Pews for the chapel As a temporary convenience chairs were ordered for our chapel. They are nice but not ideal. The office has contacted the artisan who crafted our other items that are already in the chapel, i.e.: the altar, credence table, presider’s chair, etc. He will be crafting pews especially for our chapel. They will include kneelers and holders for our missalettes. The cost, per pew, is $2300.00. The quality of the artisan’s work can clearly be seen in the existing items we have in the chapel. We will be placing plaques on these with “In Memory of:” or “Donated by:”. If you would like to donate the money for one or more of the pews contact the office and we will help you.

Prayer Prayer is how we primarily listen to the Lord’s Voice. O en mes we know we should pray, but don’t know how or where to start. If you don’t know how to pray, don’t worry. The Lord longs to be with you in prayer and will help you. He has already helped us through His Church by showing us the primary ingredients to a life of prayer. The first is liturgical prayer. This is the public prayer of the Church, the

greatest expression of which is Holy Mass. All of the Sacraments, like Confession, are liturgical prayer, as well as the Liturgy of the Hours, some mes called the “Divine Office” and Eucharis c Adora on. We also need to develop habits of personal prayer, especially medita on and contempla on. Prayer which honors our Blessed Lady is indispensable for finding your voca on. The Church and the saints for centuries have made powerful use of the Rosary, knowing that Mary, the perfect example of following ones voca on, will lead us to find her Son’s will if we only ask. A uning ourselves to the Voice of the Lord also means becoming aware of the obstacles to hearing His Voice. Sin and noise are the two major obstacles which get in the way of hearing His Voice.

Financial Update on the Building Debt

Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

GOD'S LAWS God's laws are not intended to burden or torment us. Instead they are guideposts that point us in the direc on of good liv-ing. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one another. We should not follow God's laws out of fear of what might happen if we don't, but rather view them as a founda on for building rela onships and trust with one another and with God. The Shema prayer of Orthodox Jews is based on the reading from Deuteronomy today, "Hear, O Israel." Every morning peo-ple recite the prayer as a profession of their love for God and pledge their obedience to God throughout the day. They pass on their love of God to their children, from one genera on to the next. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped out with the photography sessions. You all did a great job!!! There were some cancella ons and many who had to reschedule their appointments so we are not exactly sure how many were photographed for our new directory but we know it was a much be er turnout than our previous directory. A special thanks to Irene Delgado who is working to get the layout for our directory done. Thanks everyone!! We are working on the roster of names and phone numbers that will be included in the back of the new directory. The ones who were photographed will be automa cally included. We have others who were unable to be photographed who will also be included. (We may be able to include a photograph if you have one that does not carry a copyright. Call the office for informa on on this if you were not photographed.) We try to keep our parish list as up to date as we possibly can. If you have moved or changed your phone number recently, please call the office so that we have your correct informa on for the directory.

The Community Food Pantry that operates out of our new Pastoral Center has had very good success in helping those in need. Each Thursday the Pantry is helping numerous families. Due to the generosity of parishioners of Sts. Peter and Paul the pantry has been a success, but is constantly in need of dona ons. If you have the means to donate items for this valuable ministry there will be a basket in the back of church on the weekends. Dona ons will also be taken at the church office. Thank you for your generosity to this beneficial ministry for our community.

Prayer for the families of the sick Lord, You bless us with the gi of the family. We give you thanks for the love, strength and comfort that families give to the sick. Turn your eyes towards them and protect them every day. Make this painful moment serve to unite them, so that their members care more about each other and are able to manifest more openly their mutual love and their faith in You. Lord, accompany them on their way and bless them with your grace so that they feel your closeness and your help while they take care of their loved ones who are suffering. Amen.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Just two years ago, we engaged in one of the core ac vi es of our democra c system: a presiden al elec on. Actually, the ins tu on of elec on can be traced to tradi ons in the Church, and although bishops are no longer chosen in this way, abbots and abbesses (heads of monas c communi es) have almost always been elected by full vo ng members of their communi es. The life me appointment begins when the monks or nuns are gathered in "chapter" at the death or resigna on of the abbot, and fortunately for all involved, campaigning is not allowed! The members of the community discern, with prayer to the Holy Spirit, who among them is the best suited for leadership. Once chosen, the new leader requests the blessing of the local bishop, who usually presides at a ceremony of consecra on or inves ture. The ballots are always secret, and a simple majority must be achieved. In our American system the Electoral College is the determining voice in the presiden al elec on, not the popular elec on on a November Tuesday, just as the monas c chapter is the electorate. Today, most religious orders elect general superiors in "chapter" by delegates of the professed members, and usually for a term of six years. A few, like the Jesuits, elect for life. At least we don't have that weight on our shoulders when we choose a president. Four years at a me will do! --Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

--Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright (c) J. Dona ons for the Sisters in Prayertown Every year, Lisa gathers things to help with the sisters holiday baking needs. Here is her email for this year: It is that me of the year again where we collect baking goods for the dear sisters at Prayertown. Please let me know if you are willing to donate this year. In addi on to baking supplies, they can always use coffee, the regular ground style. Also another need that they have is that they have three new ladies joining their community and are needing the special shirts that they wear. The shirts are $30 each and they are needing several shirts per lady. If you would rather give a monetary dona on towards a shirt that would be great also! Just let me know. I will deliver the goods out to Prayertown in November. If you are interested in going with me just let me know. If you would like to write a check out to the DLJC they will get you a receipt as the dona on is tax deduc ble.
