swim before Cote d´Azur. And on which you will find magical ports and seductive anchorages.

Weather & WindDuring the summer months the wind is affected mostly by the thermal streams. The strong sun shinning causes a significant rise of the air mass over the mainland during the day. A sea wind blows, which in the afternoon can reach up to 3 to 4 Beaufort, coming from a south-eastern or an eastern direction. The wind disappears at night. The north-western wind, Mistral, present mostly during the off-season, may sometimes blow really strong.

Istrian Coast

Istria, that is mainly the places by the coast. Small pearls with picturesque old palaces, with shining marble squares and bumpy alleyways. Porec, Vsar, Rovinj, Pula - places like those make Istria and the Bay of Kvarner a magical area. In addition: You can reach Istrien very easily, from South Germany, Austria and North Italy it is only a couple of hours away from the peninsula of North Croatia.

There we have our base, more specifically at the Marina Veruda next to Pula. If you rent a sail boat here, you will have to decide also: to follow a direction towards the north-western coast, sailing passed the small island Fazana towards Rovinj, Porec, Novigrad and Umgag (the whole coast part is by the way full of magical bays and small harbour towns). There, we also recommend: The blue-green Limski canal, which is twelve kilometers long and reaches the inner part of the area or the Brijuni islands, the summer residence of the the former Yugoslavian President Tito.

Or, from Pula you can follow the other route and sail among the rugged istrian southern edge heading to the north-eastern part - to the island of Cres with its numerous bays (for sure you have to visit: Valun, a picturesque small place). Or, towards the biggest island in Adriatic, Krk, and head to the place of the same name or towards Punat, a bay that is connected to the sea by only one small canal.

No matter which route you follow from Pula - there will always be a sense of mix, which makes your cruise ideal - a mix of historical cities, small fish towns and isolated bays to moor your yacht.

Weather & WindUsually in the summer the area is controlled by a north-western wind, the Maistral. It blows usually before noon, reaching 3 to 4 Beaufort in the afternoon, and it disappears again in the evening. On warm days with a calm wind you should also count on a sea breeze in the evening. The notorious Bora, a north-eastern wind, may bring along a wild southern wind, the Jugo.

Dalmatian Coast

Dalmatia offers a coast around 400 kilometers long and some hundreds of islands, provided you count every towered rock in the sea. Pag and Dugi are the most important at the north, whereas Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Lastovo and Mljet the ones at the south. In the middle lie about 147 Kornati islands, like sleeping dinosaurs. The coast consists of small towns and therefore resembles an open museum. Trogir, for example, Split and Dubrovnik.

Dalmatia is a picturesque area to sail - we have 5 bases there altogether (Zadar, Biograd, Trogir, Split, Krvavica, whether in the south or in the north). From all these places, charter sailors can discover the beauty of the coasts and the islands, for example Trogir and Split, whose tricked-out old cities really seduce. You can head to Hvar and Korcula (a must see: the birthplace of Marco Polo, who was born here in 1254), islands that look like oversized child made brick settlements with squares made out of the purest marble. equipped with everything and with the help of the summer wind Maestral, rush through the world of islands towards the southern part - and get to know also Dubrovnik, the pearl of Adria, which has been announced by UNESCO as a world´s cultural heritage.

So, what did the biggest dramatist of England, George Bernard Shaw, write in the beginning of the previous century in his travel diary? “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik” Those who sail along the dalmatian coast will agree for sure - with one restriction. This statement is not only about Dubrovnik true - but for the whole Dalmatia.

Weather & WindDuring the summer months the winds blow usually in the whole of Adria with an average power of 2-3 Beaufort only - caused mainly from the local thermic streams. Rarely some powerful winds emerge, like for example Bora from the north-east or Yugo from the south.

