TITLE: DIGITALLY SAFE & SOUND

SUMMARY OF LESSON IDEA: The main aim of this activity is to make students think about the negative consequences that certain online behaviour may have on their lives and consider some of the factors that may lead teenagers behave that way and how to address them.Students will create a visual poster that will be published and displayed on the side-bar of their class blog to remind them of how to stay safe and behave properly online.

SHORT CLASS PROFILE: This activity is aimed at 4th ESO, 15-16 year olds. Their English level is B1/B2 although there are a few whose English level is just above A2.

TIMETABLE FIT:This activity will take up two class sessions.

DATE OF SCHEDULED LESSON :This kind of activity should be scheduled during the first term of the school year of 4th ESO.

MAIN LANGUAGE OUTCOMES (SKILLS):Listening; listen to understand the message of the videos shown.

Use of English: use modals to give advice: should, ought to, should have + past participle.

Speaking: agreeing and disagreeing.

Writing: create a decalogue that will help them to stay safe and behave properly online.

SUBSIDIARY OUTCOMES:Critical thinking

Peer collaboration

ICT RELATED AIMS:Use a photograph editing tool to add text bubbles.

Publish the poster picture to their class blog.

EXAMPLE OF FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY.

After discussing about digital safety and privacy students organize their ideas into bubbles and make a poster that looks very similar to the one below. In the example shown, students considered online and class behaviour. The activity I suggest is not the same but the final product would look very much like that.Then, we publish the picture and display it on the side-bar of our class blog as a reminder of the agreed rules.
