Digital transformation in healthcare is reaching its tipping point. From the supporting infrastructure to medical devices, health data ecosystems, mobile health apps or wearable devices, the speed of development is accelerating year-by-year. Stakeholders including policymakers, health professionals, developers, investors as well as industry have high expectations about the benefits and saving digital health can deliver. Digital health can provide new insights to diseases, uncover new therapeutic effects, break down barriers to information or even access to care. The value of digital health seems so obvious, or is it? While the methods of demonstrating the value of traditional health technologies, such as pharmaceuticals are well established, the great variety and constant change of digital health technologies and the multitude of ways digital interventions impact health, patient experience or system efficiency pose challenges for health economists or decision-makers when assessing their value. This symposium will give insights into the latest developments and dilemmas in the health economic evaluation of digital health interventions. Our distinguished keynote speaker is Dr. Katarzyna Kolasa, PhD who is co-charing the Global Special Interest Group for Digital Health at ISPOR2. The Department of Health Economics, Corvinus University of Budapest will present research projects on digital health supported by the following grants3.