32

Göcek

Kiriacoulis office, which is located in Göcek can be used as the harbour from where you can sail away and enjoy relaxing cruises, not only during the off-season, but also at the period where the Meltemi wind blows in the area. Also in the high season, the Turkish south coast provides protection against the Meltemi, which is here less stronger than it is in the west coast of Turkey. Everyone who sticks with this sea, it is because they want to swim and enjoy the sun, or maybe because they want to visit the ancient sites and moor for sure in one of the small, dreamy bays. And in evenings to enjoy the Turkish cousin offered by most of the local restaurants.

Between Marmaris and Finike, located almost 100 nautical miles away, you will see more bays and small harbours, if you decide to take a two week cruise. However, some are included to the standard cruise plan, like the anchor harbour Ekincik Limani, from which you can take a trip and see the Dalyan delta and the Lycian rock tombs in Caunos. The beautiful, mountainous scenery of Göcek, which has now become very popular among the sailors. And the Gulf of Fethiye, which is only 30 nautical miles wide, with its 30 round islands and more than 100 anchorages, and of course Fethiye itself.

At some point, at the back of your sail boat you will suddenly see the picturesque Ölü Deniz appearing - a rugged rock scenery surrounded by turquoise water and a white, sandy headland. The entrance in the salt-water lake at the back is unfortunately no longer permitted to yachts. For that reason you should definitely visit Kalkan safe harbour,

and the anchorages that lie among the large bay of Kas, which is overgrown with Macchia and olive trees. Here you will find magical places to cast your anchor, sometimes under the shadow of ancient columns, whereas everywhere there is a restaurant.

Weather & WindThe summer wind Meltemi, that controls the area at the west of Marmaris, blows here very mildly (from a west or a north-west direction), mainly towards the east side. Around noon though, it is very possible to feel in that area some thermal winds. During off-season, you may experience some bad weather conditions due to the north-west wind, Lodos.

Bodrum

If you decide to start your cruise from the Kiriacoulis base in the heart of Bodrum, you will be among the first to enter this rough coast of the peninsula Bodrum, which offers numerous bays and whose mountain cliffs fall steeply into the sea. Though, soon before that you will step into Bodrum, this town with its white cubic small houses and its Johanniterburg castle, the symbol of Bodrum.

This pensinsula would also be the ideal place to head to different destinations, like towards the north to the gulf of Mandalya, it is more likely though for sailors not to take that route or even visit the Greek island Kos, but rather head to Gökova Körfezi and the peninsula Resadiye, which emerges at the south part of the area. And this is due to the fact that this particular, almost unpopulated, narrow space, that stretches to the sea, is one of the most beautiful sceneries of the whole Aegean sea.

On these particular protected bays pine trees, incense trees, cypresses and juniper berries grow up to just before the sea. Particularly beautiful is the Amazon Fjord and the Kargibük Limani, the ideal, protected hiding place.

We recommend though you shouldn´t spend that much time on these magical bays, since there is Knidos, on the west corner, waiting for

Not to be missed is also the peninsula Resadiye, with Datca, where you can still sense a bit of the charm offered by an oriental fish town. As well as bays like Keci Bükü and Dirsek Bükü. By the way: Very close to each of these isolated bays you will find at least one restaurant, most of which offer also a place to moor your sail boat and enjoy typical, traditional good food.

Weather & WindDuring summer the northern wind Meltemi blows usually at noon and sleeps again in the evening. In May and in June the wind blows with a power of 3 to 4 Beaufort, whereas in July and August reaches its maximum. At that period the sky might at times become blue and the wind might reach up 6 to 7 Beaufort. The Meltemi wind weakens again in September and October. Between Kos and Bodrum the wind comes from a northern direction, whereas on the south side comes mainly from a western direction.

St. Martin

The Windward and Leeward islands form the eastern border of the Caribbean Sea. Stretching from Grenada to Martinique, the Windwards got their name because British ships sailing from other colonies frequently had to beat the weather to reach them. The northern islands of the archipelago are more to leeward, so the British called them the Leeward Islands. They begin in Dominica, just above Martinique, and arc gently northwest for a bit under 150 miles to include Guadeloupe, Antigua, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Barts, Anguilla, and many others. They end near St. Martin 150 miles east of Puerto Rico. These waters are an ideal location for staging a St. Martin sailing vacation to a variety of destinations throughout the Leeward chain.

