In Utopia, there are many things that
we need. Not just to survive, but to live in harmony with everyone and everything.
First of all, basic requirements like food, water, air and shelter are essential for life
in ‘Utopia.’
Food is not produced and
distributed equally among countries. For countries like
Australia and America, we easily
produce enough food to last for a
long time, and feed our populations.
But for countries like Afghanistan and Africa,
they do not have enough to feed the
whole country. Starvation and
malnutrition are big problems. But, if every
person in the more wealthy countries
sacrificed one meal a day, there would be enough to feed the
whole world!
As the world’s population is
increasing very quickly, more food is needed. To feed the world for the next 5 years, we will need as much food as we have used in the last
500 years!
Water and sanitation is just as important. It takes 3 weeks to starve, but it only takes 3 days to
dehydrate. People in third world countries
are dying from disease and other
complications resulting from lack of reliable, clean water
supplies.
Shelter is also very important. In
extreme conditions, we could die from exposure after 3
hours without shelter. These are just some of the
requirements that are absolutely essential as we
strive for ‘Utopia.’
To achieve ‘Utopia’ we need loyalty and order between people and countries. Without
people understanding and respecting each
other’s spirituality and beliefs, we cannot live
safely in Utopia. A lot of the conflicts that have happened in the world so far have been the
result of differences in spiritual or religious
beliefs
Obeying laws is extremely important. If everybody just did what they wanted
without a set of laws, this world would be chaos! A good way that we can keep
safe is to respect and follow the laws.
Every day, many people put themselves and others in danger by
breaking the law. This can be due to peer
pressure, alcohol and drugs. But, in poor
countries, it can be just to survive their
circumstances. We need to ensure equal rights and responsibilities, no
matter what the economic background, to maintain harmony.
International Relations between countries are very important. If we do
not have good communication and
international relations with other countries, conflict
may occur.
Take North and South Korea for example. After the Second World War, North and South Korea were divided and they could not agree on a form of government.
South Korea adopted a democratic government from the USA and North Korea a communist one from Russia. North Korea declared war on South
Korea.
While both countries suffered because the
war, good international relations with, and
support from, the allied countries ensured that South Korea recovered
well. Unfortunately, North Korea suffered
badly, both economically and
politically.
This shows us that international relations could help everybody – if the two countries could’ve agreed on a government, none of these things would have happened. It
also shows that war doesn’t help anyone.
Cultural Identity may not be an aspect we need to stay alive,
but it is a very important to help
increase understanding and
tolerance of others.
Many countries have strong cultural
identities – not just their languages and traditions, but their customs and beliefs also. It is important to try to understand
other cultures in order to avoid
misunderstandings and promote
harmony.
If Cultural Identity is kept, and citizens in counties can respect
other countries traditions and the
need to protect and maintain them, this will be a giant leap forward to Unity.
Lastly, is Mindfulness. This basically covers
everything. To stay safe and live happily
together, people need to be mindful of
others.
A key aspect of Utopia would be our
willingness to help each other. To help
countries like Afghanistan and Korea, who are
battling in war, to resolve their
differences and support them in their
recovery.
To help countries like Africa that are poor and battling famine, to get on their feet by donating money
and resources to help them become self-sufficient. We
can help change the lives of these people in so many different
ways.