St. Martin rivals the British Virgin Islands as the most popular yacht charter destination in the Caribbean with good reason. The sailing conditions make this a destination for reasonably experienced sailors and there is with a good mix of island hopping and exciting blue water cruising that should keep everyone happy.

Weather & WindThe trade winds typically blow from the northeast to east November through March and east to southeast April through October, ranging from 10 to 25 knots. They are the power behind the north equatorial current, which usually isn’t a factor except where it intensifies around the ends of some islands. Tidal currents are weak due to the slight tidal range of about 1.5 feet. The Leeward Islands have one of the most pleasant climates in the entire Caribbean, with average year-round temperatures holding at about 26°C.

Booking Procedure When you have chosen the yacht you require, contact your agent by telephone, facsimile, e-mail or letter. As soon as he receives your request will inform you on the spot about the availability and the exact cost. Our agents network has a direct access to our yacht booking plan 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, thanks to our advanced software which runs within the Internet. If you are not sure yet or you are afraid of loosing a particular yacht, request an option from your agent. The yacht will then be kept for you, usually for a period of one week. If we have not heard from your agent after this period, we will assume you no longer require the vessel and your option will be canceled. If you wish to confirm your charter, your agent will send you the charter contracts for signature. The contracts have to be returned to us with the exception of your copy, together with the requested down payment, the reservation will then be considered final. The balance payment for your charter is to be paid 4 weeks before your departure. Our bankers are:

• EUROBANK 19, Kallirrois Str., 117 43 Athens, Greece

• PIRAEUS BANK 3, Korai Str., 105 64 Athens, Greece

Sailing QualificationsPlease note that our yachts are chartered bareboat, under the condition that at least two members of the crew have a sailing certificate (one sailing certificate is compulsory for sailing in Greece, Turkey, Italy and in Croatia, where a VHF operator licence is also required), or at least sufficient qualifications, to be determined by us, through a resume of your sailing experience, that we will kindly ask you to complete.Of course the love for the sea and sailing is what is required for a skippered or crewed charter.

Security DepositWith the exception of crewed charters, on bareboat and skippered charters, at the time of embarkation we request you to pay a refundable security deposit, which varies according to the area and the size of the yacht. This can be paid only by credit card. Payment by credit card is only accepted for the security deposit but not for balance payments or for the payment of options rented. The security deposit is to cover in the unforeseen event, any possibility of any minor damages, which are not covered by the insurance of the yacht. Upon the safe return of the yacht it will be returned in full to you.Alternatively, we offer you the option to pay a non-refundable security deposit, also payable only by credit card.

The concept of yacht management millionaires or big investors are not the only proud owners of a private yacht; yacht ownership can be an exhilarating and simultaneously rewarding investment. If you own a yacht, under KIRIACOULIS management, you can sail your yacht without worrying about the costs for the insurance, marina, spare parts and maintenance. You can leave all costs relating to your yacht and the corresponding troubles to us, while the only thing left for you to worry about is to schedule the period and the area of your own holidays. To buy a yacht and keep it private is too expensive and it costs much more to maintain and keep the yacht in good condition. Additionally, the owner will sail it only within certain navigation limits. When you buy it through a KIRIACOULIS management plan, you will save all the expenses and you will have the opportunity to sail from 24 departure bases within Mediterranean and Caribbean. Finally, yet importantly, you will have an income, therefore why don’t you leave it to the professionals, who guarantee that your yacht becomes more than just a cost covering enterprise? We may offer you different types of yacht management programmes, or to design one, tailor made for your personal needs. In the most popular programme, for minimizing the funds necessary for your purchase, we require you only a down payment that starts from the 35% of the value of your yacht. For further information please ask your agent for our detailed conditions.
